Forgive the name change, but I reckon this post makes me fairly recognisable.

Anyway, last year I posted my dilemma as to whether to continue dyeing my hair or let nature take over and see what was really lurking under there

I bit the bullet after yet another hair dye ending up brassier than I had hoped and not lasting at all, and decided to grow it out.

Eight months on (I do have short hair) it's all gone, and I am almost completely silver, with a few smattering of darker.

At just 47 I appreciate this is not the societal norm, and in some people's eyes has aged me. One friend pretty much commiserated with me and my hairdresser is horrified.

But in the past month I have been for two job interviews, been offered both jobs, and been invited out in a date (long story, I am happily married and he mistakenly thought I was single).

Several people have told me it looks fab, a neighbour came up to me to say I had inspired her to go for it.

My face still looks fairly youthful, I think, but at first glance people might think I am much older. Yet I still got the job offers and the date! More attention that I have had in years! Grin

So if you are swithering, I would heartily recommend it.

Great Suzanne :)

Can I join you? I'm 48, approx 75% silver and nearly 2 months since I last coloured my hair. Having days now where I can't imagine myself with silver hair, but also can't bear to colour it only to have roots 2 weeks later, so truly stuck in the middle! Anyone got any experience about what you say to people you haven't seen for sometime, or don't you say anything?!

IAmNotDarling · 25/09/2015 20:05

I'm up front. I saw someone today who I could see peering at my grey whilst we were catching up at a work event, after 6 years. I just winked and pointed at my head and said 'I'm embracing my experience' to which he said 'looks funky' and pointed at his bald spot. We're both early thirties. Grin

doctorboo · 16/10/2015 09:35

IAm that's brilliant! Grin

I'm on week 17 week. Some days I don't think it's very noticeable and others I think it's glaringly obvious, but I'm still loving it.
I'm seeing my MIL and SILs tomorrow, I'm sure something will be mentioned!

My MIL, the SILs and my own mother are all horrified. Today my MIL mentioned it was a shame I don't see more of one particular SIL as she'd be able to sort my hair out Hmm Shock.

To give a subtle two fingers up I picked up this colour mask and will use it tonight and in the morning.

I stopped dyeing my hair dark brown about three years ago and had no idea what would be underneath. I use the Touch of Silver shampoo and conditioner, but have now discovered L'Oreal Silver Gloss Protect. The first photo is me last year aged 60 and the second one is this year aged 61.

Looking good! How is everyone else doing? I am now totally dye free and growing out the pixie I had chopped in in Feb. Am still utterly delighted (even with in-betweeny style hair).

The colour is not as light as I had expected hoped but I am enjoying emphasising the whitest bit at the front. No regrets and can thoroughly recommend the freedom from the dye!

Chop your hair's looking good longer. It looked great in a pixie as well.

doctorboo · 10/11/2015 11:00

Itsalldrama your colour is lovely, just think how it'll look in a few more months!

I had a wibble, but didn't pick up the 8 wash (in brown) at the weekend so that's a victory!

Thanks doctor boo :) yours is coming on nicely too :) I think about 3 to 4 month is difficult but getting easier now I think !! Glad you didn't give in :)

suzannecaravaggio · 13/11/2015 17:16

I'm still in, no going back now...although it's taking foreverConfused
4 months since I last coloured, I'm sure 4 months growth should be more than that!

You look fantastic Reg!
my natural colour is still pretty dark...dont know how long it'll take before I reach pure platinum

doctorboo · 15/11/2015 16:30

I went to get a hair cut today so I look smart at an upcoming evening work event that DH has been invited to.
Showed the stylist the pics of what I was after (they sais yes, yes and cut my hair how they wanted anyway) and they asked me if I wanted them to colour my hair. I said no thanks and explained I'm growing the dye out and the response was am i going to dye is asap once the old colour's out... because it'll be "so grey ". sigh

suzannecaravaggio · 15/11/2015 16:49

well they would say that wouldn't they...when hair dressers see natural/un dyed hair they just see dwindling profitsWink

(not to dis hairdressers mind you, I really like mine she does great haircuts:) )

Itsalldramarama · 05/01/2016 11:32

Anyone still hanging in there ?? 7 months and I couldn't cope with the yucky orange dye !! Haven't coloured though!!!' Chopped it all off!!!

doctorboo · 05/01/2016 14:14

Itsall ooh, pic to show off your new do? Is all the dye gone??

I used a reddish 8 wash mid Nov and instantly regretted it! Then I wacked a pack of natural blonde on 20th Dec (regretted that too a bit - although the colour was nice.)
Had I it all chopped off Dec 21st and am hoping to be dye free by Summer! The colour's already washing out so my greys/white is already showing.

suzannecaravaggio · 06/01/2016 17:15

yes I'm still in the game :o
my dyed lengths were previously bleached pale blond and are still a reasonably ash toned dark blond so the contrast isnt too bad and I'm planning to just grow out the dye without the need for cropping

Tate15 · 06/01/2016 17:47

I am fed up of dyeing my hair.

I have to wear it up for work and my appearance is important to my job.

My roots are not completely white/silver but have a mix of dark hair that appears to have lost any warm pigment if that makes sense!

I recently went from darkish brown to a hideous reddish colour that looks very artificial but other people have said they like it.

When I'm not working, I can wear a hat but at work I just don't think I could have a massive stripe of growing out roots.

Reg ^^ up thread has beautiful hair. That would be what I was aiming for eventually!

I'm almost 50.

Tate15 · 06/01/2016 17:52

I forgot to say, my hair is longish and I have a fringe.
