Is this dressy enough for a wedding?

Love this dress but not sure if it's dressy enough. Was thinking navy accessories and nude shoes?

Lol see I think bright pink shoes would look horrendous tbh.

I'm going to go against the grain and say I like the second one better. But definitely wear whatever you feel comfortable in or you won't enjoy yourself.

BeautifulBatman · 06/07/2015 12:43

Another fascinator hater here. How about a really fancy hair slide instead? Ideas here

Roseybee10 · 06/07/2015 13:09

Lol this is actually making me giggle. Fascinators seem to really offend some people given all the adamant suggestions of alternatives. Sorry but I love fascinators and I'll be wearing one but thanks for all the positive comments on the dress. Going to phone and order it just now :-)

TrobadoraBeatrice · 06/07/2015 13:48

I much prefer the second, but then it's much more my kind of dress. I'm not going to be wearing either, so you should go with the one you like best and feel most comfortable in!

ShirleySmears · 06/07/2015 13:51

I'm afraid nude shoes and fascinators for weddings were over a long time ago and say a lot about the guest's background. A tight dress, nude shoes and a fascinator is a bit tacky IMVHO. The first dress is lovely. Coloured shoes and lovely clean, unadorned hair would be much classier.

If you must go with the nude shoes, the second dress is better.

FraggleHair · 06/07/2015 13:57

I'm not a fan of fascinators but I really hope you wear the biggest, flashiest one you can find OP.

Remarks like 'say a lot about the guest's background' drive me potty.

AmberNectarine · 06/07/2015 14:01

I like the first dress, but OP, you have no worries where your figure is concerned. My DH's opinion is also the shorter and tighter, the better.

Am PMSL at 'don't fascinate', but seriously, wear what you feel comfortable it.

GoodToesBadToes · 06/07/2015 14:03

Fascinators + nude shoes just say I don't go places very often, but when I do I try and look like Kate Middleton.
Which is fine. But we're offering an alternative Wink

Roseybee10 · 06/07/2015 14:18

Actually crying with laughter now.

I don't go places often so that's fine if that's what it looks like. I don't like colour clashes and I can't pull them off so I wouldn't wear bright shoes and there is no bright pink in the dress so I don't see how bright pink shoes would go tbh.

Not sure how wearing nude shoes says ' a lot about my background' either. Tbh that's quite catty. I knew people were judgemental at times over fashion but didn't realise now even nude shoes are classed as the society dregs.

I suppose I'd better be careful. I'm from the sticks up here in Scotland and this is a London wedding. They may well not let me into London at all with a fascinator and nude shoes in my luggage!!! Shock

FraggleHair · 06/07/2015 14:22

The locals will be armed with flaming torches and pitch forks ready to catch sight of your nude shoes and fascinator.

They may even dust down a cell in the Tower of London for such a crime. Wink

Roseybee10 · 06/07/2015 14:23

Mortified. I wore nude shoes to the pub on Friday night! No wonder the place emptied within 5 minutes.

OP posts:
GoodToesBadToes · 06/07/2015 14:43

Isn't there a splash of fuchsia in the first dress?

GoodToesBadToes · 06/07/2015 14:44

Otherwise cobalt blue would be fab. But I'll stop now because I know you are in love with the nudey-ness.

GoodToesBadToes · 06/07/2015 14:44

PS I am also giggling

Roseybee10 · 06/07/2015 14:47

I think it's red from memory. May look fuschia in pics depending on the brightness on a phone though.

I'm a play it safe girl and I'm skint lol. I only buy shoes I can wear with loads of outfits, hence the nude.

OP posts:
TheRealMaryMillington · 06/07/2015 16:38

actually lolled at GoodToes and Kate Middleton

I too thought there was pink in the dress, hence the pink shoe idea.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/07/2015 18:08

Pmsl at, 'I don't fascinate.'

I have never worn one, but am seriously considering one for a wedding this summer, because I have short hair and am wearing a skirt rather than a dress, and it seems to be a way of looking as if I am at an event, and not just at work.

Wear what you want, OP - fascinate all you like! :)

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 06/07/2015 18:15

I bough some lovely bright blue sandals in Primark for a tenner, they would go great with that dress Smile

Roseybee10 · 09/07/2015 16:52

Dress arrived and I love it. Think I may need shoes with a pop of colour though so thinking red, blue or green. Gutted as I just chucked a pair of green ones.

OP posts:
Hubb · 09/07/2015 20:27

Weird comments here about the fascinator etc....and "says a lot about a guest's background" Shock!?

I bought some lovely bright blue peep toes from matalan recently, and there is a nice lot of reasonably priced heeled sandals in new look. I think you will look fab and I'm quite jealous that I don't have a do to go to!!

Doobigetta · 09/07/2015 20:38

I think the dress is lovely and perfect for a wedding. Fwiw though, I don't have lower middle class hang ups about nude shoes either on me or on other people, but I wouldn't put them with that dress. There are too many darker colours in it for them to look quite right.

Roseybee10 · 09/07/2015 21:06

That's kind of what I thought when I tried it on together Doo. Doesn't look quite right.
Thanks Hubb. I went to New Look today but there was barely anything in store so might try online.

Determined to wear a fabulous fascinator now lol. Think I'm going to get a hat one! X

I prefer the first. I may be accused of being sexist or of making sweeping generalisation but in my experience a lot of men don't like bright or colourful patterns on women's dresses. I wonder if it's because it's so far removed from what they wear that they just don't understand it,or is it because floral or bold prints aren't overtly sexual enough?
Who knows, I'm possibly waffling...

alongcamespiders · 09/07/2015 23:09

Whoops just seen somebody else posted about some mens' fear of floral. Glad it's not all in my head.
