30 SPF moisturiser

Can anyone recommend a moisturiser that contains a 30 SPF. Mine has just run out and I'd like to try a new one. Ideally nothing too rich as I find they block my pores.

norah I would use the dry sprays on the face cause they contain alcohol amd will dry you out. I know it's not that simple and some types of alcohols are non-drying but you'll notice that dry sprays have alcohols listed as the second or third ingredient - high percentage of the product. At least IME.

thomashardon · 30/06/2015 13:14

The key word in the extract that FolknNorah posted, is that the moisturiser should contain the same levels...they don't actually say that is does/will. You still need protection for everything else!

They do not offer the same levels of protection.

thomashardon · 30/06/2015 13:15

Sorry, my last post was for MissesandMuddles Smile.

MissesandMuddles · 30/06/2015 13:27

Thanks thomashardon.

It's really riled me! SPF is a measurement of protection. The idea that they can use the term and not provide the cover is shocking.

Girlsbrigadewashorrible · 30/06/2015 13:33

I recommend the Boots No 7 facial sun creams. I am using the tinted BB version at the moment, it comes in either factor 30 or 50 and I use it instead of moisturiser and foundation. It doesn't irritate my eyes and I apply it on my eye lids too. I use a bit of face powder on top as it is a bit shiny. On my neck and chest I am using the untinted one from the same range.
I bought the Ultrasun facial cream recently but I far prefer the No 7 one.

thomashardon · 30/06/2015 13:34

MissesandMuddles I agree, and it's so blimmin' confusing! The star rating is definitely helpful in that respect, and I'm glad that it is used in the UK.

All I am trying to say is don't rely on a moisturiser for sun protection, because it won't offer you complete protection from sun damage. It is a skincare product, not a sun protection product.

I don't think it is worth the risk.

(climbs down from soapbox) Grin

AMcoffeeLover · 30/06/2015 13:37

I second boots No7. Only thing my skin will tolerate, everything else gives me spots/rash/burning sensation/dry peeling skin

specialsubject · 30/06/2015 13:41

it's not a derail, it's an important piece of advice.

silly farty beauty products always play fast and loose with the advertising legalities; it is very carefully worded.

want sunscreen? Buy sunscreen. Cheaper too.

AlisonBlunderland · 30/06/2015 13:46

I use moisturiser with SPF as everyday low level protection for "incidental" sun exposure, going to and fro doing the shopping etc.
If I am going to actually be staying out in the sun (I play an outdoor sport all year round) I use a proper facial sunscreen during the summer. In winter I rely on my moisturiser with SPF

thomashardon · 30/06/2015 13:46

" silly farty beauty products "

Ha! I love that description specialsubject! I agree. The cosmetics industry is a murky world.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 30/06/2015 13:48

I would not use - grrr

KatyPeary · 30/06/2015 14:28

Murky world indeed, good description. I would add LUCRATIVE (in capitals)!

thomashardon · 30/06/2015 14:47

Ha, indeed KatyPeary ! Underlined about a million times too Grin!

martikaskitchenaid · 30/06/2015 17:53

Yup, same here - in the summer, I use my suncream as my day-time moisturiser, with serum underneath, then leave any treatment/anti-ageing treatment to night-time. I find the No7 facial sunscreen moisturises well enough, without clogging or giving me spots (and I've got really sensitive, rosacea-prone skin), and I know the UVA/UVB protection's in place.

The more I put on my face in the summer - serum, then moisturiser, then sunscreen, then foundation, then make-up...etc YUK - the more likely it is to flare up.

pockledigg · 01/07/2015 11:41

Hi-in that case can anyone recommend a suncream with UVA & UVB protection that is okay under makeup?

purpleapple1234 · 01/07/2015 11:50

I use serum then boots factor 50 for kids (daughter's) but will chang to a lighter one and factor 30 when runs out. Then brush teeth, get dressed etc while waiting for it to sink it. Then use a very light dusting of powder before putting on foundation.

AMcoffeeLover · 01/07/2015 12:09

No7 facial one in 30 or 50 sits well under my double wear makeup.
Wash face, dry and put it on. Wait 10 mins (usually do hair while I wait) then primer, makeup ect.

FolknNorah · 01/07/2015 13:35

The one I mentioned is good as well, I basically do the same as purpleapple1234 and AMcoffeelover Grin

pockledigg · 01/07/2015 14:11

Thanks for the recommendations & info. Will be investing in some soon. x

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 01/07/2015 17:01

This thread has been great, thank you. I have now gone and bought the Boots No 7 SPF50 one, as I was thinking of the Ultrasun one, but was concerned about stinging eyes (as per some of the reviews).

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 01/07/2015 17:04

This one, which is anti ageing (a friend said this is important in sunscreens), hypoallergenic (my eyes thank me) and has the highest UVA and UVB star rating. Plus, it's currently 2 for £20. www.boots.com/en/No7-Protect-Perfect-Intense-Facial-Sun-Protection-SPF-50-50ml_1483958/

no such thing as 'anti-ageing' beyond surgery which either does nothing or makes you look ridiculous.

wearing sunscreen does slow down wrinkles, as does not smoking, eating properly and choosing the right parents.

brasseur · 01/07/2015 23:47

My wife uses the protect and perfect one and seems to like it.

lurkingaround · 02/07/2015 00:07

My friend uses this Neostrata moisturiser/SPF. She really rates its protection (and she is a bit obsessive about these things!) and says it goes on really nicely, very good on its own or under makeup. Says it' makes a really good primer. I'll give it a go when I need new SPF.

goodnessgraciousgouda · 02/07/2015 13:43

La roche posay do some very good sun creams specifically for the face, which are suitable for sensitive skin, paraben free and won't block your pores. I've seen they do one factor 50 for dry skin, and another for greasy skin.

I was actually reading an article about this today. They say it is much better to use whatever serum and/or moisteriser you need for your skin type - wait a good few minutes for that to settle on your skin, and then to apply a sun cream on top (as opposed to just using a high factor moisturiser).

sun protection "layers up" as well. I know asian girls who use moisturiser with factor 25, then factor 30 sun cream, then often factor 30 bb cream on top. I find it incredible the amount of effort they put into protecting their skin.
