Is there a solution to painful thigh rubbing/chafing?

I've not really posted on S&B before, but here goes.

I have finally admitted that I am now a size 18, can't deny it any longer, and for the first time this week in the hot weather I have found my inner thighs rubbing. The skin turned really red and was so painful.

I don't want to wear tights in this hot weather, especially not with maxi skirts/dresses. What is the alternative though? Please don't say something like liberal and frequent application of Vaseline Sad

Another relatively small person who chafes here (size 10 but I have very muscular legs) - I use Body Glide all the time if I'm even remotely likely to chafe.

I use talc and it really helps.

RiverTam · 29/06/2015 11:57

I found body glide really weird, the sensation of my thighs sliding past eAch other, smoothly for sure but also 'gel-ly' very peculiar indeed.

Itscurtainsforyou · 29/06/2015 12:20

I tried the lacy bands but found they curled up and were even more annoying...

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/06/2015 12:24

River Tam - quite like the sound of that Grin

I have just spent three weeks in very hot Spain. I used Body glide every morning and didn't suffer from chub rub at all. It's marvellous stuff.

badRoly · 29/06/2015 13:10

I use cotton cycling shorts - I have had the ones from Evans and they're ok but a bit plasticy.

I swap between long Sloggi knickers and normal cycling shorts from Peacocks.

luckiestgirlintheworld · 29/06/2015 13:10

I just cut off a pair of leggings above the knee. I've done this for years. I couldn't imagine wearing a skirt or dress without them underneath!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/06/2015 13:11

Luckiest - isn't that really hot?

luckiestgirlintheworld · 29/06/2015 14:21

They only cover my thighs so not too warm. But so worth it. I hate chub rub.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 29/06/2015 14:55

Mitchum roll on here, and yes, over whole area.

Lj8893 · 29/06/2015 17:59

Yeah I'm a size 16/18 now but still had the same issue at a size 8/10.

Where can I get body glide from? That sounds good!

Melonfool · 29/06/2015 18:40

dp uses the boy version of this for sport:

DidgeDoolittle · 29/06/2015 19:29

Body glide was from Amazon. It's like a solid deodorant to apply. Good stuff.

TriJo · 29/06/2015 23:58

Should be available on the high street in any running or cycllng shop too. I usually order from Wiggle.

Cinnamoncookie · 30/06/2015 00:24

I've had some of the Evans shorts for years, but they changed the design and the latest pair I bought could be pulled up to somewhere near my bra band ! I now have high cotton-content cycling shorts (bought on amazon) in black, white and tan. Yes, it is hotter than not wearing them, but like a pp, I couldn't bear the weird 'glidey' feel of antiperspirant etc

Potterwolfie · 30/06/2015 02:13

I bought some nude thin, long shorts by Sloggi after someone recommending them on here. Changed my life! I'm not overweight, but my pear shape means my thighs do rub, and these shorts are fabulous. Wish I'd discovered them years ago!

LadyCassandra · 30/06/2015 06:27

I bought the bandettes last year, they are great. I suffer from recurrent thrush and so wearing cut off tights, leggings or shorts would be a nightmare. I got them from the States, they were about $20 inc postage, I think.
And yes, its not about weight. I recently lost a lot of weight (gave up sugar to combat the recurrent thrush!) and i still get it. I actually wonder whether it can be fungal itself?

SunnyL · 30/06/2015 08:03

I also agree its not necessarily size that's the issue but shape. I always get it whether I'm a size 10 or 18. I've been wearing cycling shorts for yeara but I've just got back from Kenya where it was too freaking hot.

Thanks to these recommendations I've just bought some chamois cream off Amazon. Fingers crossed it works.

spanky2 · 30/06/2015 08:06

I have bandalettes. Fantastic!

Lj8893 · 30/06/2015 19:03

Ok I bought some Mitchum 48hr stick deodorant today so will try it tomorrow and shall report back!

goodasitgets · 30/06/2015 21:44

I wore some shorts from the big bloomers company today and they worked perfectly
Link to a blog review (not mine!) here www.curvywordy.com/2014/06/the-big-bloomers-company-anti-chafing.html?m=1

misslemonsfilingcabinet · 30/06/2015 21:55

Do men get this? It must be partly weight related for some people and women are prone to fat on legs much more than men (I am). Does exercise and toning help? I ask because men anatomically should have a narrower pelvis and it should be more of a problem for them, but never hear it mentioned. Or is it because they wear trousers/shorts and not skirts....
Sorry for the off piste post but genuinely curious.

RiverTam · 30/06/2015 22:22

I know a bloke with it, he's not far but certainly a big bloke. But he doesn't wear skirts or dresses so not really a prob Grin.
