If you've got boobs over a D cup, what style tops and dresses are you wearing?

And from where are you buying them. I can't remember the last time I bought a top that I really liked and which suited me. I especially struggle with going out tops and dresses. I've been shopping today and all I could see were sleeveless high necked tops suited to smaller boobed, willowy figures. I also have curvy hips. I'm really getting pissed off with wasting time on fruitless searches.

I'm a 30F and bought two maxi dresses in the Phase Eight bit of John Lewis today, don't think I've ever bought from them before but will look out for their dresses again, flattering neckline (quite booby but not falling out) and bra straps completely hidden.

I got this one (expensive but so nice on, better than picture) and I needed new clothes desperately

plus a similar style in the sale and in green.

Usually I just avoid any styles that require a strapless bra - yet to find one after an extensive search which doesn't hurt or fall down or both - and polo necks (cowl neck not so bad).

Loula117 · 26/06/2015 19:53

Ooh Destinysdaughter I love that one! Got a kind of Maid Marian/gorgeous Lord of the Rings elf vibe to it!

InMySpareTime · 26/06/2015 19:54

LJ, start with 38GG and sizes thereabouts.

Lj8893 · 26/06/2015 19:56

Ah ok so I'm not too far off at the moment! It's weird though because I tried on a 38e the other day (by accident, I normally wear a ff) and it was too big!

squizita · 26/06/2015 20:01

Anything I can wear a good bra under so no spaghetti straps. Apart from that anything.
I get shirts from pepper berry but apart from that I'm ok with high street (and I'm G cup).

Destinysdaughter · 26/06/2015 20:03

Loula, yes it is, isn't it! I love that Goddessy look, and as I'm an 'Autumn', it's really flattering. I don't find things that suit me very often and as soon as I saw that dress I was really excited! Smile

cielbleu · 26/06/2015 20:09

I'm a 32E/F and I only wear fairly fitted dresses with a highish neck. this kind of thing. V neck, low neck wrap type tops don't suit me. Anything fitted under the bust looks awful on me. Bodycon dresses also look good as long as I'm wearing spanx. I don't think standard rules suit everyone. Anything baggy can make the large of nork look much bigger than they really are imo.

Destinysdaughter · 26/06/2015 20:11

This is a good website for big boobs...

This is also good, describes different body shapes. If you're top heavy, you're a 'strawberry'!

28J here. (agree about D not necessarily being that large but I digress)

I've had more luck finding tops to suit this summer than I have done for a few years. Gap has a few contenders - I have a printed sleeveless lightweight top with a button placket that I am really pleased with (I wear it unbuttoned which creates a flattering neckline) They also have some nice v neck linen tshirts. I also got a really lovely stripy linen tshirt with a scoop neck in M&S which is gorgeous and looks more expensive than it is.

I'm also a big fan of a silky shirt worn open over a little cami. The shirts are probably intended to be worn buttoned to the neck but high necks look hideous on me (could get away with it when I was younger but now it's seriously unflattering. And yes my bras do fit!)

It's all about playing around with the proportions for me. Anything that broadens my narrow shoulders or creates a deep v shape is a winner.

SaulGood · 26/06/2015 21:18

Remus, perhaps you're right about different body shapes making the same breasts appear different. I'm pretty slim. I'm a size 8, 26 inch waist, slim all over and v fit. My boobs are either a 30DD or 30E depending on which bra. I definitely don't have big boobs. In fact I'd say they're unremarkable and probably smaller than average. They're definitely in proportion with the rest of me.

MegMurry · 26/06/2015 21:30

I am a 32DD or E and I do not consider myself to be large of bust, because I am not.

I can wear any sort of top.

stripytees · 26/06/2015 22:33

I'm a 30F or FF and most tops are fine, the only ones that don't fit have a low v-neck where the two sides are not sewed together - hard to explain but Boden is bad for having a lot of these. And sometimes I size up in button down shirts.

I have to say clothes have looked a lot better on me after I started wearing the correct bra size!

Passthecake30 · 26/06/2015 23:08

30ff here, I wear any top, they look "unremarkable" as a pp said!

The only thing I don't like is patterned/lacy bras showing through my tops, so I wear plain bras instead.

lurkingaround · 26/06/2015 23:12

28-30E/F here. Like a pp said, my boobs look fairly unremarkable, even smallish. Can wear most tops.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/06/2015 23:33

How do you know if your bra size is 'correct'? I haven't been measured for a fair while but try on until I find one that fits - invariably 32E.

lurkingaround · 27/06/2015 00:02

I'm no expert, but I know by the band fit - I should be able to close it at its loosest hook (when new) and it should be snug. So I can fit max 2 fingers when I pull it.
Central is it call gore? should sit flat against my rib cage. Well hoiked-up boobs. And I must like the shape. All sounds like it's easy, I find it bloody hard to find a decent bra.

I once read that your nipples should be at about half-way up your upper arm. (Marvellous description Hmm but YKWIM) That might be shite. An expert will be along and really tell you!

lurkingaround · 27/06/2015 00:04

Oh and obviously the cups should fit well, no gaping, no big gaps.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/06/2015 00:05

I hate buying bras, but will have a trying on session soon and see if I notice any difference in a F cup or smaller back etc. Thanks.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 27/06/2015 00:07

You have a bra intervention Remus. This starts with the mn bra measuring guide or you post your measurements here.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/06/2015 00:07

Tell me what to measure, and I'll do it tomorrow. :)

lurkingaround · 27/06/2015 00:07

totally agree, bra buying is a pita. PITA.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 27/06/2015 00:09

Google the better bra campaign and use that guide as a start.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 27/06/2015 00:10

Sorry can't link on phone.

lurkingaround · 27/06/2015 00:16

Link. Just had a quick read. Much MUCH better than my ham-fisted attempt!
