Getting married in jeans.

Getting married in Oz next year in their Spring which will be November or Oct.

I want to wear jeans. I'm 42...the wedding will be in Mils lovely garden...very casual affair, BBQ and about 50 guests.

I just don't want to wear a dress...I never wear dresses and as an actress I've been in plenty of big, dramatic gowns over the years...I've looked and looked and just can't see one I like...I hate 50s style tea dresses and won't feel at all comfy in anything that is age appropriate or suited to a garden wedding.

Oz is very casual anyway...I thought (I've got a good figure) that I could get some really gorgeous jeans and shoes and a lovely lacy white top and have my hair and makeup done...flower or nice hair thing in...and that's that.

Is it ok and can anyone advise or offer ideas. I look best in high necklines...I've a small bust...size 10...I like white lacy tops...something that shows off waist...arms are fine.

No, we were very clear that this was an informal day. The only thing I did ask was that there were no football strips as we really don't like football. Everyone enjoyed it. Some came very casual but a couple did dress up.

We had a BBQ, tonnes of drink, a bouncy castle and face painter.

AIBU are just a bonkers lot. The big white wedding just isn't me. Jeans are. I bought a lovely vintage top and some lovely shoes. Had my hair and make up done and felt great. I would have felt so uncomfortable in anything else but I really don't like being centre of attention.

TheGruffal0 · 24/06/2015 13:25

I think it will look lovely, blue jeans with beautiful top and gorgeous hair! No hep with any top though I saw some in JL that would fit the bill I don't recall which brand. Have a fabulous time!

SusiePaloozie · 24/06/2015 13:28

I actually feel a bit upset after that AIBU thread. One poster said I sounded crackers and others intimated I was pretentious! Thank you lot for being so nice...Hair that sounds just perfect to me.

do it. As long as the guests are as aware its casual - I would be so annoyed if I had to get into a dress and heels and the bride was casually cool in jeans!

SusiePaloozie · 24/06/2015 13:32

I would be clear with guests....I'll tell them myself! "I'm wearing jeans so wear what you want" I don't care if others wear jeans either!

To be fair op on the aibu thread at least half of the posters were supportive. There were some twats, but you didn't help yourself by being rude to people who were trying to help .

Hope you manage to find something nice, I personally think you'll look fab and there are some gorgeous suggestions on here.

Just as an aside because I don't know if anyone has mentioned it... Make sure you tell your guests it's informal won't you? Wink

MerryMarigold · 24/06/2015 13:36

I would go for some vintage cream lace with lovely huge dusky pink roses of varying shades and tiny bits of yellow! I can see it in my head!

Could you even get it made for you by a dressmaker? Just would feel extra special if you'd had it made and you could put together some of the ideas you've see here - this neckline - lace in that part, this cut etc. etc. I would also try and get the shoes and jeans first, so that you had more ideas of how you could get the top made to fit with them eg. if the shoes you fall in love with are white, then go white. If they're cream, go cream.

SusiePaloozie · 24/06/2015 13:37

Yes yellow/...just some proper twats there as you say. I don't think I was rude...I was maybe plain speaking...but not rude at all.

I will remember to tell the guests. Grin

Merry that sounds gorgeous! Draw it for me! Grin

Maybe I am being a twatty pretentious sod as they said in AIBU but I don't want to be a 42 year old woman in a tea dress. I just don't!

I love the lace on this but it's a bit cropped. Could give you an idea though

MerryMarigold · 24/06/2015 13:45

You could make this into a pretty blouse with some silk.

JohnCusacksWife · 24/06/2015 13:58

Getting married in jeans wouldn't be for me and I'd feel a bit let down by a wedding if everyone was wearing jeans. Jeans are such everyday wear that it just wouldn't feel like a special day to me. But it's your wedding!

MilkThistle187 · 24/06/2015 14:42

As a pretty lace top lover myself, I would go for this Isabel Marant, with slightly faded blue, straight not skinny jeans cut off above the ankle with a frayed hem (very easy diy) pretty, maybe sparkly flip flops and a casual bun in your hair. Gorgeous!

SusiePaloozie · 24/06/2015 14:50

That is gorgeous Milk! I did also just find one on Etsy...a crochet bell sleeved thing.

I love the lace in this, but I'd have to get it taken apart. It's very seethrough, so a fitted camisole under should show off your figure. I can just see the setting sun shining through the lace!

MerryMarigold · 24/06/2015 14:56

Sorry to bombard you. If I got married again, I would like the top to be like this Stunning, but pricey. You could get in touch and see if he can make you a top, budget permitting.

burnishedsilver · 24/06/2015 14:58

If you have a pretty definately picture in your head it might be worth considering having a top made.

MerryMarigold · 24/06/2015 15:01

Are you sure you don't want a tea dress?

sweetheart · 24/06/2015 15:19

this is unusual

this top would highlight your waist

this one from coast they also do it with short sleeves

another coast

What about a corset or bustier type top?

Im quite hippyish/boho-y, try looking on freepeople's website for some jeans and tops inspiration.

If you usually wear dresses and are prim and proper then to wear jeans at your wedding I can imagine it to be a bit try hard but if it's your natural style then no one would bat an eyelid.

I love all these tops, sorry I can do the neat links! My style could be a bit hippyish though.

www.freepeople.co.uk/jeans/joan-high-rise-flare/ - these jeans would look amazing!

www.freepeople.co.uk/jeans/reign-high-rise/ nice skinnies.

Good luck with your search!
