School uniform for mummies!

Visited dd's new school today and it got me thinking - what a great excuse for a shopping trip for me! along with the uniform for dd of course

I'm fairly happy with my wardrobe but thought I'd pick the brains of some dab hands on here as to your 'go-to' items for school drop off/pick up time. I seem to remember seeing posts about THE dress last year. Any for us newbies in September?

Also looking for some trousers that aren't jeans. I'm 5ft 8 and 10/12 and feeling a little like jeans may have had their day for me. Any good low maintenance trews you can recommend?

Oh Christ I used to do the school run in the clothes I was wearing to work that day.

Was I supposed to wear a "school uniform" and then go home and change?

Jaysus, are the sneery comments necessary? The OP doesn't mean she gets changed to pick up from school, she means she would like to buy some new clothes for everyday wear. Is that honestly beyond your grasp?

Just wear what you normally wear.

The "school run dress* is just an MN "thing"

When DD was at primary school, some parents were in work clothes, some in running gear, some in jeans and some in horse riding gear. It really doesn't matter.

Anything except pyjamas, that is a big no no but you do see the occasional mum in PJs!!

Well, I'm a nurse, and sometimes you need to get dressed at work etc, and I love the school run dress threads as it is very handy to have something that you can throw on and still feel good in.
Also, if I'm gardening I would get changed for the school run. We have to go right in to the school to the classroom door, and I wouldn't go covered in crap.
That is what I take the OP to mean by getting changed.
Anyway, even if she does want to get dressed up for the school run, its hardly a crime?

Warm waterproof coat.
Other then that just wear vaguely clean clothes

No need for you to all be mean to the op. Why are you all posting on the Style and Beauty board if you are not interested in clothes?

After a difficult few years with PND and a toddler, I enjoyed wearing nicer clothes to do the school run. It made me feel human again and helped give me the confidence to talk to the other mums and make new friends.

I love clothes, that's why I come on style&beauty.

Maybe the school run is different for parent's who are at home all day. When you're up & out for before school clubs on the way to work, there is no such thing as a 'school run dress'.

It's not unreasonable to ask about what to wear on a Style forum. Some people are so tetchy. People aren't changing clothes to do the school run but I think when questions are asked about what to wear its often from sahms, like myself, and the question is really what to wear as a sahm. If you're headed to work in the morning you know what to wear.

If you're walking to school then yes, there are things you'll buy especially for the school run. Warm and waterproof are the two main criteria. It can be hard to meet those criteria with something stylish that you like wearing. Boots, a coat, a hat and gloves are things that I would buy with the school run in mind. For Spring and Autumn anything goes.

Id love to wear wide leg trousers but they don't suit my shape. You are taller than me. I think they could look great on you.

If your not interested or don't agree with the thread, it would be kinder and more helpful to just ignore it rather than make judgements. If I was given some of these replies It would make me feel stupid/ insecure for asking and never want to post again.
It's not Aibu thread - just people asking for advice to make their day a bit more cheerful

I've been wearing some warehouse indigo flares of late, with a navy crew rugby shirt and tan ballet pumps & bag. I have a denim look blazer (smarter than it sounds) from Zara, and I've just had some pearls (necklace and earrings) for my birthday so I put those on too if I feel like it. Very preppy but very comfortable. Add carefully dried hair and I feel pretty immaculate! Would be hugely OTT at a lot of places but my daughter's prep can be a bit white range rover-y. Most people don't bother that much so I don't feel bad when I've got scraggy hair and leggings on either. But if it's nice weather and I have time, there's no reason why not.
