It's got bad, ladies. Really bad.

I have tried: Aveda Scalp Benefits, Philip Kinglsey, Nioxin, Kevin Murphy, T Gel, L'oreal for men, head and shoulders, Redkin, Kertase, I've used coconut oil and aloe Vera and probably a million others. Aveda, Nioxin and Philip Kinglsey worked for a few months, but now it's back...and man, is it angry.

I have just had a Brazilian blo dry done, so should be avoiding silicone/sulphates- though that was four weeks ago now, so probably ok.

What do I need to buy? I will try anything and spend anything. I have a newborn so also suffering hair loss, so my once glorious hair is making me very sad at the moment!

Please, please wise ladies of the beauty and style- solve my scalp woes!

Youcan, I've just moved house, and it's definitely worse since moving from my previously soft water house! I will look into this! Thank you.

Moving to a slightly softer water area has made my hair generally much nicer. I now have to stay in London a few days a week and the water there is harder than here or than my previous place, and now my hair is starting to frizz a bit again. I ameliorate this by only washing my hair alternate days, so some weeks it only gets one wash when I am in London and is not so bad.
My skin has also suffered from the harder water and has needed a lot more attention.

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 19/06/2015 09:33

melon that's so interesting! I've been googling water softeners this morning. DH is onboard because he has psoriasis so it should ease his symptoms too. Can't wait for my moogoo to arrive.

I picked up Head and Shoulders Scalp Soother yesterday - quite cooling/relieving quite quickly. Doesn't eradicate scales, but handy to keep in your bag, just squirt it onto your scalp (although the squirter bit could do with having a pointy nozzle on it).

Melonfool · 19/06/2015 15:52

The Boots one has a sort of squirty nozzle but I found it too narrow so I chopped the top off a bit further down so more could come out.

ladymalfoy · 19/06/2015 15:57

Espa pink scalp mud mask.
Game changer with naked sensitive shampoo and conditioner.
I also found washing just twice a week rather reduced irritation and hair loss.

ShimmeringCobalt · 19/06/2015 19:09

Has anyone tried using Dentinox on their own scalp?

It worked wonders on my babies both times!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 20/06/2015 00:01

< slaps self >
We had a water softener in our last house, and it def helped my skin and hair. Also the DCs used to get eczema in their elbow creases from school shirts and that eased off as well.
Couldn't plumb it into this house, been here almost a year, and flippin skin is playing up again, hair lank. Must get anither one sorted.
Hope the Moogo works tor you op. They usually send some nice samples as well.

I sometimes get an itchy scalp, I use coconut oil (pure extra virgin) melted in a bowl then add a good few drops of pure tea tree or lavender oil, about ten drops I would say. you need a lot of coconut oil... probably about half a cupful then rub it all over scalp and lengths of hair. you will look like you have the worst greasy hair imaginable but then sleep in it (put a towel on your pillow) then thoroughly wash out in the morning. it also helps hair growth apparently!

also get someone to give you a head rub (prob not while the oil is on your hair :D ), I am sure that helps as it increases blood flow plus relaxes you

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 20/06/2015 10:56

Moogoo arrived and have washed, conditioned and creamed! Now drying. Feels a bit waxy but isn't stinging, it smells amazing and the cream was really soothing! So far, so good!

Am I the only one whose thoughts turn to wondering what effect Footner would have on my scalp ...? Shock

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 21/06/2015 18:31

Hmm - well, if you're contemplating that, you might be prepared to try the honey mask thing as seen in the seb derm forums I mentioned earlier. Here's a description of the method. Disclaimer: this is information gleaned from folks on tinternet and does not constitute a peer-reviewed study, by any means. However, a lot of people seem to swear by it and it worked for me, although I only used it on my face. Adding the scalp and inside the ears sounds a whole lot messier and more effort, but maybe worth a try.

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 22/06/2015 11:07

Day #3, just washed and creamed again. Looks pretty good and although I only quickly blow dried to do roots, it isn't too Hagridesque.

Thanks so much, flap and shotgun moogoo seems to be the answer!

That sounds promising GHRF

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 22/06/2015 11:35

Definitely looking up, Tongue.

OP are you still watching your thread? I just wondered how the cream has gone down as I carried on with betnovate religiously and still no change for me. Sad

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 02/07/2015 08:59

tinker I am SO impressed with moogoo!

I still have flakes, but the plaques have nearly all gone and my scalp feels so much better. Also, the shampoo and conditioner seem to really agree with my hair, and it seems to be working better with the Brazilian blo dry than the other stuff I was using.

My DH has been using it too, and has found it much improved his terrible psoriasis scalp.

I can post before and after photos if you're interested?

Indecisivejo · 02/07/2015 09:02

Hi, I would love to see the before and after pics please as I also have scalp issues!
Thanks Smile

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 02/07/2015 09:07

I wish I'd taken more photos now- but you can see in the first one that my scalp is white, that has been the biggest change. And my ears! All around my ears has stopped flaking and peeling. At one point they were bleeding it was so dry and flakey.

Wow thank you! May have to order some!

Tinkerisdead · 02/07/2015 13:21

Ooh wow. Thankyou thats a really detailed update rather than "yeah its good" I don't think I'd dare photo mine Sad

I'm going to order the stuff though, anything is worth a go.

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 02/07/2015 13:42

I'm so sorry for the tacky picture, but it was the easiest way to upload the three with labels!

TongueBiter · 09/07/2015 12:02

I was wondering how you'd got on. I tried Nizoral, actually thought it had started to be effective but then went straight back to how it's always been :-/

Looks like I'll be trying Moogoo too. Will do before/after pics.

avagosling · 09/07/2015 12:10

It could be a thyroid issue, worth digging a bit deeper!
Load up on omega 3s from food and supplements, lots of oily fish.
Topically, I've found the Scalp Soother lotion by Fushi very helpful. But if the problem is internal, topical products are just a bandaid.

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 09/07/2015 15:59

I've been tested for thyroid when I was pregnant and it was negative, I have a very carefully balanced diet with lots of omega three. I do, however agree that it is internal and think it's a hormonal thing after the birth of DD2, as it happened two years ago after I gave birth to DD1 Grin

No more babies! Poor scalp.

This looking good here though, considering the flakey red/white mess it has been, this is a huge improvement!
