Great school run dress and white t shirt from The White Company

I never go into The White company, it's been years but i have been really impressed by a few things, i thought I'd share

School run dress

White t shirt

Flattering boyfriend jeans

I'm hourglass, size 12, 5ft 8in. Generous chest and thighs and these flatter beautifully. Their boyfriend shorts are lovely too - just a couple of inches too short for my longer legs. fat thighs

The bedding was lovely too but a bit pricey.

And don't pay full price there's always a code around of at least 20%

Summer is really coming when people start the chorus of "what's a school run dress? Why on earth do you need to dress up specifically for school? I just wear sacking".

I love that Misguided one, but it's so short! Not with my thighs or to chase around after little DC

Allgunsblazing · 06/06/2015 08:21

OP, I have an extra stone on my bum, thighs and belly, as you do. Those jeans look like they might disguise it, I'll try them on next time I'm in town.
I have their linen Tshirts, they wash and dry fab, I buy them all the time, so for me they're a good buy.
I like the dress, I'll see if it's not too short on me :)

DialsMavis · 06/06/2015 08:25

The jeans in the OP look great, but they would have to be completely perfect for me to spend £90

I like the dress and the jeans.
The T shirt is not worth £28 - you could get that in H & M for a fiver.

PrincessShcherbatskaya · 06/06/2015 09:17

Don't dare criticise the concept of the school run dress on here btw - it's seems to get some mumsnetters very hot and bothered Grin

deadwitchproject · 06/06/2015 09:45

Nor at SR stage but I like that dress for the NR nursery run looks like it could hide a multitude of lumps.

noddyholder · 06/06/2015 10:06

I have jeans like that from primark! £11 and have washed brilliantly The dress is lovely though if you still have a waist!

Loafline · 06/06/2015 11:12

Grin at the school run dress controversy! I don't do a school run, it just means an easy casual summer dress to me.

The dress is knee length on me - I'm 5ft 8in, and finding a knee length dress than flatters is a struggle, with discount this dress is £50, which i feel is fine for the quality and fit.
The jeans - again I struggle to find jeans to flatter especially light coloured boyfriend jeans and they are long enough too so although i don't usually spend £70 on a pair of jeans, I will if I can find a pair that fits well.
And the T shirt is great quality and doesn't look scraggy, i have a géneros chest and it's very flattering.

It would be great if someone could link to the great t shirts and dresses they've found in cheaper shops - the stripey dress above looks great but it would be much too short on me.

Link fail again!HOW do I do a link on here? It never works!

TheFairyCaravan · 06/06/2015 11:42

This is my SRD (although I don't do the SR). I got it in navy, it looks really nice on.

Shonajay · 06/06/2015 11:58

I'm five foot eight, 34G and that's a ridiculous amount of money for a piece of see through nylon. Knee length dresses don't suit me, they need to be above the knee or calf length, maybe that's the issue you're having.

Unless of course you are exceptionally oddly shaped, or completely made of Lego, and if that is the case I apologise for my insensitivity.

I'm just off to get changed into my ETD lounge suit, (empty the dishwasher for those not in the know) it was a steal at Boden, only £60 a piece in the sale so I had to have two. Insert piggy snort here.

CuntWagon · 06/06/2015 11:59

I've just bought that stripy Missguided dress...and two pairs of shoes Blush

Golfhotelromeofoxtrot · 06/06/2015 12:05

Hope you like it Wagon!

Loafline · 06/06/2015 12:26

You having a bad day Shona Wink. Have you seen the dress in real life or are you going by the comments in their review section - it is not see through....I understand that not everyone wishes to pay £50 for a dress but that doesn't make it an outrageous amount of money.

And it was only a suggestion, no compulsion implied or intended. Smile

I think i must be made of lego Shock

Usual horror at SRD
MY kids primary banned cars from parking:dropping outside. Very good thing too.

fairyfuckwings · 06/06/2015 12:31

I really like that dress. How did you get it for 50 quid?

All of those are nice but massively overpriced! Loads of those dresses in Gap (also a decent length) and esprit does lovely tshirts for half the price and great quality.

Floisme · 06/06/2015 13:13

Thanks for the links, op - bet you're wondering why you bothered now Grin

I think everyday basics that fit properly, flatter your shape and wash well can be very hard to find and whenever you do, they're worth spending a bit more on.

Loafline · 06/06/2015 13:19

Grin Floisme I've seen it before but with usually with a controversial handbag thread, I never expected my links to irk so much...good job the rest of my wardrobe is hidden from screen view!

OP posts:
fredabear · 06/06/2015 13:37

jeez its just a couple of links to stuff someone likes, why all the aggro?? SRD as already pointed out repeatedly has nothing to do with dressing for the SR and if someone wants to shops at TWC that's up to them, not every things is a competition to see who can buy the cheapest clothes and dress up the least!

Oly4 · 06/06/2015 14:05

Loafline, I too have no problem paying White Company prices for quality stuff with a good fit. I find their stuff generally much better than H&M and loads of other places. I have knitwear from there which still looks immaculate five years on. And their summer Jersey dresses are my staple and last ages. However, I do think the quality of their jersey this season is rubbish, way thinner than my stuff from even two years ago. That's annoying. But I still buy their bed linens as they are lovely IMO and wash really well, I love their knitwear and their cotton and linen tops do hold their shape. Just bring back the heavier Jersey White Company!
