Bra intervention didn't work for me!

TheCunnyFunt · 02/06/2015 23:04

I measured myself as per the bra guru instructions and came up at something like a 36G/GG (in a 38FF), I bought a few different bras in the new size and they were all terrible. The bands were unbearably tight and the cups were huge! I scooped and scooped until I could scoop no more and they were still ridiculously too big and baggy. I changed them all for 38FF and they were perfect.

Has bra intervention not worked for anyone else or is it just me?

Bra intervention does not mean slavishly following the tape measure - it's about getting a starting point and knowing what a bra should look and feel like and adjusting from there. It's not "oh, you measure , that's your size". That's not, and never has been, the point.

Which bras did you buy?

Pantsalive · 02/06/2015 23:40

I was going to say on the other thread that the bra ladies are very good at recommending styles based in what shape you are, ie whether you are more rounded in the top or the bottom, whether you have a wide gap in the middle, etc. Perhaps they could make some more detailed recommendations for you.

Also, in my experience, the bands stretch quite quickly to become more comfortable. I now have to use the second set of hooks. I was fitted by an amazing woman a few years ago who explained that the strap should always be fitted to the loosest hook so that you can make them tighter when you need to later on.

Pantsalive · 02/06/2015 23:41

Oh and there's a 'bra lady' just when you need one...

imjustahead · 02/06/2015 23:42

a 36G has the same cup size as a 38ff, it depends on make, style, your shape, ie short on body, long in body. distance between breasts. and so many things.
Having not seen your original thread and what your concerns were with the bras you were wearing it's hard to know why you didn't change size iyswim?

The only thing i know from exp is that bras stretch and go out of shape. Those with thinner straps are useless, so maybe your new bras are just better in those qualities?

BumgrapesofWrath · 02/06/2015 23:48

Hello just want to say we've got matching boobs and i've done the same size swap as well!

Pantsalive · 04/06/2015 00:42

imjustahead - Cunny was originally looking for bridal lingerie recommendations, here. We just ended up talking about bra interventions.

TheCunnyFunt · 04/06/2015 15:49

Yes, I am looking for wedding lingerie and it reminded me of my bra intervention, it was a while ago now though, can't remember exactly what bras I got.

OP posts:
TheCunnyFunt · 04/06/2015 15:50

Bumgrapes was a 36G ok for you or was it like mine?

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/06/2015 16:28

Just like any clothes there's a lot of variation, and there are some brands which tend to run small or big. Debenhams own brand (Gorgeous) and M&S own brand bras both seem to be running snug in the band just now.

For wedding lingerie - what sort of neckline is it? Do you need strapless/plunge/square?

TheCunnyFunt · 04/06/2015 16:40

Anything Statistically, the only thing I'm wearing under my dress is a pair of pants :o a bra won't work under my dress. I want something for when I have to remove the dress Wink I'm having a hard time finding something that I like that also comes in my size!

The bras I got that didn't fit were from Bravissimo by the way. I rarely get them from anywhere else.

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/06/2015 18:56

so we're not looking for sensible then? Grin

Have you looked at Ewa Michalak? Polish company who do bras with stupendous lift and you're well within their size range - they go to an L cup I think and I saw they are extending their size range further. babydoll or bra with lovely suspender belt. Prices are in Zloty, roughly divide by 5 for pounds. Sizing is a bit snug - if you tell me any bras which fit you will I can probably guess what size you'll need. I wear this brand more than any other tbh

If colour doesn't matter, the rococo charm is nice as, or more bridal is the lola luxe basque

Have you looked at Parfait by Affinitas? Again, sizing can be a bit funny so you might need to try a bigger cup but they have a nice selection. Amazon sell a lot like this babydoll or this bra

Not a bra at all, but I own this in a different colourway and it's actually very nice on. I'm about a 16, 30HH bra and normally would run a mile but it's, erm, rather popular shall we say Grin.

Branleuse · 04/06/2015 19:00

i would go back to bravissimo and ask for their recommendation

TheCunnyFunt · 04/06/2015 20:11

No, not sensible :o

OP posts:
TheCunnyFunt · 04/06/2015 20:11

Thanks, will check those out!

TheCunnyFunt · 04/06/2015 20:14

I have that Rococo set, coincidentally I'm actually wearing that bra today!

OP posts:
TheCunnyFunt · 04/06/2015 20:19

That Polish babydoll is nice, but what is 259.00z? in stirling? Confused Google is not helping.

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 04/06/2015 21:03

It's 5 zloty to the pound.

TheCunnyFunt · 04/06/2015 21:17

Oh Blush you said that didn't you? Sorry Blush

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 04/06/2015 21:17

No worries! They're not far off Bravissimo prices for bras. I'm waiting on an order just now actually...hurry up new bras!

TheCunnyFunt · 04/06/2015 21:23

Statistically this Polish site looks fantastic. I will be forever grateful to you if the stuff fits me well!

OP posts:
Tanaqui · 04/06/2015 21:27

Statistically, may I ask an Ewa Michelak question?

I measure a 34 d (double d at certain times!) and fit nicely in a triumph amourette, do you think a 34 d would be the right size for an Ewa? Her bras are so pretty!

SaulGood · 04/06/2015 21:31

I've tried that bra intervention stuff. I have tried on all sorts. Nothing looks or feels right.

I am between a 28 band but find 30 much more comfortable. Cup size should be a DD apparently but I just spill out from the middle and the edge of the cups dig in and leave a mark. I've tried going up and down. I need to bite the bullet and let somebody help.

goodasitgets · 04/06/2015 21:47

I'm awaiting a ewa delivery too Blush
Best bras ever, the uplift is amazing, they don't have stupid diggy in armpit wires and I fell asleep in mine earlier which shows how comfy they are

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/06/2015 21:57

Saulgood it's not uncommon for slimmer women to need a band up from what the measure - so a 28 in a 30 isn't unusual. There's that much less fabric to stretch in a 28 band once you have a chunk factored out for wires. We often see the opposite at larger bands! I suspect it might be a shape issue with the cups too - are your breasts very close set (i.e. not much gap between them?)

Tanaqui, I am sized out of triumph however Ewa M cups tend to run on the small side so my cut would be the DD.

What are you waiting for good?

SaulGood · 04/06/2015 22:05

Not particularly close set no. I don't think so anyway. I've never thought about it or looked at other women for comparison.

I can't wear plunge bras though. They do not and never have looked right and are so uncomfortable. I have to wear balcony bras.
