I admired a colleague's shoes today

She's very well turned out, the last pair of shoes I admired turned out to be Jimmy Choo.

These however, were some her mother had passed on after deciding they were too racy for her and were from Hotter Shoe Company

They're a bit different, but quite wearable (IMO) and apparently very comfortable. The aqua colour would be perfect to go with a wedding outfit I have.

So, are they good or was my opinion formed by the expectation that they'd be a fancy designer brand?

Please try and advise, not from a high fashion perspective but as a middle aged woman not prepared to wear uncomfortable shoes all day for anyone/anything Grin

Never has a company been more inappropriately named than Hotter shoes.

I know feck all about style but I can tell you that my Hotter shoes (not those ones) are very comfortable.

FiftyShadesOfGreen4205 · 01/06/2015 19:55

Oh frigging hell.

I like them but then I'm not a shoe person and always go for comfort over style.

DinosaursRoar · 01/06/2015 19:58

I would say as well, there's a good chance you'll be at the wedding, hopefully with a super cool rest of outfit so people do assume that the shoes are some really random brand they've not heard of before, and it'll be fine. Then you'll find yourself in the ladies at the same time as the bride's great Aunt and realise you are wearing the same shoes.... Wink

I'm early 40s and a recent fan of Hotter heels. Stylish and comfortable. There is no point buying uncomfortable shoes! Men wouldn't dream of it!
I've had many compliments about them (not from old people!) and can do a twelve hour day standing at work in them. Perfect! Expensive though, but good sales.

PetiteBateau · 01/06/2015 20:40

I am well known by my friends for my love of ugly shoes but those are grim Grin

macnab · 01/06/2015 20:51

fugly is my new favourite word Smile

I don't much like them OP but it depends on your overall look/style (not even age because my mum's mid 60s and wouldn't wear them)

I hope you're at an age where you don't really care what others think. If you like something and it's comfy then wear it!

BeaufortBelle · 01/06/2015 20:57

I like them.

scabbycat · 01/06/2015 21:31

I like them. They're like a wearable version of some beautiful super-high batshit crazy shoes I got from Irregular Choice that I can't actually walk in, but which I often get out of the box and stroke...

More to the point, if you like them, they go with your outfit, and they're comfortable, why wouldn't you get them?

Greengardenpixie · 01/06/2015 21:38

I love them!! Very wearable. They look vintage!

mellicauli · 01/06/2015 21:46

I am very middle aged and Mumsy I have difficult feet. But Hotter Shoes are definitely for the mother of someone who is middle aged and mumsy . These are no exception. Sorry.

mooth · 01/06/2015 21:50

They are very similar to Irregular Choice, which people tend to love or hate. If you like them then buy them and wear them. End of.

Wellwellwell3holesintheground · 01/06/2015 22:02

They remind me of these. Not sure if that's good or bad though...

Well this just confirms that I have no style then, because I have these in Purple Suede. I've always been known for having my own approach to life, though.

But someone even stopped me on the tube to ask me where I got them - and not as a joke either.

OP, they're really comfy. I cannot wear any other heels but these are comfortable. Do not wear them with anything fussy, though.

travailtotravel · 01/06/2015 22:07

Oh, and I am just turned 40 but look 30 (said the independent survey)

niminypiminy · 01/06/2015 22:13

I like them! In fact, I've been contemplating buying a pair for a while, and will do when they do some different colours in the suede -- can't wear acqua or pink. I love a Louis heel, very twenties. I had a lovely pair of black suede shoes very similar to these in my 20s that came from Bally and were the most expensive shoes I have ever bought (inflation-adjusted, because my 20s were now several decades ago).

I find the ageism of the comments on this thread really, really depressing. Girls, you'll be old one day!

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 01/06/2015 22:23

WellWellWell - that's exactly what they are! I haven't seen that picture for years!!

SouthWestmom · 01/06/2015 22:24

They are ok but the rest of them... OMG hideous

Pumpkinette · 02/06/2015 09:08

I like them. They look comfortable and come in half sizes. Maybe not fancy night out shoes but for the office or daytime wear I think they would be great. Not the metallic gold ones though - they are fugly.

I might not be the best person to ask about shoes though. My last pair of comfy work shoes from clarks appear to be quite popular with the local OAP set - I'm only 31 Confused

BeaufortBelle · 02/06/2015 09:13

I quite like them too but I am mid 50s, have plantar fasciitis and think they are a great improvement on Vintage Ecco and some of the Vintage Hotter type stuff. I'd wear them to work and at weekends - perhaps not for a night out.

I generally look for a bit of arch support and can convince myself that some of the VanDal styles are quite nice. Gabor too.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 02/06/2015 09:41

I have back issues so do need 'sensible' shoes but I couldn't wear those, I'm no where near old enough

LadyPenny · 02/06/2015 10:23

I spent a summer with plantar fascitis and the only thing that got me through the pain was a pair of Hotter shoes. They are like walking on clouds. The frumpy styles put me off wearing them all the time.

I really like the suede version of these though. They look very 20s. I would be very tempted to buy the aqua ones.
