Do they get lots of help? Wondering if they do their running and work outs at 5am as they seem quite hands on mums.

It is a fabulous time and money saver to exercise together - no chauffeuring DC to anywhere! DD is 10 and cannot get herself very far on her own yet.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 01/06/2015 17:43

I'd also politely suggest that, if you can afford two personal trainers and a yoga teacher who comes to your house to use as 'creative' childcare, you are already similar to the realms of the famous women we are talking about - someone who has money to free up time.

I think the local leisure centre would be less than impressed if I tried to stash DS under the reception desk like something out of the Brittas Empire. Grin

motherinferior · 01/06/2015 17:44

I bugger off and leave mine in the mornings while I run round the park (or do when my knee is working properly). It is a glorious release I could only dream of in the days when they required my presence at the breakfast table.

SirChenjin · 01/06/2015 17:44

Two personal trainers and a yoga teacher who comes round isn't really within a normal budget, or most people's idea of a money saving tip - you know that, right? Grin

TheWordFactory · 01/06/2015 17:46

One 10 year old is a bit different to a 3 and 1 year old!

Honestly, it never ceases to amaze me how incapable people are of seeing that other people can't simply replicate their lives.

When I had the twins I received bucket loads of 'advice' on how I should do things - by parents with one baby! It never occurred to then that said suggestions might not be practical Grin.

Bonsoir · 01/06/2015 17:46

Ah, it's a tax break in France - you get 50% back on your tax bill!

SirChenjin · 01/06/2015 17:47

Penguin - don't rise to it. I'm sure Bonsoir is lovely, but often dispenses this type of advice. She's one of MN's slightly more eccentric characters Grin

Bonsoir · 01/06/2015 17:47

People describing how they manage things is not a failure to see other people's POV - it's just an illustration of doing things a different way that might inspire others.

motherinferior · 01/06/2015 17:48

And 'family swim time' when they were younger was not exactly a matter of leaving them while I did my regular 60 lengths - more a hellish- splashabout.

Also, while it is possible to get up at 4.30 and do yoga if one is inclined that way, it is not a madly good idea to go running; and leisure facilities have a selfish habit of shutting at that time. I suppose I could have run up and down the stairs, although that would probably have woken everyone in our house and the next-door neighbours.

TheWordFactory · 01/06/2015 17:49

Do you think my top tip for keeping a beautifully tidy home might inspire? Get a housekeeperGrin.

motherinferior · 01/06/2015 17:51

You could have used the babies as weights, WF. Swinging one nonchalantly from each hand.

Bonsoir · 01/06/2015 17:51

Yes, get a housekeeper. Or bring up your DC properly!

TheWordFactory · 01/06/2015 17:53

MI quite!

I recall many a parent of one advising me to take DC swimming.

Them: it's so good for babies.
Me: I've got two.
Them: they'll never be afraid.
Me: I've got two.
Them: they love it.
Me: I've got two.

And on...

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 01/06/2015 17:53

SirChenjin - Don't worry about me. I've been around since Gina Ford was suing MN. I'm aware of Bonsoir's style and I'm not offended. Smile

pinkfrocks · 01/06/2015 17:55

DH tells me that he always sees dads at the gym with their little ones in pushchairs while they work out- this is at weekends.

I have no idea how SC spends her time but I am sure that having a DH flying all over the world all the time ( as do many of my friends) and having to give time to her duties as a PMs wife, which she probably hates, she has certain demands on her time which, although not the equivalent of a single mum on the breadline, still take up time when she'd rather do something else.

Having money, time and on-hand childcare does help but it's not the sole solution; look at Cherie Blair who had all of those and she ended up rather overweight as did other Pm's wives.

Bonsoir · 01/06/2015 17:56

Cherie Blaire didn't have a lot of time though - she was busy pursuing all the lucrative business ops she could identify.

DepthFirstSearch · 01/06/2015 17:57

Actually, I would probably find it difficult not to end up overweight if I had to go out to all those lunches, dinners etc! no willpower when it comes to food

Baddz · 01/06/2015 17:59

All this talk of gym memberships, personal trainers, yoga classes etc...reminds me of why I need to pinch myself sometimes and realise this is mn...not real life!
For those of us with no money, young DC, caring obligations for older relatives and voluntary work or paid work any of the above is impossible.
It's not laziness, or lack of gumption, it's just how it is.
Add in being able to buy fresh fruit and veg, specialist diet food or even see a nutritionist without worrying about going over your food budget!
Add to that having a cleaner or nanny...
I can totally see how women who have all that can look like that.

Eatupnow · 01/06/2015 18:02

I've no idea why anyone would find either of these scrawny women attractive, particularly Cameron. Not keen on the horsey look myself.

Nice.

Actually, she looks amazing.

Far fitter, more attractive and healthier than these flabby, doughy women you see. Not keen on the beached whale look myself.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 01/06/2015 18:04

'Nice'
Pots and kettles maybe?

TheWordFactory · 01/06/2015 18:05

bad some people like to consider themselves superior.

It gives them a thrill to compete with random anonymous strangers on the internet. Go figure.

Eatupnow · 01/06/2015 18:06

You missed my point entirely, Sangria.

I would NEVER be so vile about other women - I merely took those words and changed them, see?

TheWordFactory · 01/06/2015 18:07

I don't think it matters if you like Sam Cam's look.

The fact is, it's obvious it takes time, effort and money.

No point pretending it's effortless or that anyone can achieve it if only they get a bit more creative.

motherinferior · 01/06/2015 18:13

This thread is also conflating the need for exercise with the perceived need to look Groomed.

Eatupnow · 01/06/2015 18:14

Agreed Word.

I have 4 kids, am a bit older than Sam and have a figure like hers. It's bloody hard work ! I love my food and wine so I work hard instead.
