I feel depressed and worried about getting married at 42

Aren't I silly? I just do though. I'm happy we're getting married but I'm so worried about finding something nice.

We're marrying in DH's home country which is hot, hot hot. The wedding will be either on a beach or in his parent's garden...either way...outside and casual-ish....so I'm not looking for something massively formal....I'm a size 12 with a small bust...I have a lot of broken veins on my chest so want a halter style but not a low halter....or something with lace that covers that area...I suit halters which go right up to the throat or high necks.

My arms are fine...nice even...as are my shoulders and back so don't mind showing those...legs...meh....not fussed on them.

Generally I suit either wiggle style dresses or bias cut thiings...not at all keen on those 50s tea dresses...

I'm probably looking for the impossible...I like lacy, floaty slightly boho stuff...don't mind about colour...please can you help?

Budget not so hot...no more than 600 pounds....I'm worried!

What about this?

Look for a cowl or boat neck .
These are very flattering & age appropriate.

that monsoon one is perfect!

BastardGoDarkly · 24/05/2015 21:45

You're certainly not looking for the impossible! You'll get loads to choose from with the posts that follow :) have a great day, it sounds fabulous.

Itscurtainsforyou · 24/05/2015 21:47

Love that monsoon dress!

MrsNextDoor · 24/05/2015 21:48

Thank you all...I DO like that Monsoon one but not at all keen on those embellished straps. I don't like glitter...or sequins or anything...the cowl and boat necks are a good idea too...the one in the pic is not I don't think what I want...it's too...I don't know...middle aged...even though I am!

I got married at 42 as well and got my dress from here www.minna.co.uk - lots of lovely stuff on here.

BastardGoDarkly · 24/05/2015 21:53

What about Grecian style?

MrsNextDoor · 24/05/2015 21:55

Again...I feel like Grecian style looks as though I'm trying to hide a large stomach...I've got quite a flat stomach...

crje I must say I'm puzzled about your reference to a neckline being "age appropriate". I'm older than the OP and I have never once in my life picked up and then sadly relinquished an item of clothing that was in every other way perfect because it was not "age appropriate" ...

Surely one dresses to suit one's figure, face, budget and the event?

MrsNextDoor · 24/05/2015 22:02

Zero that phrase jarred with me slightly too but I think she meant that many women my age wouldn't like to show too much chest.....either because it's wrinkly or red and marked like mine! Grin

MrsNextDoor · 24/05/2015 22:03

I suppose I want to be sophisticated but also a bit sexy....it's bloody hard isn't it! I can't get my legs out as they're not great...I just want to look nice.

ZeroFunDame · 24/05/2015 22:05

OP When is the wedding? Can you not simply wait a couple of weeks for the sales and then dangle your £600 in front of Matches or Net-a-Porter or Browns? I'm sure you could find something lovely - that suits your own style ...

MrsNextDoor · 24/05/2015 22:08

Zero it's not until next year! I suppose I could...is that a good idea then? I'm so new to all this I've no idea.

Do you want a traditional wedding type thing?

Or this?

Sure you could add sonething wedding-y across the chest (or investigate thread vein treatment before next year?)

ZeroFunDame · 24/05/2015 22:28

Cannot resist adding this. Overbudget and the semi-see through will be out of fashion next year - but if it makes the sale ...

MrsNextDoor · 24/05/2015 22:34

Zero see I quite like that...it's a bit more edgy and I'm not a trad kind of person....also wedding is in Oz...they're a bloody year behind anyway!

I did have a look at Net a Porter....gosh....I saw many lovely ones...will definitely be keeping an eye out at the end of the season for anything in their sale...

MrsNextDoor · 24/05/2015 22:54

Oh my that's very lovely Tethers but do you think I'd be a bit old for it? I'd like to think not....

AS an aside I loved the dress which Melissa George wore at the amFAR thing the other day it looked better on the catwalk and it's something which I could only dream of owning...but isn't it lovely? I love the stars...but who gets married in a dark colour in a hot country? nobody.

why not make an appointment at one of the bridal shops, make a fun event of it with some of your gal pals or not. make sure it's a shop with a huge selection of designers.
most dresses can be customized to not have bling and glitter.
you might be pleasantly surprised as to what looks amazing on you :).
enjoy the planning.

wildone81 · 24/05/2015 23:10

No idea how much they come in at, but what about something like this in Ivory www.dessy.com/dresses/bridesmaid/2937/#.VWJLeMeCOrU

Sold as a bridesmaid dress so probably cheaper than a wedding dress?

Glitteryfrog · 24/05/2015 23:13

Love the Dessy dress, you don't have to wear white, you could go for mint or pale pink depending on your colouring.

MrsNextDoor · 24/05/2015 23:18

I do like that Dessy dress but not that fabric...it's a bit too...I dunno...smooth or something!
