I feel depressed and worried about getting married at 42

Aren't I silly? I just do though. I'm happy we're getting married but I'm so worried about finding something nice.

We're marrying in DH's home country which is hot, hot hot. The wedding will be either on a beach or in his parent's garden...either way...outside and casual-ish....so I'm not looking for something massively formal....I'm a size 12 with a small bust...I have a lot of broken veins on my chest so want a halter style but not a low halter....or something with lace that covers that area...I suit halters which go right up to the throat or high necks.

My arms are fine...nice even...as are my shoulders and back so don't mind showing those...legs...meh....not fussed on them.

Generally I suit either wiggle style dresses or bias cut thiings...not at all keen on those 50s tea dresses...

I'm probably looking for the impossible...I like lacy, floaty slightly boho stuff...don't mind about colour...please can you help?

Budget not so hot...no more than 600 pounds....I'm worried!

That was a bit harsh Mrs!

Sorry nothing further to add but love a good wedding dress nosey Grin

Spring 2014 was a great Schiaparelli collection ... Haven't been quite so enamoured since.

Dark dress/ hot country? Why on earth not *OP? Have all your guests in light /bright colours for contrast. Or terrify the populace with a goth entourage. Grin

Go for what ever colour you like! You're the bride!
I'm 95% sure I'm going to wear navy for my wedding.

Kaekae · 24/05/2015 23:31

Monsoon do some stunning dresses. Also, as suggested make some bridal shop appointments. I had a vision of the type of dress I wanted but that totally changed once I started trying dresses on in the bridal shops. Ask if they have any sample dresses. I got a beautiful sample wedding dress which I haggled down to £550! Get a light spray tan to disguise any veins! Congratulations!

If you like crunchy (my own main stipulation for clothes) you must swear allegiance to Acne Studios. None of these are deliberately wedding-y but the black dress at twice your budget is to die for. (And will almost certainly be halved in the sales.)

ZeroFunDame · 24/05/2015 23:48

(That should probably have been two paragraphs as none of this season's frocks is particularly textured, though lots of the other stuff is. But they're crunchy in attitude.)

I can't get on with any of those Zero....the models look so unhappy! I must be old now.

Re age appropriate
The op wrote about being a 42yr old bride . I just mentioned the boat neck suiting her age because her age was in the op. Nothing moreConfused

ZeroFunDame · 25/05/2015 02:10

Mmm - logical I guess.

However my understanding was that the whole point of the thread - both the OP and the responses - was to reassure the OP that she would absolutely not be restricted in any way by virtue of her staggeringly advanced age from acquiring exactly the wedding dress of her dreams.

It kind of put a dampner on that ...

crje · 25/05/2015 02:20
Hmm I'll leave it to those who can read between the lines.

Hope you find a dress op

ZeroFunDame · 25/05/2015 02:29

More generally - this "age appropriate" thing seems terribly parochial. All over the Med and the Caribbean women of all ages are going about their business in perfectly ordinary sleeveless, low necked sundresses. No one's telling them they need to cover up because their ancient flesh is too hideous to be seen.

Elsewhere here today there was a thread about boleros. Those things are the work of the devil, ruining countless outfits. But women buy them because someone has persuaded them that they are more acceptable to the sight of others than their own arms.

I find it very odd.

42 isn't old. You'll look back in 10 or 15 years and wonder why you thought you had to cover you legs. You're going to look amazing on the day.
