I am looking for a nice soft black eyeliner that doesn't need sharpening

Had a look in town yesterday and could only find liquid (which is too harsh for a lady of my vintage, plus I don't have a steady hand) or the pencil type, which I find too hard and a bugger to sharpen. All that remembering to put it in the freezer first lark, and then they snap off anyway grr!

I want a soft one that pushes up or something. It's for doing my upper lids.

I have the same problems as you, OP. I use No7 Stay Precise felt tip eyeliner which, as it says, is just like a felt pen. I find it much easier to apply than the liquid or pencil ones and its easy to remove if you botch it up.
Can't remember how much it cost, but No7 stuff isn't usually too pricey compared to other brands.

Prestige do a nice automatic eyeliner. You just need to twist it to get more eyeliner rather than sharpen IYSWIM.

I'm a Vintage lady too (with wobbly hands) and a recent convert to eyeliner.
Started off with the Bobbi Brown gel one, but actually prefer Maybelline Eye studio gel... a third of the price, includes a brush and is an easier texture to apply.

I use Black chrome. The secret to subtle use is actually to load the brush well, wipe off excess and you can get a good line.
Once it's dry, I brush over a thin line of powder eye shadow (MAC Satin Taupe for me). This gives the soft effect of a smokey pencil but lasts all day

Does it have a soft finish PunkrockerGirl? To be honest your user name doesn't suggest subtle soft make-up Smile. I think I'm too old for hard lines if you know what I mean? But I like the idea of it being easy to remove, as I tried a liquid one, made a right pig's ear of it, and then couldn't shift it! I will have a look when I'm in Boots though thanks.

I've not heard of Prestige, I will have a look at that thank you.

Yes it's lovely and soft, MrsKravitz, My make-up is a lot more subtle these days Wink

Shonajay · 23/05/2015 12:24

Avon supershock gel liner is very soft, but does need sharpening. I keep mine in the fridge before sharpening as it just goes everywhere. Once it's on its on though.

Clinique Quickliner in New Black is a soft black, wind-up pencil.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/05/2015 14:32

Have you tried using a black eyeshadow, with a thin brush? I find that softer and easier to control than all the eyeliners I've ever tired. Otherwise, agree that Clinique ones are decent.

MrsKravitzFromAcrossTheStreet · 23/05/2015 14:42

I just bought the Clinique Quickliner in new black (apparently a flattering soft black) from eBay - £6.35! It sounds perfect, thanks.

Thank you all for your help. I love s&b Smile

I bought a Max Factor one by mistake also of a certain vintage and the writing on it was too small for me to read but I really like it.

It's the twisty-uppy type, and much softer than a pencil, which is what I thought I was buying!

It's called "Excess Intensity longwear eyeliner." I will definitely be buying it again, despite the daft name.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/05/2015 14:47

Max Factor do a really nice twist up one, really nice, stays put and is very flattering.

sleepwhenidie · 23/05/2015 14:49

I use the Bobby Brown long wear cream shadow stick as eyeliner, love it.

Note to self- RTFTBlush

Yes, what Cake posted, that one!Grin

I have the black and brown version, the brown one is one of the best brown liners I've used, very good colour.

A good brand of eyeliner pencil should not be too sharp, it tends to be the cheapy ones that are rock hard and scratchy. A bit boring, and not especially fancy or expensive brands but I have found the M&S and No.7 ones to be excellent quality, and also Urban Decay, which are quite soft and easy to blend if you want a smudgey smokey look. I sharpen them all the time without any problems. They rarely snap and I get a nice point without the pencil being too hard.

SilkandSteel · 23/05/2015 15:17

Avon Glimmersticks are wind up type pencils, they are excellent and quite cheap on Amazon

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/05/2015 15:24

Oh yes, Avon glimmer sticks are lovely and soft. Didn't stay put well enough for me but beautiful liners.

cococandyfloss · 23/05/2015 20:17

I love quickliner from Clinique-they have a big range of colours/shades too.

mowglik · 24/05/2015 00:53

Mac PowerPoint pencil liners - they are the twist up variety and are lovely soft and smudgey, but not as smudgey as kohl liners and last ages even on oily lids

reup · 24/05/2015 00:58

Bourjois do a twist up one - with a sharpener but vi never need too use it. Its great.

FlumptyDumpty · 24/05/2015 01:25

Bare Minerals Lasting Line. No sharpening required, can use it at an angle for a thin line or flat on for a thicker one. Smudgeable for the first 30 secs, then sets and won't budge all day. Lasts about 6 months used daily top and bottom. Really wouldn't switch to another brand now.

CheerfulYank · 24/05/2015 01:44

Ooh, I'm also in the market for this!

Mbear · 24/05/2015 08:27

I just bought Sisley photo eye twist and it is amazing! Think I'll be going back for more colours!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/05/2015 10:46

Yanky!Grin I'm going to PM you.....
