What to wear to romantic wedding in Italy?

Hello everyone

My best friend is getting married in august. The wedding is in Italy, beautiful romantic Italy. It will be hot!

I want to find something really special to wear.

I'm 5.2, size 14. I have an hourglass figure. Big bust (30HH) small waist and big hips. I have olive skin.

I'd prefer a dress, as the clean lines look better on me. I don't like my legs so something to the knee, or a maxi dress would be nice. Willing to spend up to £100. Will also need advice on shoes please!

Thank you in advance for any replies. I did go shopping yesterday but can't see anything special. I know it's a way off but I'd like to buy something soon while the money is in the bank Grin. Plus I'm mega excited about it Blush

Sorrento is beautiful. DH and I had part of our honeymoon there.

I'd be wary of buying the dress so early though. You might lose more weight if you're a gym bunny. Why not put the money in an envelope so it's not spent on bills but you have it when you find the dress.

Is it in church? If so, then make sure you keep your knees and shoulders covered otherwise people may tut. Actually, even if it isn't in church I'd still probably wear something more conservative than you would in England.

Are there going to be Italians there? If so I'd be tempted to wear a hat or a fascinator as it'll be a bit of a novelty. Quite a few of the Italian female guests were excited at my English wedding because they could buy a fascinator for it Grin

Thanks all for the tips.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for wedges. Good point.

It's not in a church, it's all being done in a stunning hotel. And no Italian guests either!

I'm a bit concerned about the weather now really. I'll need something quite flowy which I'm not sure suits my curves?

I would go for a dress with thin straps so there's not too much material, and open strappy sandals. Wedges tend to be quite hot because you can't really get strappy ones - there are a lot of slingbacks for example.

We have a house in Italy, I find I never wear wedges there. But you can get really nice cheap sandals in the markets.

If it's a hotel they'll have aircon anyway.

Well its all going to be done outdoors, in a lemon Grove. I think we'll be eating out there too.

Thanks for the tips.

I still have no idea what I want to wear. ConfusedKeep the ideas coming xx

I honeymooned partly in Italy, sorrento was very very hot in August. I completely agree with a floaty dress, wedges, take a fan and don't forget to put on both sunscreen and mosquito repellant!!

How about this ? I always think cross over tops are good with curves :)

I think maybe have my curly mop of hair up too to decrease sweating?

Have you had a look at www.theprettydresscompany.com? I have a few dresses from there and they are great for curvy figures.

if insects love you then avoid bright colours. They always swarm over oranges yellows and pinks etc

and - If its not until august , it may come into the sale....( hopeful?)

HappyGirlNow · 10/05/2015 20:50

I also honeymooned on the Amalfi Coast in August (although Positano) and it was boiling - around 40 degrees. There was a wedding when we were there and half the guests looked so uncomfortable and sweaty.

Please pick something that's not too tight and definitely no man made fibres unless you want to be very uncomfortable..

umisnotananswer · 11/05/2015 10:02

The pretty dress company have some beauties, thanks. Also pepperberry have some nice stuff X

Would silk be the best material for the heat?

OP posts:
agoodbook · 11/05/2015 10:51

We went to a wedding in Tuscany where it was raging hot - wedding was outside under big canopies. Silk clung on one of the guests, but it was a very tailored thing- I wore a linen sleeveless dress and a very floaty chiffon thing over the top, which worked.

lurkingaround · 11/05/2015 12:01

Silk is natural but it's usually very warm/hot, prob not ideal at 30C. It's a good insulator, not really what you're looking for!

Cotton or linen are coolest I think. Someone with more knowledge might have more info

Twinklestein · 11/05/2015 12:14

I'd say not silk. It sticks if you sweat and the sweat will stain it.

I've sort of made this point before but it's important your feet don't get too hot as they will make you hot all over.

I find open sandals with only a couple of thin straps the best - it keeps your feet cool.

The leather or espadrille wedges I wear in England are too hot there. The more leather or material the more your feet get hot and sweaty.

I would for something like this

Or if you want a bit of heel, like this

Those block heels will be fine on cobbles.

hauntedhenry · 11/05/2015 16:33

Last wedding I went to (Spain) I wore a dark indigo linen shift dress with a skinny silver belt and strappy sandals. Sorted.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/05/2015 16:46

We all seem determined to get op in a long cream dress don't we? Grin

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 11/05/2015 19:51

this is lovely either with or without a petticoat. I have it and although cheap it hangs lovely and I feel all girly and romantic in it.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 11/05/2015 19:52

ohh sorry just saw its now unavailable Sad

umisnotananswer · 11/05/2015 20:21
