dunno i use liz earle though as it doesn't make a mess and works well

Stinkersmum · 09/05/2015 22:01

A lot of foaming washes are aimed at problem skin. The thing is, for the product to foam it has to contain surfactants. Surfactants are alkali based. Alkali is the best breeding ground for bacteria. And so the cycle continues.

Stinkersmum · 09/05/2015 22:03

I use balms like Cliniques Take The Day Off or Emma Hardies Moringa balm.

BunnyLebowski · 09/05/2015 22:03

Yeah I think SheWhoMustBeObeyed (CH) said they were bad.

I use LRP Effaclar Foaming cleanser every single day and my skin is pretty perfect (it's for problem skin, I bought it by accident and decided to use it anyway). I hate hate hate creamy cleansers, balms and oils. They just don't make my face feel properly clean.

Minikievs · 09/05/2015 22:04

Liz Earle here too

hazelnutlatte · 09/05/2015 22:04

Most foaming face washes contain SLS which is thought to be bad for your skin. Personally I find anything that foams leaves my skin feeling tight and dry but everyone is different.
I often see cetaphil recommended on here and also the super drug hot cloth cleanser. You could alternatively use any cleansing milk / balm / lotion but wash it off with a flannel and warm water instead of removing with cotton wool as it will leave residue otherwise.

lucysmam · 09/05/2015 22:09

Interesting, thanks.

I have a creamy wash from Wilko atm - never looked at the ingredient list though. I'll have a look in the morning before I wash my face.

I think I'll invest in a cream cleanser when I finish this off. I'm trying to sort out my skin & maybe the washes I randomly pick up because they're easy in the shower aren't helping.

Cetaphil is very good and I prefer it to Liz Earle.

Nabootique · 09/05/2015 22:19

And yet Cetaphil contains SLS, which is a surfactant.

lucysmam · 09/05/2015 22:22

I have just twigged...surfactants like in washing up liquid?

OP posts:
Nabootique · 09/05/2015 22:26

That's the stuff.

southeastastra · 09/05/2015 22:26

if you want to try the liz earle lucys i can send you a sample, they send them when you order online as i have a spare.

lucysmam · 09/05/2015 22:29

Wow, the mind boggles...wonder what else is in there Confused

Nabootique · 09/05/2015 22:33

With Cetaphil, alcohol and parabens. Dermatologists recommend it for acne, but there seems to be a craze for it at the moment. I don't understand it and personally I wouldn't put it anywhere near my face!

lucysmam · 09/05/2015 22:37

I have no idea what to look for now then Confused

I usually go for a wash that I use in the morning over the sink and then on an evening in the shower to wash the day away.

Are Boots/superdrug cream cleansers worth a look? They're probably more my budget than anything branded (I think...haven't looked yet).

southeast, it's lovely of you to offer but I have a feeling a full sized bottle would be out of my budget.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/05/2015 22:39

The Superdrug Naturally Radiant range is v good, and often on offer so really cheap.

Nabootique · 09/05/2015 22:41

I agree with Remus That was the first non-foaming one I used and I still use it sometimes now.

Allie82 · 09/05/2015 22:42

I love cetaphil. It's completely sorted my skin out and left it balanced. Great stuff

Greenstone · 09/05/2015 22:43

I just use coconut oil and a hot cloth. I've really sensitive skin and it's much better since I ditched the foamy stuff.

ltk · 09/05/2015 22:45

I use a bar of pure vegetable soap and an eczema-friendly moisturiser. Doesn't strip my skin, or dry it out, or make it oily.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 09/05/2015 22:46

Superdrug Radiance Hot Cloth is great and always on v cheap offer. Massage into dry skin, wipe off with warm flannel, lovely.

lucysmam · 09/05/2015 22:46

Ah, I got Superdrug Clearly Youthful day serum the other day - Naturally Radiant wasn't on offer. I'll keep an eye out for that one on offer.

Doesn't coconut oil leave you, well, oily? I used it for my hair years ago, pre dp and kids, never thought it might be good for anything else.

OP posts:
MakeHayIsOrange · 09/05/2015 22:53

Coconut oil on your face is brilliant for many, but can cause breakouts in others. I have used it and love it (there are hundreds of other uses if you google!).
I won't share my beauty regime. I'm sure it would horrify you. But I don't use anything foamy because of the drying effect and general dodginess.

Nabootique · 09/05/2015 22:55

It depends on your skin type. I think coconut oil is not so good if you are acne prone. The Superdrug one suits most skin types.

lucysmam · 09/05/2015 22:55

MakeHay, you have to share now...I'm curious!

I will have a google about the coconut oil in the morning.
