Would you have botox

faiththeone · 07/05/2015 19:03

I have a few wrinkles coming and am considering following my friends down the botox route. Has anyone got any personal experiences of this treatment. Good, bad or indifferent.

Would I willingly have poisons injected into my face to be able to walk round with a scary frozen expression....

.....NO

BeccaMumsnet · 08/05/2015 16:35

Hi faiththeone - we're just going to move this over to a more appropriate topic so you can get the best response.

holmessweetholmes · 08/05/2015 17:10

Not in a million years.

Skinheadmermaid · 08/05/2015 17:13

Personally no. There are cosmetic procedures I would have done, but nothing to do with my face, as if anything went wrong it would be stuck like that for all to see.

PetiteBateau · 08/05/2015 17:28

No way, it is a horrendous idea

Notso · 08/05/2015 17:31

No way. I wouldn't want anyone to mess with my face.

What is your friends experiences of it?

Floisme · 08/05/2015 17:41

I'm not a fan of any cosmetic procedures but I think Botox is particularly pointless. Wrinkles, quite honestly, are a walk in the park compared to the other signs of ageing. It's the sagging and loss of definition that do the real damage.

ShatnersBassoon · 08/05/2015 17:44

No, everyone I care about knows how old I am. I'd only be trying to kid myself. I don't like the look it gives anyway.

holdyourown · 08/05/2015 17:53

I agree with the above - wearing your insecurities on your face! If it goes wrong/not how you want/makes your face look weird I'd regret it. Also there are many signs of ageing so it can look out of kilter. Just enjoy what you have and how young you look now Smile

EuphemiaCoxton · 08/05/2015 17:53

No.
People's eyebrows go all weird and pointy up in the middle.
And walking about with a shiny smooth forehead and a saggy chin is just silly.

cuntyMcCunterson · 08/05/2015 18:25

I would most definitely have Botox and I'm looking into getting it done soon. I don't have particularly bad wrinkles but they annoy me so I would like it done. If done carefully and by a professional the results can be subtle and not the mask like look that some celebrity's go for.
I would also like lip fillers but will try Botox first and see how I get on.
Could you speak with your friends and get their experiences and recommendations?

TheGruffal0 · 08/05/2015 18:39

My friend looks smooth and serene, but definitely not frozen, and if she hadn't told me I'd not have known anything was 'done'. I am in envy as I scowl habitually at my work all day with increasing crumplage and brow-fall as a result! Its not natural but neither is the computer at which I scowl.

BadcatBertram · 08/05/2015 18:46

I know 2 people who've had it done and they look great , not frozen or expressionless as at just really glowing with great skin. They've completely changed my view on the procedure and I may have it done in the future myself .

Stevie77 · 08/05/2015 18:58

Yes. My mum had it done a few times, never has she looked frozen or had wonky eyebrows.

EnormousDormouse · 08/05/2015 19:11

I've had it done once a couple of months ago and I'll have it done again. I have one huge off-centre frown line, and as soon as I get a hint of colour it causes a lovely white stripe up my face for the summer. I also have a facial scar that looks worse when I smile or frown or wrinkle my nose.

I do not have Spock brows. I saw some colleagues yesterday who haven't seen me for about 6 months and got several comments about how I looked 'great' and 'really relaxed'. I'm happy with that!

crassula · 08/05/2015 19:16

I would consider it if we knew the long- term implications, which I guess we won't for a while

Nolim · 08/05/2015 19:27

I would not

queenofthepirates · 08/05/2015 19:31

In a heartbeat! I already have regular chemical peels and smother myself in retinol a at the first sign of a crease. If you can afford it, why not look as good as you want to?

EthelDurant123 · 08/05/2015 19:36

No, but if it you feel the need, do it.

I am happy to look like a tortoise.

AnyFucker · 08/05/2015 19:37

no, it looks shit

PagingDrFaggot · 08/05/2015 19:41

Yes and I do , also have fillers too. The point of botox is it shouldn't be obvious , the people that look frozen and like waxwork dummies have crap practitioner ( or actually want to look like that , my friend is an aesthetic practitioner the frozen look is often asked for Confused) i can still move my face and I still have wrinkles they are just softer.

emmarowlands · 08/05/2015 19:45

Had it first time at 40 a month ago. V pleased with it

brunette123 · 08/05/2015 19:47

yes am having it tomorrow for the second time - the first time no one noticed and I just looked a bit more youthful and rested not frozen. I have a fringe so do not have forehead done, just my 11s and crows feet at side of eyes. Eyes definitely looked slightly lifted but not like spock just younger like they looked 20 years ago.
Each to their own - depends what is important to you - some people take the pill or hrt some of which are synthetic chemicals, some people choose to smoke. I respect people's choices and understand that it is not for everyone but I was very pleased last time.

DarkNavyBlue · 08/05/2015 19:52

Yep. It's great on frown lines.

It does not always look shit. I do not look like I've had botox, I just look a little less cross than I normally would.

emmarowlands · 08/05/2015 19:58

Let us know tomorrow how it goes brunette123!
