Can someone pleeeeeease help me find a shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair and an itchy flaky scalp?? I'm so fed up, I have tried so many and they either make my scalp sore or itch like mad and covered in flakes or they make my hair disgusting! Am currently trying the third variety from OGX because everyone seems to love them but they destroy my scalp and my hair! I don't want to spend a lot either. Am I asking too much??

Mane n tail do a colour version as well as a deep moisturising one. It works a treat on my hair and I've sensitive skin. Non experience about 4 for a good sized bottle.

Head and Shoulders for coloured hair?

I like the Loreal Ever Pure for coloured hair - not made my head itch so far. Sulphate free too.

DidgeDoolittle · 05/05/2015 22:12

Have you used the Dead Sea stuff from Holland and Barrett? I'm sorry I can't remember precise name.
They do a scalp mask for itchy scalps. It was fantastic on my itchy, dry scalp.

No real recommendations but I feel your pain - I have scalp psoriasis and my bathroom looks like a branch of Boots! Nothing works for more than a few weeks at a time then it starts to irritate or make my hair look horrible. I'd love to be able to buy a nice smelling shampoo instead of a medicated one! Head & Shoulders is the work of the devil and really makes my condition flare up. At the moment I'm alternating between Lush Soak'n'Float and Body Shop Ginger.

Indecisivejo · 06/05/2015 07:53

Thanks for the recs so far!
I have used every variety of head n shoulders they are all crap!
I have tried that stuff from holland n barratt aswell as the dr organic ranges, again were crap for me.
I used the body shop ginger shamp with the banana conditioner the longest and thought I was onto a winner but then it decided to stop working and made my hair n scalp a mess (tried goin back to it after a break but still no good) didn't like their rain forest range at all :(
Loreal ever pure also made my scalp really itchy as does their elvive range.
Not heard of mane and tail Confused
Recent tried Liz Earle and after first wash I thought it was amazing I loved everything about it, however it then decided to prove me wrong...Angry

There used to be a fantastic Loreal shampoo for itchy scalp in a blue bottle that was always recommended on MN but it has been discontinued and rebranded as Loreal men's anti dandruff shampoo in a black bottle with an orange lid- it is exactly the same and is FANTASTIC! Cured my dreadful scalp after 20 years of misery within a couple of washes. I alternate it with The Body Shop's Ginger shampoo.

I use Loreal colour protect conditioner in a red bottle - just on the ends, keep it away from the scalp.

RitaOrange · 06/05/2015 08:29

I think you need to see a dermatologist for some advice.
It doesn't sound like just an itchy scalp.

Indecisivejo · 06/05/2015 08:43

Is that mens loreal one ok for coloured hair though?? And how often do you alternate?

I haven't got time to see a dermatologist and if I'm honest I think they are overrated (for some things) if they had the answers to all of our concerns everybody would have perfect hair, scalp and skin etc but in truth they can only recommend products the same as anyone else and it doesn't mean the products are going to work. What really needs to happen is for beauty companies to stop putting aload of shit in their products! Rant over sorry Blush

Same thing here and head and shoulders makes 1000x worse! I'm using Phil Mitchell but it's pricey Blush

StuffedCrustPizza · 06/05/2015 08:51

I'm crying a little at that there. It's Pail Mitchell, of course Grin

StuffedCrustPizza · 06/05/2015 08:52

Paul* I'm leaving now Confused

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/05/2015 08:52

Yes, I colour my hair and it's fine, I use the Loreal shampoo maybe 3x a week and the ginger shampoo the rest of the time. The red Loreal conditioner is for coloured hair. Neither is harsh at all.

I can't tell you how bad my scalp used to be, as well as itchy it was red with sore bits, really awful.

Indecisivejo · 06/05/2015 08:59

GrinGrin at the Phil Mitchell I wouldn't use his shamp Grin
I have just returned my Paul Mitchell order of the tea tree and lavender or whatever it is for dry hair as it was packed full of parabens Angry
Just looked on boots website at that mens loreal one and realised I have already tried it ha ha ha it helped my scalp a little but made my hair awful even with conditioner.
I'm off to cry in the corner now Sad

Philip Kingsley for flaky scalp.

Avoid head and shoulders- have heard of people with very bad reactions to it.

Longer term, Aveda or Philip Kingsley are both without 'nasties'.

pinkfrocks · 06/05/2015 09:00

ps- neither is cheap but then they also last for months so overall it's not that bad value for having a good scalp. you can get trial sizes of the P Kingsley- travel sets for around £20 inc conditioner- look online John Lewis

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 06/05/2015 09:01

I use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner as I find that anything else makes my scalp itchy, lumpy and spotty (nice). Just the L'Oreal EverRiche one, in the gold tubes. They are really moisturising and gentle so they don't strip my hair at all. Ideal for my med/fine, washed daily, hair and my scalp is completely unaffected, which is bliss.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 06/05/2015 09:02

God, head & shoulders is vicious stuff.

Goldmandra · 06/05/2015 09:02

Oilatum Shampoo works for us when all else fails. You can buy it from Boots in tiny bottles that are quite expensive but it works as our last resort.

highlighta · 06/05/2015 09:04

I have the exact same problem OP. Yes I did find that Loreal anti dandruff (i didn't know you could still get it) is great for the itchiness, but its strips the colour badly, and its the smell of your hair after that I just cant get on with. It makes me feel nauseous as it like some chemically smell.

Another pretty good product, but also strips the colour sadly, is Paul Mitchells tea tree range. They have a treatment one as well which I have and is lovely - if you don't want colour in your hair.

So, having itchy scalp and colour i was fed up of redoing, I recently stumbled across John Frieda's full repair for colour damaged hair. This so far is the only one that doesn't make my flaking all the time, doesn't strip the colour like the rest and makes my hair manageable.

But honestly think its trial and error sadly to find the right one. My hair always loved V05 and I don't know what they did to it over the past few years and I cannot even look at a bottle without itching....

My bathroom also looks like a blimming hair aisle of the chemists. Over time they are dwindling down with the dc and dh using up the remnants of all the trials. And we are talking salon shampoos here aswell Shock

coldofhands · 06/05/2015 09:06

Try sulphate and silicone free - that saved my scalp. Loreal ever pure is lovely

LtheWife · 06/05/2015 09:06

Eucerin do a leave in scalp treatment which is supposed to be good (a shampoo too but don't know how good that would be for coloured hair). Boots also sell their own sensitive range for dry, itchy scalps as part of their boots expert range, shampoo, conditioner and scalp treatment.

There are prescription only treatments too but you'd need to see a GP/dermatologist. They're likely to care more about your scalp than your coloured hair though. Having said that, some conditions need to be treated with tablets rather than topical treatments so would have no effect on colour.

highlighta · 06/05/2015 09:07

Sorry I cross posted, I see you sent back the PM. Mine isn't lavender though. Its a green bottle called Tea Tree Hair and Scalp. Maybe not helpful that I am not actually in UK so perhaps ours is a little different here...

SnotQueen · 06/05/2015 09:12

I used to use Greenpeople shampoo - it's pretty natural (well they market it as that).
Sounds like you're reacting to something - I would try to go as simple as possible.
