Hand cream recommendation.

I've just finished the tube of hand cream by the sink. Since my last birthday, I've gone through a tube of Laura Ashley, a tin from Joules and currently have a large tube of Soap & Glory 'hand food' by my bed. I need some recommendations for my next purchase!
It needs to be very effective, my hands get very dry and scaly, and the skin splits if I neglect my moisturising routine. However, I'm a sucker for a gorgeous fragrance and something that will look very stylish next to the sink!
Anybody care to share any miracle finds? Thanks.

Aveeno hand cream, it's not glam or fragranced but it sorted out my completely cracked and bleeding hands after two years of trying everything else. It is a miracle cream.

Could you not have a fancier one by the sink and this in your bag/by sink to put on before rubber gloves as this makes hands super soft.

CaptainTripps · 03/05/2015 23:34

Nothing will give you the panacea for dry and scaly hands. I've tried everything. But go for the thickest ones. Best for me is castor oil, Burt's bees handcream and sudo thingy for nappies but the white bits clog up my skin splits. Buy cheap gloves to place over hands for overnight.

Good luck oh fellow sufferer.

justtheonethen · 03/05/2015 23:34

If money no issue I really like neals yard hand creams for a fancy one

Sleepyfergus · 03/05/2015 23:37

I second Aveeno. Not sexy or stylish or fragranced, but the best moisturiser ever in my opinion. In fact, I love their general body lotion too, much better than anything else I've come across.

TobikkoRoll · 03/05/2015 23:38

All time fave is L'Occitane's shea butter hand cream (foot version is also a great foot cream).

Otherwise Jurlique lavender hand cream, Burt's Bees hand salve, Clarins hand and nail cream or (cheapest) Garnier hand repair (red tube) cream are the ones we have in our house.

justtheonethen · 03/05/2015 23:43

captain please try Aveeno, it truly has been the solution for my hands which were swollen and cracked for years, made me self conscious and miserable and nothing helped. Aveeno has totally sorted them out. They never crack any more and are so much softer. It took a month or so but I can't recommend it highly enough

[http://m.kiehls.co.uk/gift-sets/by-category/customizable-gifting/ultimate-strength-hand-salve Kiehls]. I have tried all of the others, none of them have a patch on this. Well worth the money.
I have a very physical manual job, lots of hand washing and an outdoor lifestyle.
Before I found this stuff my hands were split and sore for 6 10 months of the year and ugly. Now they look relatively feminine(!) and are not painful.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/05/2015 23:44

This is amazing stuff. And this is cheaper and available in Boots.

And one of the magazines currently has a freebie of the Neals Yard one - but don't get the geranium because it is horrible!

Bad link posting on my phone sorry

cuntyMcCunterson · 03/05/2015 23:45

Another vote for l'occitaine. It really does work, my hand are washed about 30 times a day at work and I use alcohol gel too along with other household cleaners and this keeps them really soft and hydrated

ShebaQueen · 03/05/2015 23:46

I agree with Tobikko, love, love, love L'Occitane shea butter. The tube is super stylish too although I'd buy it even if it wasn't Smile

StainlessSteelCat · 03/05/2015 23:52

I never thought I'd ever be posting a recommendation on S&B - there's hope for us all!

www.crabtree-evelyn.co.uk/collections/gardeners/gardeners-hand-therapy-100g-81090.html Gorgeous and effective.

TheSpottedZebra · 03/05/2015 23:53

I think the best k e is the one that you will use most often. So combining efficacy with ease of use, would be neutron fast absorbing one, that comes with the pump.

Non pump ones I like are the L'Occitane shea butter, body shop hemp, and Aveda hand relief (fnarr)

TheSpottedZebra · 03/05/2015 23:54

Neutrogena obvs, not neutron.

LakeFlyPie · 03/05/2015 23:56

Even less glamorous than Aveeno (which I also rate highly) is Aldi's hand cream (5% urea). Really works wonders on my dry, cracked hands (NHS employed frequent hand washer)

TheSpottedZebra · 04/05/2015 00:09

I bought aldi's urea foot cream the other day. Honks of cat wee. What is urea anyway, please tell me that the clue is not in the name...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/05/2015 00:14

Hand Relief is lovely and I rate it v highly - but the Aveeno and La Roche Posay ones are better, and much cheaper.

Carpaccio · 04/05/2015 00:43

My dad suffers from psoriasis and gets very dry hands where the skin cracks and bleeds. It gets worse when he washes his hands loads. I get dry hands with cracking skin too, but nowhere as bad as my dad.

He has been using the Avene cold cream hand cream for years and he really rates this (I like it too but I dislike the smell), but he used my La Roche-Posay Cicaplast hand cream over Christmas and he absolutely loved it. It might not look fancy or smell of anything, but it works so well and seems to help healing the cracks in the skin a bit quicker than normal hand creams.

Avene has a Cicalfate hand cream which is similar to the Cicaplast one, but I think the Cicaplast one is much nicer and more moisturising.

stripytees · 04/05/2015 08:05

Body Shop hemp hand cream. Nothing else works like it, every time I try something else my hands get try and I need to go to the Body Shop for more.

Gem124 · 04/05/2015 09:46

Neutrogena fast absorbing hand cream is my saving grace. Used to have hands that cracked and bled for years till I started using this... And only at night it's that good. And comes in a pump bottle that I like :-)

pinkyredrose · 04/05/2015 09:54

L'occitane shea butter! It really is incredible and the tube looks v stylish tooSmile

I get mine on Ebay cheaper than in the shop.

Pancakeflipper · 04/05/2015 09:57

Body shop Hemp. Stinks but is heavy duty (and I know several farmers who use it).

I also like Clarins. Not fond of the smell but makes my nails grow.

Bostonpj · 04/05/2015 10:05

Another vote for Boidy Shop Hemp - it stinks but works really well for my poor scaly dry hands.

MannUp · 04/05/2015 10:08

I had the worst dry hands ever - cracks, blisters etc and NOTHING worked until I found O'Keeffes Working Hands which cured them in a week. You can get it on amazon or DIY stores - it's a miracle!
