Is there such a thing as a comfy bra?

Jellypudmum · 25/04/2015 20:59

I've been fitted ( correctly) but despite this, never seem to find a truly comfortable bra. Love the feel of non wired but at 40D there just isn't enough support. Is there anything out there with the feel of non wired but with good support?

I suppose it depends on your shape, but I wear Prima Donna bras and they are blissfully comfortable for me. But at over seventy quid a pop they bloody should be. I am a 32G in this make.

woofsaidtimmy · 25/04/2015 21:16

I like these: www.marksandspencer.com/2-pack-high-impact-eco-underwired-sports-a-g-bras/p/p22139588

Good everyday bra for bigger norks. Also the wider straps and sides look smoother under clothes.

AnythingNotEverything · 25/04/2015 21:22

Yes. I'm currently a 34j and really comfy. A bit itchy under the back band after 13 hours, but I don't rush to take it off like some women apparently do.

Where have you been fitted?

Wildernessrock · 25/04/2015 21:26

I don't think there is- I only wear them when necessary.

dementedpixie · 25/04/2015 21:27

Where were you measured? are you sure of your size?

PoshPenny · 25/04/2015 21:32

Mine are comparable size wise with yours and I go for the m and s total support non wired for every day, which does a good job of keeping them up above my belly button ??

Branleuse · 25/04/2015 21:43

Are you really sure youre a 40D?

treaclesoda · 25/04/2015 21:47

Yes, I've had loads of really comfortable bras over the years. But have had some horrors as well. Trial and error really.

piggychops · 25/04/2015 21:50

If you got measured at M&S it'll be way off.
Measure firmly under boobs, that's your band size.
Bend over to 90 degrees and let boobs hang. Measure lightly.
Post results on here and the bra ladies will help. Smile

Jellypudmum · 25/04/2015 22:03

I was measured at a specialist bra shop in my local town. They are renowned for accuracy and the bras I tried on there fitted really well but the range was not very big ( lots of laced trimmed numbers)!

AnythingNotEverything · 25/04/2015 22:05

What dress size are you? 40D isn't big - I wonder if they've added inches to your back size and you're actually more like a 36f/g.

piggychops · 25/04/2015 22:14

Post your numbers OP . It will be worth it. Wink

CelticPromise · 25/04/2015 22:22

I didn't find a comfy bra until I found my proper size. Now I'm more comfy with one than without one. A true 40D would be small boobs on a large frame, which isn't that common.

WhereYouLeftIt · 25/04/2015 22:32

I find this M&S Rosie for Autograph bra extremely comfortable!

Although Bravissimo measured me as G-cup (and I bought many well-fitting bras from them) I find an M&S E-cup is best, so you might want to try of a few cup sizes yourself just to check.

GunShotResidue · 25/04/2015 22:55

I've given up on finding a comfy bra. My current one hasn't made me bleed yet which is as good as I think I'll ever manage!

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 25/04/2015 23:12

GunShot that's really sad! What are your measurements - I'm sure we can help you find something comfy Smile

goodasitgets · 26/04/2015 07:45

A lot depends on your boob shape too. I wear ewa michalak a lot, usually the padded S shape. So comfy as they're not high cut under the arms

Marmaladybird · 26/04/2015 08:04

Ultimo are brilliant for me. Sounds like you need to be measured, your bra shouldn't be so uncomfortable.

GunShotResidue · 26/04/2015 18:51

closer I've used the bra intervention way and came up with 30j, which I'm pretty sure is right, but my ribcage is fairly narrow so the wire always ends on my back and rubs badly. They're always too high under my armpit too. I'm wearing a cleo that I was recommended on here and it's the best so far but still not great!

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 26/04/2015 19:35

If the wire is ending up under your arms the cup is too big and / or the style isn't the right shape for you

GunShotResidue · 26/04/2015 19:55

I measure 30 and 46 leaning over if that helps! It seems to me most 30 bras use the same size cups from a bigger back size but shorten the back, so that the front of the bra is longer than the back, if that makes sense!

Sorry to hijack OP!

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 26/04/2015 20:00

I have been wearing sainsburys tu smoothing bra as a sleep bra. If you genuinely are a d cup they might be supportive enough for you. They are like a crop top with extra stretchy bits where your boobs go. Lots of colours and only £6 each.

I'm a 34h so not supportive enough to wear in the day for me. Well unless I'm not going out then I wear them at home as so comfortable.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/04/2015 20:06

Gunshot it's a common problem in the large cup small band combos. At some point wire width just goes crazy. Cleo are the best UK brand I've found. The narrowest wires are found in the polish brands Ewa Michalak and Comexim. Personally I prefer Ewa - I'm a particular fan of their S shape. Now, their standard range stops at a GG in a 30 band (they do customs though, which are not returnable) but goes much higher in a 32. As their customs are non returnable I'd probably suggest trying say a 32HH and J (cups run a tad small) which is your sister size and a cup up to see if they would work for you. Unfortunately this will mean doing a return to Poland (cost me about £7 in postage last time!) but at least you wouldn't be blind ordering a custom non returnable bra IYSWIM. They do also run a bit snug in the band so a 32 might actually work. The SM styles are especially snug so I would actually suggest a 32 in them unless you are a very small 30/borderline 28 normally.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/04/2015 20:08

30/46 would suggest a starting size of 30KK btw - but at larger cup sizes the measurement does become a little less reliable, and if your breasts are soft it can over estimate a little. Apart from feeling too wide, how are the cups on your cleo (which one btw?) when you scoop?

GunShotResidue · 26/04/2015 22:27

Cleo Marcie in raspberry (I think it was recalled in another colour). It's ok, the top of the cup is a little baggy. Sometimes the wire is a few cm below where I think it should be at the front, but putting it when I think it should be it digs in under the armpit and seems too high at the back. Maybe I'm just a really weird shape!

I'm hoping to lose a few stone, I might splash out on a custom one after!
