Two pairs of blue sandals - which shall I keep?

Having searched fruitlessly since last summer for a nice pair of blue/navy sandals for work (apparently as rare as hen's teeth) , suddenly two pairs come along at once.... both purchased from M&S during this week's 20% off day..... So which pair shall I keep?

The brief - they're for work (office, not super-smart, think separates/skirts/trousers), I have very wide feet and can't wear anything high or strappy.

These or these? The first pair I think look more "elegant". I like the ankle strap and colour of the second pair, but am not sure about the blocky heel.... Both are extremely comfortable.

What do the stylish MN jury think? Which to keep, which to return...

What's the rest of your style? The second pair would look good with a kind of vintagey vibe, otherwise they could go granny.

ElizabethHoover · 23/04/2015 22:04

NONO NO to one

Swimmingwithsharks · 23/04/2015 22:13

No to 1. Yes yes to 2.

cece · 23/04/2015 22:15

I like the second pair. The first ones are a bit like my mum wears.

clippityclop · 23/04/2015 22:19

Another vote for the second pair. The heel is more blocky but that means that it'll give you better support and be comfier than the first pair. Have a look on the Clark's website, think I saw navy there.

frankietwospots · 23/04/2015 22:21

Definitely the second pair. I would expect the first pair to be worn with wrinkly tan tights.

polyhymnia · 23/04/2015 22:22

Neither are my personal taste but 2 on balance. Think you could do better though

InQuiteAPickle · 23/04/2015 22:25

I was coming on to say I like the first pair (although I like the second as well) but I see I'm in the minority.

MrsGuyGarvey · 23/04/2015 22:26

No to the first pair, my Mum wouldn't wear those and she's 68. The second pair I'd only buy if there really wasn't anyth better.

CointreauVersial · 23/04/2015 22:33

Oh blimey, originally I slightly preferred the first pair (am 48, not 68, FYI....) but you're putting me off them now .

DH prefers the second ones please don't tell him MN agrees with him

I think if you aren't wearing the second pair in a retro sort of way then they're both pretty frumpy.

Have you seen these? Or would you maybe just wear tan instead?

Cv. I agree both v granny ish

BallroomWithNoBalls · 23/04/2015 22:34

Erk. They are both very... not very stylish. I will be accused of ageism if I say more.

How about these ?

cece · 23/04/2015 22:36

I am the same age as you and prefer these

SouthWestmom · 23/04/2015 22:38

Well, I think they are a bit frumpy and the sort of thing you'd wear with an A line denim skirt in a bad way.
But if you need comfortable sandals that aren't so hideous anyone would fall over in horror.

CointreauVersial · 23/04/2015 22:38

Noooo ... Where were all these lovely blue sandals when I was looking for them??

Must must must be comfy, though (I've had it with uncomfortable shoes). They may be frumpsville but both M&S pairs are heavenly to wear.

polyhymnia · 23/04/2015 22:40

Closer to mrsGuy's mum's age than yours and I wouldn't wear them because too frumpy. Sorry it's all very much a personal thing.

CointreauVersial · 23/04/2015 22:43

Rogan, Cece, really like your suggestions.... I do love a wedge.

Ballroom... hmm... to me they look frumpy, but I know Tamaris fit nicely.

But look at the prices, people! My M&S monstrosities beauties were only £36.

Loads on here too.

mowglik · 23/04/2015 22:52

I find the second ones really frumpy and the first ones look like they could be edgy with the right gear.. clearly got it all wrong judging by the responses!

AlwaysOneMissing · 23/04/2015 22:53

Neither are that nice (sorry) but I prefer the first pair.
But you'll have to be careful not to wear clothes that are too frumpy or it'll be a one way ticket to frumpington.

cece · 23/04/2015 23:00

What about these?

cece · 23/04/2015 23:02

Bargain

CointreauVersial · 23/04/2015 23:16

Thanks Cece.

Never thought about slingbacks; I'm worried they wouldn't stay on my feet.

The Dotty P ones are lovely, but I know that skinny front strap will be like cheese wire on my bunions (bitter experience).
