Any options on this product?

I starting a new skincare routine (previous thread running) and wonder if I should start with a acid toner or shall I introduce it in a few weeks?

Are you looking at the radiance one or the clarifying one? I've not used either but happy to have a look at the ingredients. I've not heard much about Burt's Bees on the toner front. What is your skin type?

Nabootique · 21/04/2015 08:26

Sorry, just had another look and guessing you mean the clarifying one as the other doesn't contain acid! I'd say it's maybe a bit weak, although might be alright for starting out on. What I don't like it that alcohol denat is high up on the ingredients list. I'd say most acid toners, but not all, contain some alcohol, but that is quite a lot as it's the second ingredient on the list. Could be a bit drying, but depends on your skin type. I use a La Roche Posay one sometimes that is alcohol heavy and it's okay for me, but my skin tends to be on the oily side.

Stinkersmum · 21/04/2015 08:27

Try Pixi Glow Tonic. I'm a toner fiend and so far it's my absolute favourite.

NCtotalkaboutsex · 21/04/2015 13:31

Thanks I have dry dehydrated skin so the idea of using a acid toner is a little scary but I'm going to give it a go! I'm 35 and I need to actually sort my skin out and find a routine that actually works for me.

Through research I hear the REN one is good and also suited to my skin type so I might pick that up this weekend to try

I have dry, dehydrated skin and use REN. Beauty Expert have regular promotions so I tend to bulk buy from there.

Blue Orchid oil is brilliant for our type of skin as a facial oil btw.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 21/04/2015 13:38

REN is pretty good but Pixi Glow is amazeballs. It's not drying. Mind you, REN is available in M&S which is a big plus!

You could also try FAB Facial Radiance pads, which are very gentle but effective.

/acid toner obsessive

Nabootique · 21/04/2015 13:44

If you mean the REN Clarimatte one it's recently been reformulated and is now not as good, apparently. If you are dry and dehydrated then glycolic is a better bet for you than salycilic.

Nabootique · 21/04/2015 13:44

heyheyheyGoodbye's recommendations are glycolic Smile

CiderwithBuda · 21/04/2015 13:44

REN has changed the formulation and isn't as good apparently.

There is a great three which I have tried to link to but keep failing - it's in S&B and called "Had my first your skin looks amazing" - loads of info on there.

CiderwithBuda · 21/04/2015 13:45

Cross posted!

Quitelikely · 21/04/2015 13:49

What do these toners do? I have Rosacea (sic?)

Will they help with that or make it worse

Nabootique · 21/04/2015 14:01

Quitelikely They're for exfoliation, unblocking pores, removing dead skin build up, resurfacing. You can use one but should avoid ones containing alcohol, probably. The Pixiglow mentioned up thread is alcohol free and has no harsh ingredients.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 21/04/2015 14:03

Naboo and Cider it's interesting you say that - I haven't used it since they reformulated it, as my bottle ran out just as I read on Caroline Hirons' blog that the new formula wasn't likely to be as good. But then I seem to recall they emailed her saying some particular thing was still in there...anyway, it's interesting to hear other people say the same thing!

Quite they are a way of exfoliating without a scrub, in simple terms. You can get stronger ones but all the ones mentioned here are safe for most people to use twice a day, after cleansing but before any serums or moisturisers.

I'll be honest, I was really skeptical at first but they have made a massive difference in my skin. I have old acne scars and tend towards blackheads and they've made both of them almost disappear.

I don't know much about rosacea (sorry!) but I have read arguments both for and against using acid toners when you have it. I would recommend starting with something very gentle and not too pricey - like the FAB pads - and see how you get on. But I am not a skincare expert at all!

Nabootique · 21/04/2015 14:09

Heyhey I'm sure it was something like the proper acid had been taken out and replaced with pineapple extract, which is acidic, but just barely. I'll see if I can find the thing...

Nabootique · 21/04/2015 14:14

Found it! Caroline said the lactic acid was removed and replaced with pineapple extract. A reader said they had one that still had lactic acid listed on the ingredients, but CH said as it had only just happened they probably had older stock. Definitely no lactic acid listed in the ingredients on the REN website, but it does have willow bark extract, which contains a natural BHAs, including salycilic acid.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 21/04/2015 14:19

Oooh Nabootique yes that was it. Pineapple juice indeed Hmm bring on the strong stuff, I say Grin

CremeDeSudo · 21/04/2015 14:39

When was that change made to the Clarimatte?? I only bought mine a couple of months ago!

Nabootique · 21/04/2015 14:49

Creme I'm not sure. CH mentioned it on her blog a couple of weeks ago. I guess shops can have stock for months though.

Quitelikely · 21/04/2015 14:52

Nabootique you seem to have lots of knowledge Smile so I was wondering if you could recommend a spf to wear everyday and at what point do I apply it in the day ?

Before all other products?

Flowers
Nabootique · 21/04/2015 15:01

I don't use a separate SPF day to day, but my foundation has SPF 25, and then I'd just use a separate one and no make up if sitting out in the sun. However, my understanding with a separate one is that it should go between moisturiser and make up. People on the Caroline Hiron's thread on here have spoken highly of Clinique City Block and Anthelios (which I think you can get in Boots). If you're very fair I think you're better off with a separate one as the coverage from SPF make up/moisturisers can be patchy if you don't apply enough/apply it everywhere.

CiderwithBuda · 21/04/2015 15:09

Heliocare is another good brand of sunscreen. I bought it last year from doctor I went to for Botox and fillers. It's available on Amazon and ice just ordered one that is factor 50 and suitable for those who have had peels or microdermabrasion. I have a monthly CACI facial which includes microdermabrasion so figure that will be good for me. And probably for those of you issuing retinol etc.

Lovewearingjeans · 21/04/2015 15:24

Would recommend Pixiwoo glow tonic too. Skin seems much more even. Also Clinique City Blick SPF 40. I have easily blocked pores, and this hasn't caused spots.

Cookie51 · 22/04/2015 18:10

Anyone know who stocks Pixi products? Used to buy in Boots North London but since I moved haven't seen anywhere apart from online?

sergeantmajor · 22/04/2015 19:31

Following with interest. Would like to give the Pixi Glow a whirl if anyone knows where to buy online...?

Snoozy1 · 22/04/2015 19:49

Feelunique and Beautybay both sell Pixi.
