In my 50s and would like to put an oil on my face at night (maybe not every night) for general beautifying purposes. I'm thinking maybe almond or rapeseed? >

Coconut!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/04/2015 21:45

Aldi have their Lacuna face oil on the Special Buys this Sunday (£3.99 dry/sensitive)

Naicecuppatea · 17/04/2015 22:09

Almond oil is very nice.

SunshineAndShadows · 17/04/2015 22:13

Rose hip oil from smazon - about 8 quid s bottle, lasts ages, sinks in and non-greasy after about 6-8 mins and packed with vitamins C and E

canny1234 · 17/04/2015 22:21

I use wheatgerm with a few drops of rose and geranium essential oils.I have really sensitive allergic skin and I find this regime pretty soothing.

HelenF350 · 17/04/2015 22:36

70isalimit have you tried the Lacura oil? Is it any good? I was considering getting some at the weekend as my skin has gone very, very dry (almost 30 weeks pregnant).

hugoagogo · 17/04/2015 23:02

Almond oil is brilliant, sainsburys do it next to the olive oil for about £1.50.

Surprisingly not that greasy and lovely as at night as a moisturiser or to remove eye make up.

I use it on my body to and it works a treat and doesn't smell.

burnishedsilver · 17/04/2015 23:06

Almond, definately.

hedwig2001 · 18/04/2015 11:46

I have used the Lacura oil (the dry skin one). It is really nice and light.

MeganChips · 18/04/2015 15:22

Superdrug vitamin e facial oil - it's the best £2.99 I've ever spent.

Zazzabeans · 18/04/2015 21:49

I have been using organic coconut cooking oil from Asda, it's £5.99 and worth every penny, use it for everything !! As a moisturiser , in the bath, as a hair mask, on my feet, lip balm, the list is endless ,,, it's also very good to add to a stir fry !

MalloryTowels · 18/04/2015 22:05

Superdrug vitamin e is amazing. It's transformed my skin and smells gorgeous. So much better than some much dearer oils

DrankSangriaInThePark · 18/04/2015 22:10

Any really! (apart from the Spry Crisp and dry from the Asda types!)
Naissance on Amazon do loads and they are much cheaper than the 'branded' ones.
Rosehip, Argan, Avocado, Apricot kernal....depends on your skin. I am 49 and rosehip isn't 'enough' somehow for me. My absolute favourite is Neals Yard frankincense.
Do read the ingredients though, some of the blends have stuff in that I don't care for.

DragonsCanHop · 18/04/2015 22:13

Zazza do you buy it in a solid or liquid form? I'm very interested

dustdragon · 19/04/2015 03:07

Agree with using Amazon to buy unbranded organic oils. I use Rosehip and sometimes Argan oil daily, and cleanse using the hot cloth method with Castor oil and Argan oil. A 100ml bottle will last for several months and fine lines and wrinkles have diminished and my skin is much more hydrated. Have also tried Camellia which I didn't work as well and left me with open pores.

A decent 100ml bottle of Argan Oil on Amazon is around £10, but that will last several months at least, you only need a few drops.

Zazzabeans · 19/04/2015 09:12

dragons it is in solid form, but it turns to oil within seconds of touching it.
It is lovely and has many uses :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 09:43

I liked the Superdrug Vitamin E to begin with but then found it made my face really dry and tight.

Am going to give almond oil a try, I think. Is it really okay to just use the cooking one?

hugoagogo · 19/04/2015 10:00

I used to buy the tiny bottles of almond oil from the chemist, but switched to sainsburys cooking oil: saved loads and haven't noticed any difference.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 19/04/2015 13:08

The Superdrug 'Vit E' oil's main ingredient listed is paraffinum, so not nice (imo) and explains the cheapness. (I've got a bottle languishing in the cupboard from when everyone started raving about the range but it's si full of synthetic stuff and chemicals I didn't really use it.)

The ingredients might be why it doesn't agree with everyone. I think it's basically baby oil with a few other things in it to justify the 'vit E' buzzword on the label.

I paid about £4 for 50ml of organic rosehip and iirc £6 for organic argan. (from Amazon)

AggyMoo · 19/04/2015 13:15

You can get a big bottle of almond oil fairly cheaply in most health food shops. I bought one a year ago and its still two thirds full. Holland & Barrett do half price sales online all the time.

Might have to experiment, though. My face loves almond oil, but hates olive oil (makes it red) and coconut oil (makes it spotty - although works well on the rest of my body).

SwingingBalls · 19/04/2015 13:26

Aggy I've been using coconut oil for a few weeks and have started experiencing red eczema type patches on my face. It's only just occurred to me that the oil could be the cause Blush

I'm going to try the almond oil and see how I get on.

missmartha · 19/04/2015 13:42

Almond oil or coconut oil are good. Get them in an Asian shop if possible. They have them in the beauty products section in my local Asian shop and are fab and very cheap.

The coconut oil becomes liquid in a second or two, literally.

AmelieinOz · 20/04/2015 08:34

I swear by Rosehip oil. Three drops mixed with Physiogel (or any moisturizer you want). Baby skin.

Lottapianos · 20/04/2015 10:47

I use olive oil out of my kitchen cupboard - dry and dehydrated skin. I found that almond oil left my skin feeling tight and coconut oil made my eyes itchy. Everyone is different so unfortunately you do have to try a few before you find one that works for you
