Dry skin - any good body moisturisers or is is just water needed?

So, I'm getting really dry skin on my body, especially my arms and legs. Is it really just dehydration or are there some good products out there of any description worth using. I hate drinking water - I drink coffee!

Bugger it's gonna be water and exercise isn't it? My face is fine, btw, it is just my body.

I have been putting bio oil on damp , post shower , skin. It is making a huge difference.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 13/04/2015 20:19

Omega oil supplements make a noticeable difference to my dry skin, both face and body. And yes to water!

Mbear · 13/04/2015 20:22

Boooooo to water! It's just so dull to drink! But I shall check out the suggestions as skin is as rough as a badgers arse at the mo Grin

Thank you

Definitely take essential oils, don't have showers/baths too hot, moisture afterwards, use a gentle organic slow free shower gel, turn off the central heating and drink fluids- try fizzy water flavoured with a slice of lemon and some ice if you don't like it plain?

Babymamamama · 13/04/2015 20:29

Palmers cocoa butter. Really works. And not pricey.

Wolfiefan · 13/04/2015 20:33

Coconut oil is lovely. (Apply after a shower.)

Lardylassnomore · 13/04/2015 20:38

Aveeno is amazing

Mbear · 13/04/2015 20:41

DH will go nuts with all the new products appearing in the bathroom, but my skin on my shins is feeling tight and a little sore, so think worth trying.

Are the essential oils hard tablets or liquid capsules? And liking the fizzy water and lemon idea. I have just taken up cycling as I have changed jobs and now commuting to work on my bike - fruit in my water will increase my five a day too!

Seriously I would eat like a teenager if dh didn't intervene on a regular basis.

Having written all that down, I think an entire overhaul is needed. Damn!

Is aveeno the oat one? When I was pregnant I did the oats in tights and run the bath water through it. That was lovely Smile

A second vote here for Aveeno. I use the body lotion and the effect lasts all day, whereas with other body lotions and oils, my skin always seems dry again by the evening.

LoadsaBlusher · 13/04/2015 22:13

Was coming on to say Aveeno too
I usually prefer something more scented / fragrant but it really does the job on dry post winter skin.

Allie82 · 13/04/2015 22:48

I suffer with dry itchy skin on my body and drinking water makes no difference. What works for me is not having too many scorching hot showers or baths and using the aveeno daily lotion each morning. Occasinally I use a bit of oilatum in my bath. I can really tell the difference when I stick to this routine x

Thisishowyoudisappear · 13/04/2015 22:50

I really rate Palmer's and Aveeno. Exfoliate first. Also eat avocados and nuts.

Mbear · 14/04/2015 07:01

Actually the too hot a shower thing might be worth me thinking about, DH has the water very hot so wondering if I don't turn it down enough.

Allie82 - water made no difference, I think I love you a little!! However, I shall try to drink some more as I really drink very little, but don't think I'll jump straight to the 2 litres a day at this point.

I used to drink loads of water (no tea or coffee either), now hardly drink any. Skin is no different.
Mine isn't especially bothersome and I'm lazy but I recently disckvered Burt's Bees sugar scrub, which is gorgeous and the effects last for days.

stilllovingmysleep · 14/04/2015 07:46

The best body moisturiser I've found (and have been using for years) is Kiehl's creme de corps. Even though on the pricey side, it comes in a huge bottle & lasts for ages. A little goes a long way. Really makes a massive difference for dry skin.

sooperdooper · 14/04/2015 07:49

I sometimes use oilatum in the shower, or E45 cream is good too - drinking water makes no difference whatsoever to my skin being dry

SomedayMyPrinceWillCome · 14/04/2015 07:58

Oilatum shower gel is like a miracle!

Mbear · 14/04/2015 08:42

Oh my dm uses the Keihls one (cream of the dead she calls it!) however I do know it's price - but I do have £120 sat on a HoF gift card so they might sell it.

We used to use Burts bees on ds, so that might be worth trying too. Am off into town in a bit so will see what I can purchase! So much to try Grin Grin Grin

Palmers here too. I use the oil in cold weather as it doesn't make you shiver applying it! My skin is soft for days after. Just moved on to Palmers cocoa butter natural bronze ready for the nicer weather.

CandyApocalypse · 14/04/2015 09:02

I have very dry skin despite drinking lots of water and I have recently switched to Aveeno. It has worked wonders on my dry, sensitive skin. I have also used Palmers in the past which is also good.

avagosling · 14/04/2015 12:34

Have you tried Shea Butter? It's very nourishing for dry skin

macnab · 14/04/2015 12:53

another vote for Aveeno. Its fantastic stuff.

Shonajay · 14/04/2015 12:58

I hate using body moisturiser as I'm all sticky afterwards. I've recently discovered that newly advertised spray on stuff, which really works and also feels moisturising for a good 24 hours afterwards. It comes in green yellow and brow bottles but I can't for the life of me remind myself of the brand- it's £4.99 in my supermarket.

Shonajay · 14/04/2015 12:59

Aveeno IS fabulous, I use it on my face.
