Makeup brushes

Hello all, I'm looking for some recommendations for makeup brushes. I want a decent set of face brushes (have loads of eye ones), there are that many I don't know where to start. I know real techniques brushes are popular but I'm not really sold on them after buying their eyeshadow brushes . Tia

I honestly don't know what to think about brushes.
I have bought a real techniques foundation one for £9.99, and although it's good, I can't help but think that it's not much different to the Primark one I've had a few times, for £1!
I've heard Clinique Bronzer brush is good so if they do any other brushes, they may be worth a try.
I'm not willing to buy into MAC brushes or any other brands that's mega expensive, not knowing whether they'll be any good for me or not!
Good luck

Thanks rl20 that's why I'm looking for recommendations I'm willing to spend on them but want to make sure they are worth the money I really wasn't impressed with the real techniques ones.

I know they're very expensive but personally Zoeva brushes have been the best investment ever. They even have a vegan section if you don't want to use natural hairs.

The Mac #239 is a really great eye shadow brush. For others, I would take alternatives but this is my fave - makes even hard to work with eye shadows a breeze. I also have a MUFE lip brush that I love but the MAC brush is my all-time favorite.

Ecotools is a popular cheaper alternative for brush sets.

Zoeva.

They're amazing, cheap and arrive super quick even though they're based in Germany.

I've stopped using my MAC brushes since discovering them.

ScooseIsLoose · 13/04/2015 19:14

I will check out the zoeva brushes thanks for the recommendations Grin

There's a brush set with loads of different brushes in a lovely leather effect case on eBay for around £8, the brushes are fab, loads of them and I use them in my salon to do make up. Highly recommended!

My dd orderded some of ebay, they came from China i think. They were so cheap i was not expecting much but they are quite good and soft.

ScooseIsLoose · 13/04/2015 19:29

Ooh thanks I will look those up too Grin

YY to Zoeva. The rose gold kit has everything you need for a full face of makeup in it and it's great! I have that kit and a beauty blender, and gave my Real Techniques and Sigma brushes away but I enjoyed both brands when I was using them. Mac are overpriced by a long way.

FrugalFashionista · 13/04/2015 19:35

Just adding some hype to #239 - if Temptalia can do everything with just this one brush... Wink

LtheWife · 13/04/2015 21:37

Whenever I've gone to IMATS the Crown brush stall is always busy. I don't have any of their foundation brushes but I have quite a few of the rest of their range in my kit. www.crownbrush.co.uk

Ecotools - I have about 10 of their brushes, all are decent quality
I was also pleasantly surprised with eye brushes from Topshop

Allie82 · 13/04/2015 22:54

I'm not sold on RT eye brushes either but their buffing brush is fantastic. I think the expert face brush is pretty similar, maybe slightly smaller, if not I would suggest Mac or if you know anyone going to the states soon then grab some sephora ones! They are great!

Enjoyingtheattention · 13/04/2015 22:58

Zoeva all the way. So much cheaper than MAC and great quality - brushes don't shed and come in lovely little pouches which are handy for travel. Order online, very quick and efficient delivery from Germany.

frankietwospots · 13/04/2015 23:02

Which Zoeva brushes would be the key ones do people think?

StayGoldPonyBoy · 13/04/2015 23:53

Frankie Definitely the ones in the Rose gold set I talked about. The foundation, contour and eye brushes especially if you want to buy individually. I used to love the RT buffing brush but the foundation brush by Zoeva is better.

The powder brush is nice but not very dense so it's best for pressed powder, and the blush brush and concealer brushes are nice too but just 'nice' and I wouldn't bother if they didn't come as part of it.

ScooseIsLoose · 14/04/2015 08:45

Have looked at the rose gold collection quick question is the foundation brush good for applying liquid foundation or is it more for powder?

OP posts:
StayGoldPonyBoy · 15/04/2015 15:48

Great for both! I use it with bare minerals, and liquid foundations

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/04/2015 16:48

I hate washing brushes, they seem to change afterwards no matter how carefully I do them or whatever shampoo I use. Real techniques dome brush just turned into a scratchy stick after washing! I'm always on the hunt for the perfect brushesSmile

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/04/2015 17:14

I like the look of the crown brushes in that link!

frankietwospots · 16/04/2015 09:19

Totally agree with you DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen! I'd rather keep using a dirty brush than wreck it by washing it Blush

RL20 · 16/04/2015 09:25

Every time I've washed a foundation brush, the makeup doesn't even seem to come out properly, and definitely doesn't dry the same!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/04/2015 10:46

Thank God it's not just meGrin

I have a lovely make up sponge, it's grim and needs a wash but goodness it's PERFECT atm but it's very borderline but I know the minute I wash it it'll be crap.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 16/04/2015 12:06

How do you dry them?

I have to wash, rough dry on a towel, wash again, look in the middle for any soap/sneaky makeup and maybe wash again, and then rough dry and I hang them upside down so the water drips out of the ferrule. They feel greasy otherwise and smear my makeup rather than blend it.

I can't wait til DD is a bit bigger, she loves washing up and helping me wash brushes weirdo so when she can do it properly without supervision, I'll make those her special chores Grin
