What ridiculously expensive skin care product was worth it to you?

I'm going through a high end skin care phase and some of it is just so bloody lovely and I will be repurchasing. I generally try and sample stuff before the big spend, obviously. Being Content have a nice sample service for £3.

I think when I say "high end" I think it's subjective, really. If it's a big chunk of whatever budget you have to spend, I guess!

I would thoroughly recommend Sisley Black Rose mask. I use it if I am going out. Plumps skin , adds radiance, smells amazing.

Am also pretty impressed with the REN Keep Young and Beautiful Serum.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 13/04/2015 16:15

I love Elemis Rehydrating Rosepetal cleanser. I'm sure there are equally nice cheaper cleansers, but I love the smell and texture, and I don't need to use much of it so it's not as pricey as it seems - £22. Slightly cheaper than my true love Shu Uemura cleansing oil.

I want a facial oil and an exfoliant so lurking for luxe suggestions - I use Nivea blue pot as my moisturiser as it suits my thirsty skin, so I'm happy to splurge on other bits! Might go for the Blue Orchid oil and get a cheapo exfoliant from Bravura or similar as that's functional, and branded exfoliants tend to be £££ and not as effective, whereas things like oils and cleansers just feel nicer if they're posh Grin

Nabootique · 13/04/2015 16:22

I have the Bravura calendula toner and I really like it. I've tried Pixiglow and a few others and the Bravura is my favourite now.

Should say it's my favourite every day one. I don't use the Dennis Gross pads I mentioned in my first post every day, as they'd be too much for me, I think, but they are fab too.

Primrose I love the Sisley lip balm - I am a lip balm queen and DH bought it for me one Christmas. Best lip goo ever! Definitely treat territory for me though.

And Only1scoop, YY to the Chanel Hydramax - gel in the summer and creme in the winter! Tried other stuff in between and always go back to it! Oop the Shard will have to try the mask now.

I also love REN rose micellar water (not hugely spendy but feels lovely).

And Jo Malone body cremes - I am hooked, they smell so good and feel wonderful too (get them duty free or as gifts).

FrugalFashionista · 13/04/2015 21:26

I like Chanel Hydra serum and their sunscreen. I don't usually spend a lot on skincare - the rest is LRP and Eucerin and products from the supermarket - but both are just right for my finicky dry and acne/perioral/rosacea prone skin. I'm right now going through my cupboards and using up stuff - face creams on body and so on. Lots of those products didn't deliver, so I'm going to focus on those that do.

Allie82 · 13/04/2015 22:56

Completely in love with the La Prairie hydrating cellular serum. Made my skin look amazing but sadly I can't afford to pay £150 for a 30ml bottle Sad

NigellasGuest · 13/04/2015 23:58

Sunday Riley Good Genes- well worth the £ imo

alexiainge · 14/04/2015 08:21

My favourite is May Lindstrom Problem Solver mask, it's a powder mask (so no best before date) that is expensive, but you only have to buy it twice a year.

If your skin's got a problem, this is aptly named.

There's also the Cult 51 Night Cream, it it skincare marmite that some people hate, but I love it.

Nabootique · 14/04/2015 08:27

I really want Good Genes. It's on my Cult Beauty wishlist. Nigella what does it do for you?

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/04/2015 08:44

I was very disappointed with the good genes. It stinks, gets used up very quickly and did nothing for my face.

Botox is my best investment.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 14/04/2015 08:46

Ballroom- depending on your age and skin type I would recommend the Neals Yard Frankincense facial oil (if you're nearer 50 than 20 like me!) It's the best facial oil I've used, my 11s are almost gone after using it for 2 months. Not that expensive really either, and if you want to try it first before buying the bottle you can pick up sample sachets on ebay.

I did buy the NY Rose facial oil as recommended on here, but it's not "rich" enough for me somehow. Nice enough but nothing cf to the frankincense.

People rave about rosehip oil, but tbh, I'm with Caroline Hirons on that. Once you get past 30 a few crused rosehips ain't gonna cut it.

I have tried millions of oils (Decleor, Liz Earle, basic organic ones from Amazon cheap (and very nasty mineral oil filled "Vitamin E" from Superdrug etc etc) and the NYF is definitely the best for me.

I have always wanted to try the Guerlain Midnight secret serum.....

DrankSangriaInThePark · 14/04/2015 08:46

crushed rosehips, clearly. Grin

BabyGanoush · 14/04/2015 09:16

REN glycolactic facemask and themicro scrub thingie are lovely and work.

Other than that, I have given up on high end skin care and use body shop vit E cream quite happily

HellKitty · 14/04/2015 09:20

I bought a dermaroller for about £45 and it does make your skin look great. The YSL youth serum is lovely but I'm really here to nosey and window shop Smile

Nabootique · 14/04/2015 09:34

I've thought about getting a dermaroller. What mm size do you use HellKitty?

OP posts:
HellKitty · 14/04/2015 09:43

I did have the 0.05mm which broke me in gently, I've now got the 1mm. If I use it in the afternoon before a night out my skin looks all plump and fresh - even if I don't feel the same Smile

polyhymnia · 14/04/2015 10:35

I am a major Sisley fan. Love all their products and think they work too.

But they are very pricy so I've now 'downgraded' to Clarins, which I would call mid market, for all my skincare needs. Very satisfied, though still treat myself to an occasional Sisley product - such as one of their masks - when I can.

polyhymnia · 14/04/2015 10:36

Oh and always use and recommend By Terry Baume de Rose lip balm.

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/04/2015 10:39

Poly - have you tried the nuxe lip balm - I prefer it to byterry.

stilllovingmysleep · 14/04/2015 10:55

I use different facial oils both for moisturising (at night) and actually for cleansing too, with a hot cloth. My favourite is the Balance me facial oil for more expensive but I also use lots of others that I buy from Amazon fairly cheaply such as almond oil / jojoba etc.

I love the Este Lauder eye cream from more expensive products & also Dr Hauschka lip balm.

I also love love love the Liz Earle cleanser & their tonic which smells divine.

polyhymnia · 14/04/2015 11:45

MrsC - no, I've seen it but haven't tried. (Am a bit addicted to the delicate rose smell of the By T, I think). Will investigate next time I'm in Space NK.

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/04/2015 12:24

Its a very good balm for night time - I then use byterry in the day.

NigellasGuest · 14/04/2015 14:15

OP the Good Genes really seems to tighten and brighten. Gives a little sting so you feel (rightly or wrongly) that it's actually doing something! Only small amount needed so should last.
