Good basic everyday facial sunscreen

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good everyday sunscreen? My skin is a pain and likes Astral moisturiser only. Good as it is cheap but not helpful as it does not include an spf. I used to use Dermalogica solar defence in the days pre children but that is too pricey now. Is there anything cheaper that people use? Thanks.

PS - I am rubbish with make up etc so apologies if a stupid question.

When I used to work for clinique I loved their city block.

Now I am a sahm and poor (!) I buy superdrugs own brand spf 30 anti ageing face cream (in with the sun lotions)..its £1.98 a tube and 5 star uva protection and non pore blocking. Absolutely fab.

I use Clinique city block. It is wonderful under makeup and I look better as soon as I put it on! It's like it has an invisible veil that sometimes obviates need for foundation. It's a mystery. Especially as I don't have great skin!

Another endorsement for Boots baby Soltan sensitive SPF 50. Currently seems to be the only thing that doesn't make my eyes sting on a hot sweaty day.

I like Avon Magix face 'perfector' (topping name for good mattifying stuff, SPF 20. Feels a bit heavy when you first put it on, but a good workhorse product.

Sorry, autocorrect didn't like 'gopping'

Zebra and Frugal I mix the tinted LRP Anthelios with the white one to get exactly the right tone for me. I keep one container of ready mixed colour as well as the white and tinted.

I use Cityblock, as well. I don't really like it. I mean, it doesn't do anything bad but I wish I could find a lovely moisturizer that was full spectrum at the same SPF.

But, due to using RetinA, I absolutely have to wear a high SPF and Cityblock is about as good as I've found/can afford.

I buy SunSense from Amazon. Its spf50 and fairly cheap, so you can skather it on. I also dont believe 'moisturisers containing spf15' are effective.

I love the clinique HP one, it's like a milk rather than a cream and works so well (pale skinned redhead here).

Asian sunscreens are so amazing. I've used both of these hada labo and biore I'm on my 2nd tube of the Hada Labo one, better for my drier skin.

It's hard to apply enough sunscreen though- best option I've found is to apply 2 layers.

I love Asian sunscreens too. I've never heard of the Hada Labo one before but have just purchased it. Thanks! Smile

Baaaaa baaaaa.

I've just bought the Hada Labo one too. I shall report back once I have tried it.
I mosied round Boots and John Lewis today looking for my holy grail face spa that doesn't clog my skin nor leave a white cast, and there were hardly any testers. Which was annoying. So I have done the only sensible thing and bought a product from another continent, off the Internet, on the recco of a total stranger.

Grrr. Spf not spa.

Following this with interest. I have to avoid anything with chemical sunscreens in them (Avobenzone is one) that causes me spots. I have read that Clinique City Block SPF 25 is a mineral one, so shouldn't be spot causing. I'd bought Sunsense and Neutrogena Dry Touch last year, as I'd read good things about them, only to break out every time I wore them. Anyone know if the LRP Anthelios is a physical sunscreen?

Sad

I am eagerly awaiting my Hada Labo sunscreen so I just checked when it will arrive as I didn't do that when I bought it . Not for another week at least! That's a big old shame, it's so sunny here that I've been wearing lots of sunscreen, and the LRP one is awful for my skin. So not only am I ghostly and sticky when I wear it, I'm also spotty now too. Yay. I didn't actually want to match my MN name.

On a day to day basis I wear Nivea Daily Essentials Light Moisturising Cream which has a SPF 15. It's very cheap - around £3. its also constantly on offer so I stock up as I usually get through one every month.

On hotter days I use La Roche-Posay 50+ Anthelios XL liquid. I have greasy skin and this is very light. It is about £15 though and only 50 ml (same as nivea).

I use to love Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 but they have changed the ingredients to this and I now find it is too thick for my skin but it was £36 last time I bought it so it wasn't too hard a loss!

I swear by sunsense, it's an Ozzie one and they really know what they are talking about spf wise.

I really liked Sunsense but not sure it is my holy grail SPF. Still had some issues with it pilling and rolling. Heliocare is nice but not budget! Nivea was rubbish, practically rolling off as I put it on.

On a recommendation on this thread I bought the superdrug on a couple of days ago (see pic)
I've been using it with serum, instead of my normal moisturiser for the last couple of days. Foundation goes on over the top no problem, no balling, no strange colour reactions etc.

Ooh, for £1.98, that Superdrug one is worth a whirl...

Does the Sunsense one leave you ghostly or give you spots?

Report
Kundry · 15/04/2015 22:15

Sunsense definitely doesn't give you spots. I used the Daily Face. It has niacinamide in so protects against spots. It had a slight tint which was good for my v pale skin and no ghostly tone - not sure what it would be like with a darker skin tone but I found a lot of tinted SPFs too dark as I don't want to tan at all and they seemed designed to suit a tan.

I second Asian sunscreens. I get biotech watery essence from eBay, it's about a tenner Inc postage and a bottle lasts me around six weeks with daily applications. I use a quarter teaspoon on my face, and yes, I measure it with a measuring spoon.

I also use retin a Fabulassie so am stringent about using sunscreen. Biore doesn't break me out or leave a white caste , I can apply make up over it too. It's the biz.
