What to wear in summer when you have milk-bottle white legs

In winter i live in jeans, and dresses with boots and opaques and can rock it fairly well.

BUT in summer I don't know what to wear.
Are maxis too 2005?
What about coloured jeans? too 2010?

I have dropped a dress size recently (from 14/16 to 12/14) and still working on it and don't look too bad really but legs are a disaster for skirts in summer.
I have such pale complexion that fake tan looks absolutely AWFUL
NB am effectively SAHM so don't need to be too smart.

Please can you link me to some nice bits MNers
TIA

Hmm, agree about that. I've seen people describe themselves as "white" when I still wouldn't look as dark as them after a year southern Spain. Last summer I spotted far more white white legs than I've ever noticed before so I do think you should reclaim the glare OP. There's another thread about this atm

Cocolepew · 07/04/2015 20:02

I know you said fake tan looks horrible on you, but Im a fellow milk bottle and Garnier gradual moisturising tan in light is very good.
You could use it every other day.

lavendersun · 07/04/2015 20:02

I have a blue tinge generally ..... I embrace it and wear what I want to.

IMO slightly blue and natural looks better than slightly orange and fake.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 07/04/2015 20:10

Last year I noticed 'the young' were eschewing the fake tan with a firm hand and getting their milk bottles out. I practically stalked this gorgeous red-he'd down Princes St with bare legs that would be quite close to mine in the colour chart (Artic Glaze, if anyone's Interested). And I thoght 'you can learn from them young, Wilson old peach.'

I'm getting them out this year. I may need Some handholding

Really pale legs are great.

Better than turkey basted pale brown ones. No, they don't look 'sun-kissed and healthy and natural'. Nine times out of ten, they look covered in fake tan. Even when done well.

Pale is cool.

They're not pale - I can see your legs against the doors Seriously, your legs are totally fine as they are.

ElizabethHoover · 07/04/2015 21:02

I seriously have no idea what's wrong with your legs. Confused

TheBoov · 07/04/2015 21:02

That's not milk-bottle white dearie. I am, and they don't tan. I get the odd freckle on the front of my calves but otherwise I am glaringly blue white.
Fake tan is a nightmare on such legs. It needs applying with great care every other day and smells horrible.

I either wear very fine tights with some colour for work (M&S do cool ones for summer but can't recall name) or linen trousers.
The rest of the time I mainly wear cropped trousers, or cropped leggings under a very short dress. Maxi dresses for hot weather, whether or not they are in fashion!

ElizabethHoover · 07/04/2015 21:03

THINK. Think of all the poor women with scarring or similar. Those battling csmcer. Hair loss. Etc. STOP APOLOGISING FOR YOUR BODY. It's the best thing you'll ever have.

TheBoov · 07/04/2015 21:07

Ha, hoover, I have hideous scarring after cancer which stands out violently on my milk bottle legs and I'm fine with that. It's a battle scar and I'm proud. But me luminous legs? Cover!

BeeBawBabbity · 07/04/2015 21:07

They are not pale compared to mine!

I used to worry about them but last year gave up stressing and wore shorts. I stopped thinking about them after about an hour on day 1 and now couldn't care less. And I was wonderfully cool. Try it?

MrsCampbellBlack · 07/04/2015 21:10

I think your legs look great.

I am pale and do use fake tan but to be honest that just takes me to most people's 'normal' colour.

I love white jeans for spring weather and still think coloured ones look nice.

But really just wear whatever you like and is cool in the hot weather - no one will look that closely at your legs.

zippyswife · 07/04/2015 21:15

I am a pale red head and used to tan up- I gave in to my natural milk bottle colour last year and it felt good.
Your legs are tanned in comparison to mine- you have nowt to fret about- just get them out and enjoy the sun!

YesPleaseJohnSnow · 07/04/2015 21:19

I have really white peely wally legs (redhead) and used to do the fake tan thing but it's more hassle than its worth and with my colouring it's obvious I'm not supposed to tan. What I do now is use up the foundation I've bought that's too dark for my face, mix it with some moisturiser and slap it on my arms or legs just to even the skin tone a bit and cover up veins etc.

ElizabethHoover · 07/04/2015 21:35

Grr at theboov ;)

Iwasbornin1993 · 07/04/2015 21:42

I live in maxi dresses in the summer! I wish I could get away with wearing them all year round they're just so comfy!

twinteresting · 07/04/2015 21:53

Blush at all of this.
Thanks for the nice words - and you are right Elizabeth.
Actually looking at the photo, rather than down at them, they don't look too bad.
Will look better when toned as I start up a bit more exercise which is the plan
as the weather gets better.
Off to buy those lovely loafers.

I meant get your legs out. Blush obviously you don't need to get them!

I think we need to see your legs too.

tomatodizzymum · 07/04/2015 23:22

OH my god your legs are great. They are not white at all. They are the same colour as mine and I've been living in friggin Brazil for two years!! FFS. Enjoy the summer Smile

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 08/04/2015 08:56

Seriously, you wouldn't be able to see my legs against that door. I would look like I'd mastered the art of levitation...

CandyApocalypse · 08/04/2015 09:23

My legs are far paler than yours and I don't fake tan. Embrace the pale (not literally, that's a bit weird).
