If you're happy with you skin what is your routine?

diggerdigsdogs · 01/04/2015 02:29

After watching my skin age before my eyes since moving to Aus I've finally done something about it and my skin is looking the best it has in years.

I'd love to know what others are doing and (roughly) how old you are and what skin type you have. Just because I'm nosy and want to know if I'm missing a trick somewhere.

So, me: Almost 30, very slightly dehydrated combination skin, fine lines, some sun damage.

AM:
Clarins Gel Melt Cleanser (though I've almost finished this and want to swap to the Ren milk cleanser)
Ren Radiance Perfecting Serum
Liz Earle light moisturiser

I need a decent sun block on next but I'm using a CC cream with spf instead.

PM
Eve Lom cleanser (also likely to switch once I've finished the pot for something without mineral oil. Not a fan of Cleanse and Polish though)
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair
Rosehip oil

Over to you...

OP posts:
Brillenbar · 01/04/2015 06:25

I'm a good 10 years older than you and have suffered with eczema

Cleanse ( double cleanse in the evening) body shop camomile cleansing butter ( mineral oil free), body shop cleansing gel oil, cetaphil in the shower

Acid exfoliant (clarins) twice a week

Eye cream ( currently Bobbi brown, but loccitane divine eye cream is my favourite)

Moisturisers - body shop vitamin e in morning. At night, it depends, but anything from Roship oil, body shop vitamin e serum in oil and clarins multi active night. I then use Bobbi brown make up

Have recently re-discovered body shop and am very impressed

dexter73 · 01/04/2015 07:57

I'm 42, dry skin, sun damage (brown patch on forehead) few fine lines.

Morning - wash face in shower, currently using Orgnic Surge facewash. Then use serum (L'Oreal Revitalift) and moisturiser (Nuxe creme prodigieuse).

Evening - cleanse using a No.7 eye make-up remover and a Nivea cleanser. Then use Nuxe huile prodigieuse.

I'm not faithful to any products and just tend to buy whatever I fancy or is on special offer at the time.

UML · 01/04/2015 07:59

I have also changed my routine this last week, and am very happy with my skin.

I use avene cold cream soap whenever I was my face, morning or evening. It is then followed by a witch hazel tonic www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00016XJ4M/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/279-7279223-6442648?fp=1&pc_redir=1427871160 which contains aloe Vera and rose water.

To moisturise I use a small blob of organic coconut oil and raw Shea butter. This is at night, I haven't figured out yet what to use in the morning!

I even use the Shea on my feet and it works brilliantly.

I started this routine after being tired if forking out loads of money in toiletries which have a limited effect, and being scared of using anti-ageing products on my sensitive skin and delicate under eye area.

I got my oil and butter from akoma skincare.

UML · 01/04/2015 08:01

And face washing is always done with cold water.

UML · 01/04/2015 08:10

I'm in my thirties, combination but sensitive skin, some blemishes, and fine lines around my eyes. And sleep deprived!

FennyBridges · 01/04/2015 08:12

An interesting thread!

Morning: Clinique soap and clarifying lotion, coconut oil as moisturiser and then Clinique City Block sun factor 40.

Evening: cleanse with coconut oil and hot water, clarifying lotion and then moisturise with coconut oil.

I also take 1000mg of Cod Liver Oil every evening because it completely controls any hormonal outbreak. If I do get a spot it completely reduces any red swelling and it disappears throughout the day. I would advise coconut oil and Cod Liver Oil to anyone with unpredictable skin. It is amazing.

I have young skin for late 30s, no longer oily/combination just normal skin. I am olive skinned and very dark hair.

FennyBridges · 01/04/2015 08:16

I get my oil from Sainsbury's: Lucy Bee organic extra virgin coconut oil. I have tried a mixture of castor oil and olive before but it isn't as nice or luxurious. I initially started experimenting because of the cost of my preferred products whilst having small children too. But now I wouldn't go back :-)

ouryve · 01/04/2015 08:19

I'm 45 with very sensitive combination skin - prone to flaking, redness and acne if I don't treat it right.

I wear no make up, which helps immensely.

I wash daily with Clinique comforting cream cleanser (I know, I know - I'm going to have to face up to its demise when I finish this tube. Thankfully, it lasts ages)
Dab on a little of the plain yellow Clinique moisturiser.

About once a week, I have a good deep wash with lush dream wash. It's a little drying but excellent for removing dead skin and leaves me with quite a glow.

chantico · 01/04/2015 08:21

Good genes (by good luck)

Good SPF.

Moisturiser when I remember it (usually when skin feels tight, which it does a little more often now perimenopausal).

If you enjoy a more elaborate regime, then do whatever makes you feel good. But leave your skin totally bare for a while, every day.

Nabootique · 01/04/2015 08:39

AM:

Hot cloth cleanse with cream/gel type cleanser
Acid tone
Hydrating tone
Serum
Hyaluronic acid
Moisturiser

PM:

Double cleanse with balm and then cream/gel
The rest as above but with some extra facial oil over the moisturiser

Liquid Gold twice a week and I've just bought a great, strong salicylic acid one from SR skincare which I think I'll use once a week, so they're treatments. Clay mask once a week.

Products

Boots Botanics and Body Shop Camomile balm cleansers (love them both).

Second/morning cleansers: Body Shop Pomegranate (won't repurchase), Seaweed and Aloe ones (will repurchase both), plus the Nutraganics oil gel (won't repurchase), NSpa Melting Gel cleanser (love), Bravura clay cleanser (might get again. Like it but the packaging is a pain in the arse), Soap and Glory Ultimelt (bit meh - won't repurchase), Boots Botantics Calming cream cleanser (similar to the aloe Body Shop one, I think, which just has the edge on this). Depends on how my skin is that day.

Acid toners: Bravura calendular, Pixiglow (massively overrated IMO. Doesn't do much for me so won't repurchase), Nip+Fab Glycolic pads, La Roche Posay Effeclar clarifying lotion.

Hydrating toners: Body Shop vitamin E in the spray bottle, and the vitamin C one, and the seaweed toner for if I'm a bit greasy.

Serums: Indeed Labs peptabright (little bit rich for me, but it does what it says on the box), Body Shop vitamin E serum in oil (very nice), Good Things argan oil serum (very impressed. Will definitely get again), Body Shop vitamin C radiance capsules (brighten me up if I'm all dull).

Hyaluronic acid: I'm finishing up some Hydraluron at the moment, but have got 33ml bottle of pure stuff, so exactly the same as Hydraluron, from SR Skincare for about £6.50, so will be sticking to that now!

Moisturiser: Body Shop vitamin E moisturiser (the normal one. It's okay. I heard they changed the formula and now it's not as good. Didn't try the old one), Body Shop Vitamin E aqua boost sorbet (lovely before make up, but can't use at night as putting any sort of oil over it results in bobbling due to the massive silicon content), Dirty Works 8 in 1 miracle cream (cheap as chips and I keep coming back to it).

I'm 31. Skin used to be oily and spot prone, also dehydrated. Now I still have to really keep on it to keep it hydrated but don't get spots and I'm not very oily. Have definitely noticed an improvement in fine lines since taking extra care.

Sorry for epic post! This is my kind of thread!

Nabootique · 01/04/2015 08:43

Oh, and Good Things Argan Oil and Boots Botanics Facial oil for my oils! Also drink loads of water and take Omega 3 supplements. When I say I have to keep on the dehydration at least I know how to now, if you know what I mean? My skin just seems to lose moisture easily and I'm always having to put it back in. I don't think my caffeine addiction helps.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 01/04/2015 08:48

33, dry and dehydrated skin exacerbated by pregnancy.

Elemis Rehydrating Rose cleanser, splashed off with water

Nivea blue pot

Soltan Baby SPF50

Light serum foundation, cream blush

Evenings, double cleanse with the Elemis cleanser, then a facial oil before the Nivea.

I need to add in exfoliation, my skin is so dry and sensitive atm that I've been skipping it but I'm noticing old acne scars becoming more prominent again (although no current dullness or spots, and no wrinkliness) so plan to treat myself to the Clarins exfoliating toner and use that twice weekly at night.

DottyDebs · 01/04/2015 08:51

I am 60 although new friends who don't know my age think I am mid-late 40s, early 50s. I have no lines at all except a tiny few ones at corners of eyes.
Only my neck gives it away so please girls- whatever you do to your face, do to your neck- which includes high spf/sun block all year round.

I've used high SPF for over 25 years after treatment for eczema- so every day it's been sun block spf25 or higher ( now use 40). On top of moisturiser and under foundation.

I always cleanse but TBH I don't think brands make any difference, and dermos agree.

I have used the cheapest- L'oreal cleansing lotions- to more expensive Clinique- now using their balm.

I don't use toner- just a warm water splash and cleanse with a warm flannel afterwards.

I've always used Clinique - Age defence was one- but have changed to Olay 3-point Regenerist- half the price from Amazon and impressed.

Liked Ren Frankinsence night stuff but now use the Olay then too.

Sometimes use serums- tried E Lauder Perfectionist but not impressed for the price and would say Olay Regenerist is as good.

Morning
Quick wipe over with a micellar water
Olay
Clinique City Block

Evening
Clinique Take the day off balm
Eye make up remover- L'Oreal or Waitrose- both cheap and good
Use hot flannel to remove
Olay as night cream

Clinique 7 day scrub now and then, along with their overnight Moisture Surge mask.

gastrognome · 01/04/2015 13:22

Am 41, skin still looks decent. Quite delicate (prone to marking/scarring), slightly dry in patches and prone to flakiness around nose.

I use the Dr Organic Rose Otto range (buy in Holland & Barrett) and will never spend £££ on face creams again. I use the facial serum (which is technically an oil, rather than a serum) and the day/night creams. Since I've used them the patches of flaky skin have disappeared, and only return if I stop using the products. They smell lovely too.

I cleanse with a baby skincare water which is better (less drying) than any micellar water I've tried, and much cheaper too. Comes in a massive bottle.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 01/04/2015 13:28

Love these threads Grin

My skin is the best it's ever been at the moment, and I think it's down to my routine. 34, sensitive, prone to breakouts and congestion.

AM:
Superdrug Radiance Hot Cloth Cleanser
Pixi Glow Tonic
Lush Eau Roma
Olay Regenerist Luminous Serum
Astalift Day Cream
Skin79 BB Cream SPF 25

PM:
Clinique Take the Day Off Balm
NSpa Melting Gel Cleanser
Pixi Glow Tonic
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair
Then depending on how my skin feels either:
Bio-essence Hydra Tri-Action Aqua Droplet Sleeping Beauty Mask
OR
Lush Skin's Shangri-La

DrankSangriaInThePark · 01/04/2015 13:53

Am 49, dry skin, no-one thinks I'm this age...
Morning hot cloth cleanse, serum, moisturise.
Evening ditto, but double cleanse and use a facial oil with/instead of moisturiser.
I do a 30% GA peel once a week. Tried Liquid Gold in the past, but it didn't do much for me.

Products: At the moment I alternate between Boots Botanics balm cleanser (Won't buy again, don't like the smell or gritty texture) Liz Earle CP (Used to love, now feel a bit meh) and Elemis pro radiance, the new Bergamot/neroli one- absolutely love it.
Serum- am finishing off a Neal's Yard Frankincense, hugely disappointed, I love the cream and oil but this is tightening and bobbles on my skin. I also have some n7 lift and luminate which is pretty damn good to say it's not a high end range.
Moisturiser- finishing off an Elemis marine. Won't buy again, it's never done anything for me and is wateryShock I slop Astral on my neck and have a neck which looks 20 yrs younger than the rest of me. I'm alternating between NY Frankincense oil which I love, and NY Rose which is nice, but not as rich as the former.

Annarose2014 · 01/04/2015 14:12

40, normal skin, look a hell of a lot younger.

I attribute this to not smoking and wearing an spf of 15 every day for 20 years - and in recent years spf 30.

I've never exfoliated as I think people tend to overdo it and strip the skin leading to redness and sensitivity.

I have included an acid toner a few times a week recently and use a night cream with a small amount of retinol (the Aldi Q10 one) as it gives smoothness.

I wash off make up with a cleansing oil and use a moisturiser with spf 30. If I'm lazy I use a micellar water.

But I rarely wash my face in the morning after reading that Salma Hayek doesn't! She claims it keeps skin plumper and younger if you don't keep stripping it. Caroline Hirons would be horrified! !!

PurpleDaisies · 01/04/2015 14:50

Oooh I love these threads too!

My skin doesn't do well with too much faffing about. Estée Lauder perfectly clean face wash followed by their daywear moisturiser both morning and night. I have a sample of night repair I use in the evening which I really like and might consider paying the eye watering cost for when it runs out.

Clinique city block in the daytime, Simple eye make up remover. Occasionally use a Sanctuary thermal mask thing in a grey tube which is lovely. That's it! Works for me.

GiveOverLuv · 01/04/2015 17:46

I'm late thirties, don't really have any wrinkles yet, but have slight eye bags, a bit of sun damage and slight rosaecea. My skin is quite sensitive and combination (oily nose and chin, dry/normal elsewhere).

At night I use:

Superdrug Vit E hot cloth cleanser. I double cleanse with this at night. Have used other hot cloth cleansers - Elemis, Eve Lom and the Tesco own brand one - previously with success, but Liz Earle made my skin sore and red.

Then massage in a few drops of Trilogy rose hip oil.

Then use a night cream. I've just finished my Weleda rose night cream, which was lovely, but a bit skint this month so have been using Nivea night cream and its fine.

Then pat a bit of Origins A Perfect Day eye cream around my eyes.

Mornings I just splash my face with water, pat dry and apply sunblock (SunSense factor 50 facial sunscreen).

I use a scrub (Jason's apricot scrub) and a mask (currently Chanel Hydramax which was a gift and is so so lovely) once or twice a month if my skin feels a bit grotty.

My skin hates serums, toners, most eye creams, make up remover and using too many products at once. It just rebels and gets tight and a bit rashy.

ThatBloodyWoman · 01/04/2015 17:50

I get compliments on my skin.
I don't wear make up,wash with water, and put nivea soft on every morning.I also spend a fair amount of time outside, and am pretty active.
My theory is that daily make up trashes your skin.

Strictlyison · 01/04/2015 17:58

43, cleanse twice a day with Burt's Bees cream cleanser, rinse with hot flannel, then I use no 7 day moisturizer and night moisturizer in the evening, and apply no 7 eye cream morning and night.

I don't wear any face make up during a normal day, just mascara and lip gloss and for removing mascara I use Waitrose own basic eye make up remover it's very good and gentle.

bonzo77 · 01/04/2015 18:24
  1. Normal / combination skin. Some mild sun damage (pigment patches and freckles) but not wrinkles. AM. L'Oreal skin perfection pink face wash then matching toner. L'Oreal laser renew serum. L'Oreal Revitalift eye cream and spf30 day cream. PM generally nothing. If I've worn make up I'll take it off with the L'Oreal remover, then repeat as in the morning but with Diprobase instead of the day cream.

I've used £££ brands before, and cheap ones. This is what works right now for me.

Bodicea · 01/04/2015 18:38

31 -combination/dry skin with occasional eczema patches.
I think I have good skin for my age and told I look young a lot.
Have used an SPF cream every day since I was 18 including an eye cream which I honk is the main factor.

Cleanse in the shower with a cream cleans/ hot cloth type cleanser. Not loyal to a brand - want to try Clinique liquid soap next due to good reviews.

Currently use Olay regenerist fragrance free serum followed by Clinique city block SPF 25 mixed half and half with BB cream or heavier moisturiser if my skin feels dry. Also using the Clinique SPF eye cream.

Always been meticulous for the day but tobe honest I am useless at night. When I remember I cleanse and moisturise with a heavier moisturiser - not loyal to a brand. Used dermalogica skin smoothing creAm for years but la roche posay range is a current favourite as it's a bit cheaper.

I have recently started checking reviews on Paula begouns beautypaedia before I splash out on a product. She has put me off a few old favourites such as dermalogica and liz Earle.

mowglik · 01/04/2015 19:16

I love reading skincare reviews :D
Mid 30s, oily skin

Morning - elemis pro radiance cleanser with flannel
Elemis marine cream

Evenjng - garnier micellar water
Emma hardie cleansing balm
Nuxe floral water
Avon eye gel
Serum - aldi lacura or hyaluronic acid serum or skin doctors vit C serum
Emma hardie night cream or elemis marine or aldi lacura night cream

Also have loads of other stuff I rotate like guerlain midnight secret if I have had a late night, Emma hardie day cream etc. Of all the stuff I use I have found using elemis pro radiance cleanser and Emma hardie cleansing balm has really softened my skin and given it some radiance Smile

BlueberryMuffins76 · 01/04/2015 20:37

I've always been lucky enough to have excellent skin - blemish free and even, a tad oily on my nose but that's about it. I wash with cold water & a Clarins exfoliating facial wash in the shower, and I take my make up off using baby wipes only.
I moisturise with an Olay all in one, and use a Max Factor primer under my foundation, which I wear daily.
