Supermarket clothing

Is it just me or is some supermarket clothing really good in terms of quality and design?

I have recently realised that Sainsburys items aren't just good for kids, but that there are some good old fashioned thick cotton shirts and tops, with nice designs.

Some of my best work trousers came from Asda, and some PJs from Tesco.

Is it that the supermarkets have stepped up where the high street has left off, or have they always been good and I've never really realised?

I think you can get some really nice clothes from supermarkets. Tesco had some really nice winter coats this year and at good prices compared to some high street stores. The PJ's are also very good as you say OP.

tonight i got 2 nice shirts from asda teen dd got a few t shirts and dh got shirts i know it's not high end but who cares dd1 works in sainsbury when they have their big sale we go with her discount card and stock up on pyjamas and whatever else takes our fancy,

RJnomore · 23/03/2015 23:06

I buy practically all my day to day clothes from the supermarket mostly because it's so convenient - I'm there anyway getting food.

Picked up a lovely knitted raspberry dress for £8 in Thr Asda sale yesterday. Ideal for work and if it doesn't last too long, it's not a tragedy.

Tesco had some lovely work clothes the other week but when I went back to get some everything I liked had gone Sad

Brookville · 23/03/2015 23:07

DH bought some white tees in Asda and they shrank after one wash. I think it's hit and miss. Hard to tell how they'll last.

Truckingalong · 23/03/2015 23:08

I love supermarket clothes. I work in a reasonably senior position in the corporate world and no one can tell that I'm wearing stuff from Asda!!!! I love the style of their cigarette trousers and I get boys age 14 polo shirts for £4 for me, similar to Joules style. Shoes I find harder though. Asda has gone downhill and I don't rate sainsburies or tesco either. And they all start at size 34 in bras - none of them do a 30dd - just the ubiquitous 36c, which is no ones size really.

Mrsjayy · 23/03/2015 23:10

I've had summer trousers for years from George granted i only usually take them on holiday so not getting loads of washing and tbh I'm a bit stingy i won't pay ££ s for clothes

PiggyBeekman · 23/03/2015 23:31

I live oop north next to a massive ASDA which has a big George section. I used to go down to London a lot to the head office of a national department store for client meetings. Without fail, I always got complimented on my outfit when I was wearing ASDA dresses. When I told them where they were from they were like Shock

Underwear is hit and miss but Sainsbury's have lovely children's clothes.

Arrowedheart · 23/03/2015 23:37

Supermarkets definitely great for clothes. It's a bit hit and miss so you don't find good things that often, but they are there. I've had great jeans, tops and jackets from Asda that have lasted and worn better than Reiss and Whistles.

chanie44 · 24/03/2015 07:08

I like Sainsburys clothes for the children. I always find something nice for my son, but the girls stuff is a bit hit and miss.

I'm not that keen on tesco though. I think it's because my local store is a bit crappy looking and it doesn't make a nice shopping experience.

TeaAddict235 · 24/03/2015 12:16

my tesco's clothing is only accessible by an external lift & nasty stairs, so it does put me off too.

Sainsburys seem to do really good quality 100% cotton tops each summer. Got a fab boho one last year, this year a square neck smock style. Usually white on white embroidery or broderie anglais(sp)

Love Sainsburys, think its on a par with Next for style and quality. And they have regular 25% off events.
Plus, we haven't got one round here so I travel to the next town. It means DD doesn't end up with the same Next coat that 10 other girls in her class have got.

I wish they'd get their arses in gear on the online ordering front though. They said early 2015 and it's almost April.

takemeuptheeiffeltower · 24/03/2015 18:44

I've picked up some really good quality items in Asda of all places.
And the quality is about 100% better than Next.
Next have gone downhill regards quality.

With Asda, it's best to stay away from their Value range. But everything else isn't bad quality.

Aridane · 24/03/2015 19:41

Tesco dresses for work - colleagues thin they are from Hobbs!

WipsGlitter · 24/03/2015 20:02

I have a lovely dress from Asda. You need to poke round and if you like it buy it as its never there when you go back!

LoadsaBlusher · 24/03/2015 20:32

I love the Tesco super skinny jeans.
They are the only jeans that actually stay tight and skinny , wash after wash.
I buy bits and bobs from Asda , my current work flats are from there , and their own brand jewellery range seems to be a bit trendier these days.
Bought the kids some chino Denim shorts last week from Tesco to put by for warmer weather.
Really didn't rate any of the supermarket baby stuff though , found all the bodysuits/ sleepsuits etc lost their shape easily and went bobbly
Stuck to Next for baby wear.
But in general love to browse the supermarkets to see what's there.

Purpleball · 24/03/2015 20:35

I buy loads of clothes from Sainsburys usually with 25%off. I find their quality is equal to the high street. They last well and wash brilliantly.
Many of my basics from there are years old. Their pyjamas and twin packs of leggings are great.

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 24/03/2015 20:38

I have had a pair of tesco yoga pants for years and they still look good.

I've bought a mac for DS1 in asda, and it looks fab on DS2 four years later.

BikeRunSki · 24/03/2015 20:42

My most favourite work trousers and going out trousers are both from Sainsbury's. I got a lot of the DC's stuff from them too. Unfortunately I no longer work really close to a big one anymore.

AdoraBell · 24/03/2015 22:11

My plain T shirts from Sainsbury have lasted years.

I will buy moré from there if we ever move back.

JohnCusacksWife · 24/03/2015 22:18

One of my all time favourite dresses was £16 from Asda. I've worn it so much the £ per wear must be pennies. I'll cry when it eventually gives up the ghost!

courgettesoup · 24/03/2015 22:25

Generally not a big fan (all those rails of things made from jersey that goes saggy after a wash) but have had some truly great skinny jeans from Lidl this year for less that a tenner.

itsnothingoriginal · 24/03/2015 22:30

It's the colours that let supermarket clothes down at times - that 'peach' shade that screams 'Tesco' a mile off Grin

I buy a lot from them - currently wearing a fab George tunic jumper which is great quality!
