The fat arms spring and summer support thread

afghanda · 23/03/2015 10:40

I dread spring and summer because my arms are HIDEOUS AND MUST BE COVERED AT ALL TIMES. Vests look bloody awful on me, but when it's hot there's not a lot of other options.

I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread where we could all post links to fat arm friendly tops and dresses that are suitable for warm or hot weather when we find them.

I'm in- exercise tips and motivation also accepted- would love an exercise I can do at my desk!

CMOTGilbertBlythe · 23/03/2015 11:22

I lift a 2.5 kg dumbell while watching tv of an evening. The arms aren't skinny but I think it helps tone.
Still not confident going sleeveless though. Has anyone got a link to some kind of thin, flimsy yet stylish arm covering solution? I'm not wearing cardigans this summer Blush

improbablesaint · 23/03/2015 11:37

i dont think anyone should wear vests to work, in the first instance.
I only wear sleeveless if the temp is above 25 degrees

Heels99 · 23/03/2015 11:39

Great thread

improbablesaint · 23/03/2015 11:39

i like boden t shirts a lot. I work in a room next door to a KILN fgs, its hot.
I am looking at this www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Tops-T-shirts/Short-Sleeved-Tops/WA596-IVO/Womens-Ivory-Broderie-Stripe-Tee.html

and already got this in navy stripe www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Tops-T-shirts/Short-Sleeved-Tops/WL906/Womens-Mariella-Tee.html

improbablesaint · 23/03/2015 11:41

to be honest though. apart from work appropriate issues, STOP APOLOGISING FOR YOUR BODY

its the best thing you will ever have. Just enjoy it

dexter73 · 23/03/2015 11:49

^^ yes to this!

afghanda · 23/03/2015 12:02
  1. I work from home, so work appropriate isn't an issue.
  1. I don't care what anyone else thinks of my body, but I hate the way my arms look in sleeveless things when I catch sight of myself in mirrors or windows, so I'd rather not bare them unless I have to.

lets SEE these horrendous arms

I refuse to accept they are so horrendous

Mrsstevejones · 23/03/2015 12:09

The tops of my arms are my widest point, i really hate them. I am loosing weight but have a looonnggg way to go, they only look nice when i am a size 12 and mid 20s - an age ago!

However part of me is sick of covering up and sweating it out in the summer. I never see people and think how lovely except for the huge arms so this year my mission is, to care less. Still on working that TBF.

That being said would love some nice cover up suggestions.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 23/03/2015 12:13

Ooh interesting. I'm looking to do something with my arms - anything to make the tops smaller. I find that clothing that fits the rest of me is tight across my arms but a larger size looks too big over the rest of me.

I also have scars over my arms, so I'm more aware that people might be looking!

My current plan is to up the gym usage of arm related equipment, both weights and stuff like rowing. No difference yet though.

TheHappinessTrap · 23/03/2015 12:41

I have flabby arms and a "no exercise" commitment. I never wear vests as an outer top. Only things with sleeves. But I'm ok worth others seeing my arms. I figure I give a self esteem boost to those with nice ones!

Floisme · 23/03/2015 12:56

It's sleeves all the way for me - I don't mind my arms so much but hate my elbows. And please don't try and tell me they're beautiful; they're mine so I'll hate them if I want to.

KissyBoo · 23/03/2015 13:04

I burn easily so like to keep my arms covered. I wear gringo shrugs (also call bali shrugs) which are one size and come in many colours and the Boden boat neck light weight top-which has sleeves that come to the elbow and is incredibly cool in hot weather.

LadyGregory · 23/03/2015 13:52

Where do you live, OP? Or are you asking about things to wear on holiday to some scorchingly hot environment? Because I would have said that in the UK we never have heat that forces anyone into sleeveless tops...?

My arms aren't fat, but I never wear sleeveless clothes in any weather, partly because I'm fair skinned and burn easily.

Frostycake · 23/03/2015 15:55

I'm in!

My arms, despite my best dieting and exercise efforts, are not my strong point. They are over-long and well-muscled and decidedly ham-hock-ish if I'm not careful.

I find a light tan helps, as does the careful choice of top or strap.

I like flutter sleeves, angel sleeves and if I'm pushed, thick, wide straps.
On no account should spaghetti straps be worn!

Frostycake · 23/03/2015 16:04

improbablesaint

Here is my arm. It looks like an ostrich leg.

Frostycake · 23/03/2015 16:11

Sorry, don't know why that posted three times!

Here's a better picture showing the true size - as big as my thigh!

FrChewieLouie · 23/03/2015 16:15

Great idea for a thread. I am blessed with (a) flabby upper arms (b) v sensitive skin so can't wear man-made fibres (c) v fair skin that cooks in no time flat. I have tended to shove myself into tunics and leggings, but I'm bored of that now.

I seem to be looking at a lot of blouses lately, like this one: www.landsend.co.uk/Womens_Long_Sleeve_Linen_Fagotting_Trim_Blouse/pp/P_30115.html?cgid=9635

improbablesaint · 23/03/2015 17:02

NOTHING WRONG WITH IT
and lovely young smooth skin

REALLY

Chewbecca · 23/03/2015 17:03

I have bought this silk cape type thing for this very purpose. It's sort of joined up so stays still, doesn't slip off like a wrap/scarf would. & is 100% silk so cool as can be and light as a feather. I'll wear it with a vest and cropped jeans I think.

Chewbecca · 23/03/2015 17:03

& I agree, nothing wrong with the arms in the picture at all.

CMOTGilbertBlythe · 23/03/2015 17:05

thirded, arms look fine to me.
