I've fallen in love with this dress...

I love this dress so much but i am not sure where i would wear it and how practical it would be. Would it look good dressed down in the day with sandals and sunglasses?

Oh i should really stay off that website. I was actually looking for jeans. But i hate jeans so much i always end up with bloody dresses Blush

I have 2 small dc so is it a ridiculous dress to buy, and should i just get some bootcut jeans and mum boots instead?

I just don't think it is a very nice dress - sorry!

Huge fan of maxi dresses though. I wear them loads in the summer.

When I was younger, I used to wear a cotton maxi, a bit oversized grandad knit cardi, giant sunglasses and converse. I thought I looked so cool.

dexter73 · 19/03/2015 18:04

I quite like it but it does look a bit smart for daywear. More a 'going out for a nice lunch' than a 'picnic down the park' dress!

losthermind · 19/03/2015 18:09

How old are you ?
I personally am not a big fan of the dress either to be honest
It looks very much the type of attire for a mature woman in my opinion

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/03/2015 18:09

I'm really sorry but I don't like it. I think you'd get much more wear, and much more of your money's wort, out of a v plain simple maxi instead, or a perfect pair of jeans!

MrsKoala · 19/03/2015 18:12

:(

you are right.

i can't find jeans that don't look shit tho. and all the maxis i've seen are not as fitted and i need structuring/tailoring.

I'm 38

Hmm I'd get more wear out of that dress if it was knee-length, then it could be a good work dress. Maxis are great in summer if they are casual, but that is very smart (and I wouldn't put a £265 dress through the kind of summer I have with loads of camping and small DC). The only place I can see that dress at is something like an art show opening.

If you love it you love it though and I am a great believer in buying what you just LOVE (if you can afford it) as you will tend to get wear out of it.

MagentaMouflon · 19/03/2015 18:14

Maybe you need a jeans intervention? What's the problem?

losthermind · 19/03/2015 18:15

Definitely don't buy this dress then
It doesn't look like it would be flattering on anyone to be honest
Where do you normally like to shop ?

MagentaMouflon · 19/03/2015 18:19

Do you feel jeans are too casual? There are other options, like gap khakis, Boden bistro trousers, etc. that can be everyday wear.

MrsKoala · 19/03/2015 18:21

Ha Magenta, in my old life i used to do events organisation for arts how openings Grin It is exactly the kind of dress i would have worn then. I miss looking nice and not covered in snot :(

I haven't really shopped for 3 yrs. I have had 2 babies in that time so just Mat wear. I have recently lost a stone (thanks to BIWIs BC) and i am eager to get something nice. All my previous clothes are lovely but not suited to my lifestyle.

Most dresses are DVF, i have a bootcut pair of 7 for all mankind pre dc jeans, various tailored 40s style trousers from places like FCUK, Reiss and Jigsaw. I also have some nice Hobbs stuff. I look best groomed and NOT covered in sick

OP posts:
MrsKoala · 19/03/2015 18:24

i am currently wearing gap skinny khakis that i hate. i hate skinny trousers.

OP posts:
MagentaMouflon · 19/03/2015 18:53

Art openings are among the few things I get to dress up for these days :)

Wider jeans are back this year and there are loads of nice ones around. But I like the sound of your Hobbs dresses etc. If you're looking for everyday wear, dresses can be great, I love them. You just have to avoid delicate fabrics. Have you looked at places like Cos, Finery, Anthropologie, Toast?

TheCraicDealer · 19/03/2015 21:22

I like it, but it would be much nicer if knee length. Maybe buy it and get it taken up.....? Grin

Re. jeans, try straight leg. They look good with flats but are that bit more comfortable than skinnies. I'm breaking a pair of skinny jeans in right now; they're so tight around my chubby knees I'm keeping my mobile nearby at all times in case circulation is actually cut off.

Greengardenpixie · 19/03/2015 21:26

I bought this today:

www.anthropologie.eu/anthro/product/sale-shopallsale/7130471680506.jsp#/

Had my eye on it but it was too pricey!! It comes tomorrow!!

BestIsWest · 19/03/2015 21:30

I do like it but it is very Margot Leadbetter. Mind you I always thought her clothes were fantastic.

MrsKoala · 19/03/2015 22:06

Well if you think THAT'S a bit Margo then what about these (both of which i love too but would never wear)

coooeey Tom

Jerry, Jerry!

They do do the dress in knee length, but i have so many like that already, i liked this because of the length. I also thought it looked quite casual. The kind of dress you'd put over a bikini and wear with flip flops on the beach.

Not keen on that Maxi Green - bit too boho.

tethersend · 19/03/2015 22:14

It's bloody lovely, get it if you can afford it. Would look great with flat tan sandals and gold hoop earrings.

I lust after DVF maxis; however, I don't have the budget. I did get this though, which I love.

Twinklestein · 19/03/2015 22:20

I love DvF, it's maybe not a print that I would choose for myself, but I like it and I think it would look good chopped to knee-length.

Those wrap dresses are v comfortable and versatile.

You can buy jeans any day.

MrsKoala · 19/03/2015 22:21

It IS bloody lovely. Thank you. Finally someone with my taste Wink

ooh i love that dress tethers. i may get it. Grin What is it like length wise? Is the material horribly thin and clingy to my lumpy arse? Does it come up small? I am 5ft 10in and quite broad shouldered but wraps are usually quite good as i can wear a vest and have it a bit bit open across the top half.

OP posts:
tethersend · 19/03/2015 22:24

Seems true to size, fabric not luxurious but decent, good length. Am very happy with it.

if you do get the DVF, don't chop it Shock

Twinklestein · 19/03/2015 22:27

If you're 5'10 OP you can totally pull off a print like the DvF.

I'm only 5'5 with big boobs so I have to be careful with big prints.

MrsKoala · 20/03/2015 07:14

I would never chop it Tethers, don't worry. You can get a knee length one for about £100 less than the full length, so that would be silly. But i like the length of this. I have loads of knee length wrap dresses.

I'm tall and flat chested Twinkle, so i think big prints like this do look quite good on me.

I think i may order it and try it on. I'll post a pic. Then decide. If i don't still love it then i'll send it back.

I have been putting some money aside for the last 2 years (£100 for each birthday and xmas from my parents and the odd ££ here and there from my spends) and have £650 + £100 JL vouchers to spend on myself. I was going to get a Mulberry Hobo bag with the money and jeans with the JL vouchers. But i'm thinking i may get this dress and some summer sandals and put the bag off for a couple of years till the dc are bigger.

superbfairywren · 20/03/2015 08:00

I really like the dress and the print but it would be more versatile if they did a sleeveless maxi version. The knee length sleeveless version is lovely and also on sale. I really love the strappy wrap dvf max is with the cross over backs. Might get more wear out of something like that as it can be dressed down and up.

MrsKoala · 20/03/2015 08:13

i don't think i know the ones you mean superb. can you link?

i like sleeveless on other people - not me tho. i hate my upper arms and rarely wear them bare. so when i but a sleeveless dress i just wear cardis/jumpers over them and ruin the look or just never wear them at all Blush .

At 5'10" with your body shape you'll look stunning in the dress. Why don't you order it, try it on & you can always send it back it if doesn't look amazing.
