Anyone else with this bra problem

cartoontrickster · 19/03/2015 15:53

I find most bras seem to come up to high in the arm pit and pinch a bit but at the front rather than in the actual pit iyswim. I struggle to find a flattering and comfortable bra, even then they seems ok when I first put then on but by the end of the day the cups are gapping. it's as if my boobs have sank down.
I have a Cleo Jude that is awful the wires dig into my boobs in the middle and the cups gape. it does nothing for me no matter how much I scrape myself in haha.
I think I measure 29 and 37 around boob. my most recent purchases have been 28ff a g seems too big. my 30f bras gape in the cup.
any suggestions of styles I could try??
I tried 8 or 9 styles on my last trip and found one that was comfortable.

Op when you find 'your' style (mine is a balconette or half balconette) you'll be amazed as generally (you can try other styles) the fit and cut suits your breasts so well! I was staggered because for years I'd just enveloped my boobs in what fitted not necessarily flattering styles!

cartoontrickster · 25/03/2015 20:43

I have another question if anyone Is still around. you can always see the full outline of my bra indentation when I take it off and it often looks like the wire sits a good centimetre or so under where my boob actually starts and even further away around the side, is this right?
I also get a bigger back measurement if I do it in the evening is that because of bloating throughout the day?

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 25/03/2015 21:48

Seeing the bra outline at the end of the day is, IMO, fairly normal if it fits - its a bit like the line you get from the elastic at the top of socks or tights. But, the wire being about 1cm or more below and well outside your breast tissue is more of a concern. That could be a number of things but my first instinct is that the bras you are wearing aren't the right shape for your breasts but are a little too wide and a little too shallow - when this is the case you get what's called "orange in a glass" effect where your breast tissue can't get right down to the very bottom of the wire/cup. Have a good look with your bra on to see if this is the case?

cartoontrickster · 26/03/2015 07:32

dammit I think you are right about the Orange in a glass Blush . how does this keep going so wrong. I wonder if I should stop telling the bra fitters my size and see what they put me in. I ways get the fit checked but they still never seem to be right.
also most of the time I can still see the marks from my bra the next day.

I hate to say it but you know the unlined cleo Minnie/Millie/Lily we were discussing upthread...they might be a really good bra on you.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/03/2015 09:42

There is also an aspect that the closer you get to the right bra, the more details and flaws you notice - so when you are in a 34D or whatever it's just all wrong, but you don't notice exactly what it is. Then you get the size but not the style...

cartoontrickster · 26/03/2015 09:46

I thought you might say that! ok I will get myself A Minnie to try.
I really appreciate you taking the time to help me. I need you with me in the bra shops haha!

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 26/03/2015 09:49

If you can, order a few different sizes around your estimated size - it's really helpful to see the same bra in multiple sizes to get it spot on

The material on the Minnie is lovely. Very soft and silky.

GunShotResidue · 26/03/2015 11:02

I think I have this problem! I get the wire mark quite far below my boobs, and really far away round the side.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/03/2015 11:49

Guns you need a narrower more projected cup like the cleo or ewa michalak

Fink · 26/03/2015 12:11

I will now only wear bras from Rigby and Peller (and I don't have anything else in my entire wardrobe that is high end or designer ... my coats all come from charity shops). They are amazing. They fit like no other piece of underwear I've ever owned and the staff actually know what they're selling.

And they have a sale about twice a year, which makes things slightly more affordable. I went from having about 20 different cheap-ish bras to having 4 really good ones (currently 3 because one's worn out, but I'll get another one at the next sale).

There is a branch in Bluewater, I believe (not been to it myself).

GunShotResidue · 26/03/2015 13:27

Thank you, I'll have a look at those :)

cartoontrickster · 26/03/2015 14:14

some of the reviews of the Minnie on bravissimo say the band is small. I can't afford to order more than a couple of sizes so wondering what to go for. I usually think that unlined bras seem bigger in the cup is the Minnie like that?

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 26/03/2015 15:02

I do wear the same band size in Cleo as in Freya, and I see you've already got a 28FF Cleo too. I'm thinking try the 28FF and 28G, and if you can manage it maybe a 30FF too? I'm going to guess the 28FF may be the one tbh

28FF in black for £19
Lily in 28FF for £13.50
All sizes in the middle version for £18

^^a few sales ones i'd spotted , might help!

cartoontrickster · 26/03/2015 15:14

thank you so much! I am determined to find ' the one'

update- the Lily bra arrived today from Amazon, no minnies left when I came to order later that day. for the most part it's perfect, much better on the cups and the straps don't rub my armpits. but the mesh detail feels like it may be a little scratchy and the band is more on the tight side of snug. damn I was sure the 28ff would be right. if I'm honest a 28 does always feel tight at first and I do at times get red marks where bras have rubbed I always get the fitters to check my bras in bravissimo so I've always assumed they would tell me if the band seemed to tight but perhaps not.
unsure now whether to order the Lily in a 30f or try a Minnie which I have found on figleaves and get a refund on the Lily.

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 30/03/2015 18:50

The Lily can feel a little scratchy to begin with, although I never find it feels scratchy when it's on. Mine also loosened off in the band.

I think if at all possible I'd order a 30F but do so before you send the 28FF back so you can compare them directly. There is no difference between the cuts of Lily and Minnie.

cartoontrickster · 30/03/2015 19:54

thanks stat that's what I have decided to do after ummming and ahhhing all afternoon! realised it's cheaper to order directly from the company rather than through Amazon so will get a 30f from them to try. out of interest are there any others that are similar cut to Lily and Minnie?

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 30/03/2015 20:07

There are quite a few which are similar - the one to avoid is the Lucy (and sister cuts like the Kali) which is designed for a very different breast shape and is very shallow. The Marcie is also a different cut which suits a bit more upper fullness so might not suit you

Most of the other unpadded Cleos have a similar cut though- that I can think of there is/has been Millie, Meg, Erin, Melissa, Bella, Alexa, Zia, Maya, Pixie, Izzie, Nyla - basically look for unpadded Cleos which have a band under the front (unlike the Lucy where the shape at the bottom front follows the wires, you'll see what I mean if you google the pics)

This page shows the latest cleos, but there are hoards of the older ones available online - brastop, mycurvesandme, belle lingerie, amazon, figleaves, ebay etc will all help

try the website Her Room. it helps to findtypes of bra based on your own body. it then gives advice and a range of bras to suit whatever problems you have.

cartoontrickster · 01/04/2015 18:26

thanks queenie I will check it out.
the 30f Lily arrived today, much more comfortable in the band but the cups wrinkle slightly.
I think this is as good as I'm going to get so just need to decide which size I'm going to keep.
