Please recommend cheap toiletry and beauty products

Money will be really tight for a while. Can anyone recommend any cheap toiletry or beauty products they genuinely feel are good. I'm mainly thinking of things like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, shower gel, body lotion, deodorant, feminine care, face cleanser and moisturizer, spot treatment for DD.

Waitrose essentials shampoo £1. I don't have dry hair, I just like the smell. It's outstanding.

Spot treatment - crushed up aspirin mixed with a little water.

slippermaiden · 17/03/2015 11:39

Best advice I can offer is buy whatever is on half price or special offer. Works for me.

NecklessMumster · 17/03/2015 11:43

Original Source shower gels as they are usually £1 in home bargains. Nivea Soft moisturiser

McFox · 17/03/2015 11:44

Almond oil as cleanser and blue Nivea as moisturiser. You get get 2 bottles of the oil in the holland & Barrett penny sale for £6 and it will last about a year. The Nivea is £3/4 for a big tub and should last about the same amount of time. I use both and my skin is lovely Smile

Cariad007 · 17/03/2015 11:44

I'm fussy about shampoo and conditioner but pretty much everything else on your list can be bought at Poundland or the 99p Store. Quite often it's the same stuff sold at Boots for twice the price.

mowglik · 17/03/2015 11:52

Not sure how cheap you are after but my favourites: palmers cocoa butter for body lotion, olive oil and castor oil for cleanser, aspirin for spots, imperial leather shower gels smell gorgeous and agree 99p shops for the rest eg toothpaste, shampoos
Mitchum roll on is amazing too. Buy these on offer if you can

Goodmum1234 · 17/03/2015 11:56

After using clarins £25 moisturiser for years I swapped for boots cucumber moisturiser often on 3 for 2 about £1.50 each!!. Been using for two years now and my skin is great. I'm 38, suffered dreadfully from acne all my life but this simple cream does not bother it, in fact soothes it. The lotion is lovely and the tub is thicker and creamier so I use a mixture if both. Hth x

I use Nivea face products and also neutrogena stuff for my blackheads. It's always on special offer at either boots or the supermarkets and I never have to pay full price.

Shower gel, I used to use radox which is regularly on offer at £1 in boots. Now I use sanex as I've got really dry skin but that's often half price too. For dh I buy stuff from aldi.

Sanitary wise I just buy whatever is on offer.

Toothpaste is regularly on offer everywhere too.

Pound shops are often your friend but I don't have one near so have to drive to one which kind of negates the point.

Goodmum1234 · 17/03/2015 11:59

Oh and dove soap for face and body only, no extra cash spent on shower gel (which can clog up the shower pipe) x

ZoomZoomToTheMoon · 17/03/2015 11:59

Superdrug own brand, especially the vitamin e and anti-spot ranges, I use both and they are great. Not only cheap, but they often have 2 for 1 offers as well.

For shower gel I like the Original Source ones which smell really nice and not cheap, but you can often get them for BOGOF or half price in big supermarkets.

ZoomZoomToTheMoon · 17/03/2015 12:00

Sorry what I mean is they don't smell cheap. But they are cheap - I got several for £1 each recently.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 17/03/2015 12:02

Sainsbury's own Apple Conditioner. Lovely and dirt cheap. Plus it's silicone free.

Superdrug Radiance Hot Cloth Cleanser (or the Vit E version if you prefer), always on offer and v reasonable.

Asda have the NSpa range which I think is very good - love the Melting Gel Oil Cleanser.

Coconut oil for basically everything! Balm, hair oil, cleansing, shaving...lasts forever.

Yes to Boots cucumber skin products! Especially the clay mask, great for oily skin.

Mostlyjustaluker · 17/03/2015 12:11

Superdrug own shower gel and deodorant are good and are often on special offer.

Own brand stuff is often good. Non applicator own brand tampons are always the same as branded. Boots own sanitary towels are ok, I don't buy these often. Boots cucumber face scrub and face mask are good.

Tesco value toothpaste is good and has the same amount of fluoride in as Colgate ect.

Naicecuppatea · 17/03/2015 12:15

I buy bath foam and decant it into shower gel bottles, its the same stuff and works out a bit cheaper.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 17/03/2015 12:17

Oh and spot treatment - Greased Lightning from Lush doesn't seem cheap at the point of purchase but it lasts FOREVER as you only need a tiny tiny bit. It's in a pump so doesn't contaminate the whole pot like a wand, and is gentle but really effective. I think it works out much cheaper in the long run.

/does not work for Lush, honest

ShoesieQ · 17/03/2015 17:08

Only thing I'd add is baby oil - works better for me that body lotion and is as cheap as chips

Lardylassnomore · 17/03/2015 19:44

Boots 59 p ( or around that mark) hand wash
Aldi do body lotion too. Never tried it but worth asking other posters about

BallroomWithNoBalls · 17/03/2015 20:29

MUA at Superdrug for lipsticks, eyeshadows and blushers. Cheap as chips - lippies are £1.

tearoomtrash · 17/03/2015 21:15

Nivea soft (use on face and hands), Montagne Jeunesse face masks, Coconut oil as a hair treatment, Poundland nail varnishes,
Aldi aqueous creme for body

Chimichangaz · 17/03/2015 22:17

Aldi body lotion is my fave Lardy (my best friend has that nickname :) )

I use the anti aging burgundy coloured one - it's about 1.40 for a big bottle, lovely and thick but soaks in well.

cogitosum · 17/03/2015 22:19

Nivea BB cream. Better than the clarins one I used to use.

£1 radox for shampoo as I love the smell.

Aveeno is amazing

RedKites · 17/03/2015 22:36

I don't know what hair type you have, but I've been using this Tescos coconut conditioner to cowash my dry, curly hair. Personally I wouldn't be able to use this all the time, but it means I use my normal shampoo and conditioner less. And it's only 80p a bottle, so might be worth a try if you have similar hair.

starfish4 · 18/03/2015 10:33

Thanks for your replies - I have made a list and will check your suggestions out when passing and certainly try a lot of them. Obviously any other suggestions are welcome still.
