I like this but will I look ridiculous?

Topshop white shirt

I am only 5'2, size 10-12, big norks and very, very pale. But I love it. Opinions, please!

I'm sorry, I don't like it. Even with the outfit you suggest, it's dangerously Sharon Watts.

Oversize shirts are a hard look to pull off.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/03/2015 16:09

Who the bloomin' heck is Sharon W?

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 15/03/2015 16:27

I am the same height as you Remus and what strikes me is the dipped hem at the back is almost down to the model's knees and in danger of making people of our height look stumpy (even with heels) Sad

Because of where the pockets are a belt might not work.

Sorry, I can see how you think it is a thing of beauty though...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/03/2015 16:30

I wouldn't belt it. I look awful in belts.

Please find me something similar but shorter!

I have tried it on btw and quite liked it. In a 10 it was a good fit, and not baggy. The fabric feels lovely. DD2 said it looked nice, but that I looked a bit like a little boy in it!

Eastenders, innit?

I like this but will I look ridiculous?
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/03/2015 16:39

Yikes.

If it helps at all, I am probably about a third of her size! :)

Hmm... No offence, but I think it is possible that this could make one look like a fridge. Particularly if the fabric is at all stiff.

It's always worth a try, though, if you can swing free delivery.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/03/2015 17:54

None taken. Last time I looked, I didn't have an awful lot in common with a fridge, I don't think! Grin

The fabric isn't terribly stiff. It's a sort of stretchy cotton. But I think I do need shorter.

I've just found this pic on the All Worn Out blog. Not the same shirt but a similar 'feel' to the one in my OP. And if I got a 10 it wouldn't be as slouchy as it's worn here. And I'd deffo put a jacket over it, which would presumably negate any lab coat resemblance? This maybe?

In Next Clearance they have a white Boxy shirt. It comes to just below hip level on me (same height) and is flattering. Would work with what you suggest and is £12.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/03/2015 18:09

My first thought was Sharon Watts too Grin

I like it, but I wouldn't wear with a tuxedo jacket unless it's a really long frock coat stylee.

I'm taller but bigger than you.
YY to dark skinnies and heels and a fitted camisole vest underneath ( have to be industrial scaffolding for me) then wear the shirt slightly undone.

woodhill · 15/03/2015 18:12

I find the collarless shirts which button lower down make my boobs look enormous. I have slim shoulders and not a massive chest but this style seems to emphasise them.

Bunbaker · 15/03/2015 18:16

I'm not sure. I have seen the shirt in RL in the shop and on one of the shop assistants. She was tall and very slim and she looked fantastic in it. I'm inclined to think that it will make you look rather matronly. Sorry.

Mitlillehus · 15/03/2015 18:19

no to that shirt.

Mitlillehus · 15/03/2015 18:21

a much more flattering shirt from mintvelvet

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/03/2015 18:24

I like it but fear at the same height as you I'm too short for it.

MrsFlannel · 15/03/2015 18:27

Can you find similar in a petite range OP?

VolumniaDedlock · 15/03/2015 18:37

I like it a lot, would definitely wear it myself with cigarette pants and either boots or trainers. no belt.

I love longer shirts with skinnies and think this look suits me. I am however 5'9 with almost no breasts, so don't get the matronly bosom thing happening.

Hassled · 15/03/2015 18:40

I was given one that is very similar - am also petite and yes, on me it looks ridiculous. I was thinking heels and skinny jeans and it would work, but it really doesn't. It's like a weird sort of "not a dress but dress length" thing.

Kittykatmacbill · 15/03/2015 19:18

I bought something that has a similar length and shaped hem from gap in blue linen last autumn. I am 5'2, have huge honkers and am solid of shoulder. It doesn't make me look like a fridge more a tanker. I do wear it, much to dh ire, as it handy to breast feed in... Some of the more fitted shirts esps the pink one are lovely!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/03/2015 20:00

Thanks all.

Grey MV one is nice but really don't like the pink. However, I want a white one!

How about this one? The fabric is cotton, so it should feel nicer than so many of the synthetic tops out there. There is a breast pocket, but only one and it is very flat and almost unnoticeable!

Could this be a good alternative?

Jomole · 15/03/2015 20:50

I am waiting for this to arrive www.mintvelvet.co.uk/ivory-slim-shirt/tops/mint-v/fcp-product/3770 I loved the way the collar sat with buttons done up. V nice

Instituteofstudies · 15/03/2015 20:59

Remus I have this topshop one and it's really flattering. Lovely soft cotton. I am 5'1" and 32FF so rarely find a shirt that suits me. This one really does though. It looks great under a jumper, on its own with leggings or skinny jeans. It goes just to the bottom of my bum

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/03/2015 21:01

Zara one too school shirt-ish, and MV one has double pockets (no good) and isn't the look I'm after generally. Want proper white cotton look, not shiny.
