Fat, frizzy haired apple needs two dresses for events in July. Help!

To make it even worse, I hate the heat. I have pale skin, green eyes and dark hair. The only redeeming feature might be very well toned legs and (to a lesser extent) arms. The buggeration is that it's too formal to show leg.
I'm thinking shift dresses. Has anyone seen some good ones?

What cash can you throw at it?
Tittage?
How formal? I wear short to everything except white tie

SilverHawk · 13/03/2015 20:22

Right.. deep breath.. tittage is the problem, 18 up top Blush and size 12 in jeans (on hips!).
£300 tops as I might have the accessories.
It's not a wedding, races, etc nor is it white tie.
By showing leg, I should say that I'm 5'8" and most dresses are rather short. In a casual setting I'm more than happy in minis, tights and boots.
BUT as it's July I'm stuck :(

Looking at your list of "it's not..." I'm thinking you are at Buck House fir investiture or garden party. In which case floaty 2 piece from BHS or Planet depending on budget is the way to go Wink. You'll need a big Hat tho...

SilverHawk · 13/03/2015 20:34

Sorry to disappoint you sassy. I need the dresses for two similar events on consecutive days. I'm not tripping along to the Palace twice.

RonaldMcDonald · 13/03/2015 20:41

jaegar?

SilverHawk · 13/03/2015 20:52

Ronald, that is a gorgeous dress and I would wear it but there is nothing left in my size :(
I really like it. Anything else similar lurking around?

OP posts:
traviata · 13/03/2015 20:52

with curves like that it sounds like pepperberry might suit you.

Sorry Ronald, I have been an 18 up top and there is nothing that Jaeger has ever made that would fit or suit that amount of bosom. The dress you linked to is lovely but appears to be designed for a beanpole.

lavendersun · 13/03/2015 20:55

I like the odd thing at Jaeger but I always have a look at the outlet first

Silver have you thought of having something made to fit you? You could have a lovely dress made for less than your budget, even if your fabric costs £40pm if will probably come in under £250.

sassytheFIRST · 13/03/2015 21:05

I'm similar in shape actually, and agree with having something made. The other possibility might be the Vivian of Holloway 50s look though I always think id look like I had a bolster up my top myself. Disclaimer: never tried one on.

sassytheFIRST · 13/03/2015 21:05

Pepperberry is a good idea but the quality ain't great for the price ime.

RonaldMcDonald · 13/03/2015 21:10

old?

RonaldMcDonald · 13/03/2015 21:12

love!

SilverHawk · 13/03/2015 21:16

I don't really have curves, well, not in the right places. I used to go in a bit but think swimmer shape/parsnip!
I'd feel awfully guilty having a dress made for me as I do sew a lot of clothing.
East used to fit me quite well but they've gone all hippy this year with nothing plain.
I shall have a look at Jaeger outlet. The dress that Ronald suggested wasn't a 'no' as I don't have 'huge' boobs but I am broad. Everything would need trying on anyway.
I can never be petite airy fairy flouncy but don't want to look like a brick.

this would work if the band is high enough

RonaldMcDonald · 13/03/2015 21:20

tits are good

RonaldMcDonald · 13/03/2015 21:22

I like this

SilverHawk · 13/03/2015 21:22

Ronald, thank you for having a look around. The lilac one is awful.
The second one is like the Sewing Bee top from last nights final. Is the colouring too dark for July?

OP posts:
RonaldMcDonald · 13/03/2015 21:26

I hate the lilac too but loads of people trot out in stuff like that
Soz
Dunno about the sewing thing.....I think it's a good dress for your shape and a summer 'do'

SilverHawk · 13/03/2015 21:26

OOOOOh, like the silk Fenn.

OP posts:
SilverHawk · 13/03/2015 21:32

There's a lighter Gina Bacconi dress with squiggles is it the same?
It's a good shape.
The Fenn might be a silk sack :( Love the colours though. I'd need a wrap/shawl perhaps.

OP posts:
RonaldMcDonald · 13/03/2015 21:42

biba

RonaldMcDonald · 13/03/2015 21:46

boring but nice prob

RonaldMcDonald · 13/03/2015 21:55

linen

SilverHawk · 13/03/2015 22:07

No, to the Biba and the Kaliko. Crea is interesting. I've never heard of them. A very unusual neckline and cut. Is it too casual, or does the cut elevate it?

You don't need a dress. You need to join the MN feminist boards. Your value does not lie in smooth hair or your weight. I'm sure you are lovely, just as you are.
