To make it even worse, I hate the heat. I have pale skin, green eyes and dark hair. The only redeeming feature might be very well toned legs and (to a lesser extent) arms. The buggeration is that it's too formal to show leg.
I'm thinking shift dresses. Has anyone seen some good ones?

That Crea wool dress with the zips is ace. Just the thing. I'm hoping they do summer versions.

Skater You are quite right, my value does not lie in my hair or body. I will dress as I choose.
If 'I' want to dress for an event, 'I' want to dress appropriately. 'I' don't want to upset hosts or other guests by turning up in dungarees and making a statement. Feel free to do so yourself, I'm over that. The days will not be about me so I need to blend in, not stand out.

My SIL is a similar shape to you and wears a lot of separates as it breaks up the body. Have you thought about say a pencil skirt with a looser blouse?

(As an aside, I spent the last weekend at Women of the World Festival with some of the most inspiring feminists in the world. They all wore clothes - and many of them wore very nice clothes Grin)

SilverHawk · 13/03/2015 22:44

I live in separates and could easily wear a pencil skirt (prefer mini Grin).

I love the idea of buying something special for the occasion/s as I'm sure Women of the World 'might' have done. At least they are not going backwards in time.

Skater you can be a feminist AND want to look good too!

Would this suit an apple shape? www.jaegeroutlet.com/Wool-Panelled-Shift-Dress/630177J,en_GB,pd.html?dwvar_630177J_color=10100&dwvar_630177J_size=14&start=115&cgid=women-dresses-outlet
It's not in my size though :(

I also like this one www.jaegeroutlet.com/Virgin-Wool-V-Neck-Dress/630158J,en_GB,pd.html?dwvar_630158J_color=05000&dwvar_630158J_size=12&start=88&cgid=women-dresses-outlet
Has anyone seen anything like these but more summery?
Am I deluding myself?

LK Bennett? im crap at links, but they have some nice dresses..Im an apple shape and its my go-to shop for weddings/events etc

SilverHawk · 18/03/2015 18:54

skyler, what do you think of the Ross notch collar dress?
Which ones are good for apples in your opinion?

skylerwhite1 · 18/03/2015 19:07

Love the Ross Notch !. You could jazz it up with some nice jewellery. It looks really nice on the model too. Think LK cut suits thicker waists. They don't sit on waist but below boobs (so goes in at narrowest part of body. IYKWIM. A personal shopper got me in on LK B, If you can do it get Personal Shopper, they might get you to try things on outside your comfort zone but be fab on.

IDismyname · 18/03/2015 19:15

I'm looking for similar outfits, too, but slightly different shape.

Ive seen quite a lot of Gina Bacconi outfits that would do for you, and also check out James Lakeland, too
James L

SilverHawk · 18/03/2015 19:16

The model is a size 10 so it won't look like that on me :(
You make a good point about where it sits on the torso. A true empire line can look awful.

SilverHawk · 18/03/2015 19:20

Ishould, I've never heard of James Lakeland (which is good). The Gina Bacconi seem to be everywhere and just don't 'grab' me too similar to other dresses.
