Rosacea help facial routine/products advice

Hi

I suffer from rosacea and I have &70 to spend on a new skin care routine. I have tried Eucerin (sic?) but it makes the redness worse.

I was using Rosehip oil but that caused me to break out.

Can anyone tell me what they have found best for their skin?

I'm fed up of spending my money on things that don't seem to help!

Thanks! Smile

Has any found the hot cloth treatment to be any good? Lots of posters on here seem to rave about it!

Recently diagnosed here so will watch with interest.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/03/2015 13:32

I have found taking anti inflammatory oils for another condition (chronic hives) has helped the rosacea too. I take evening primrose oil, omega 7 and omega 3. The best thing for my face that I've tried recently has been the Suti facial oil, I had it as a Christmas present, but have just bought another bottle, as although it contains rosehip oil it didn't make me break out and my skin was happy.
The other thing that has really worked for me is the Dr Hauschka night treatment to desentitise skin that you use a couple of times a year. it is quite expensive, but if my skin has been very reactive then this has really worked and calmed it down for months. I have mild roscea, celtic reactive very fair skin, delicate normal to dehydrated, just in case that helps!

Quitelikely · 11/03/2015 13:52

Thanks will have a google of those products

Do look into the demodex theory of rosacea!

Mild rosacea here, in remission atm (feezing cold and wind seem to make it worse) so cannot recommend specific routines. Have you seen a dermatologist?

daftyburd · 11/03/2015 14:53

Dermalogica was very good for my rosacea. However bit skint at moment so trying hot cloth with acid toner. It smarts a bit the toner but in just a fortnight what a difference. Spots cleared up and redness going away. My other half said my skin was shiny and lovely yesterday. For the last couple of mornings I like my face in the mirror.
Before hot cloth my skint self was using cetaphil which was ok at first but then my spots got really bad.

daftyburd · 11/03/2015 15:25

Should add the acid toner is liquid gold. I got a travel size as bit spendy for me. I was also worried my skin would react badly as very sensitive. It's miracle stuff. I will budget for a full size somehow. In just a week of using every alternate evening I have gone from thick green concealer/paper bag over head to Zoolander. I can't pass a mirror Smile

BrokenCircleBreakdown · 11/03/2015 16:07

dafty where do get your acid toner from please? And what do you do with the hot cloth-just stick it on your face for a bit?
I stupidly changed my moisturiser for one with spf in last week and it's upset my rosacea really badly.
I like Zenmed's support serum but it's quite £

daftyburd · 11/03/2015 16:25

I got the travel size liquid gold on amazon. Going to check qvc now for the full size. I just leave the cloth on my face and very gently rub. Then repeat. The cleanser I use is just superdrug hot cloth. DD has bought me Lush Ultrabland for Mother's Day

daftyburd · 11/03/2015 16:27

Oh and I'm going to try city block for SPF. Now I don't need a thick mask of makeup Smile

OracleofDelphi · 11/03/2015 16:33

I have had this for 3 years and have found that the less I do in general with my skin the better it is..... I use hot cloths in my skin ( hot water in sink, squeeze flannel out and put over your face and gently rub in circular motions). I wear makeup every day but only use a cleanser every 3rd or 4th day . I use Emma Hardie moringa cleansing balm in those days . Then I use aldi moisturiser and if it flares before I go to sleep I cover my cheeks in sudocreme! It works great at reducing redness and getting rid of spots . Mine is also less bad since i gave up wine.... Sad.... If you do hot cloth cleansing it's really important to use a clean flannel every day . I used to use every new product going on mine , but the less I do the better it is .

Four125 · 11/03/2015 16:38

I've had it for a few years now and have tried lots of things.
Mine is worse now in the winter and generally better in the summer.

I used the Liz Earle hot cloth but that made it angry.

Rosacea Care didn't work.

I don't think I have the demodex type because Tea-tree made it angry, sore and worse than ever.

Antibiotics didn't work, I take oils daily but I don't think they're having much effect either.

At the moment I'm applying Cetaphil liberally twice a day, it's pink but not really red or raised.

In the summer I'll go back to Clinique Redness Solutions, I don't think it's moisturising enough for my skin in winter.

I cleanse every day with Clearasil Skin Perfecting Wash.

I haven't found a complete solution yet but it's under control.

Foundation is a nightmare, if anyone knows of a liquid foundation that doesn't inflame it I'd be grateful to know!

Quitelikely · 11/03/2015 17:32

Thanks guys.

I was thinking of buying some of that double wear serum people on here are always mentioning, I forget what it's called! Does anyone else use a serum that has been ok with their skin?

It's almost £50 and is hate to buy it only to find out it irritates my skin!

It's the clarins one I think

OP posts:
SirVixofVixHall · 11/03/2015 20:48

The clarins serum suits my skin well, I'm usually ok with Clarins but recently used a night cream that I reacted to, it has an ingredient in (methosomething or other, ridiculously long hard-to-pronounce name!) that is often flagged up as a major cause of skin problems, and certainly it caused me issues. But the serum has been fine. It is a bit more perfumed than it used to be though, which I'm not keen on, so I haven't bothered with it for a few years. Suncream is a big problem for me as I react to chemical blocks. So the city block 25 is fine but not the higher one as it has methoxycinnimate in, which my skin doesn't like. Oxybenzone sends my skin haywire. I am best with physical blocks, but it is hard to find ones for the face that have a good texture and don't make me look like Ronald McDonald (I wear red lipstick)...and have curly hair.

maytheforcebewithme · 11/03/2015 21:26

Mine is under control - I was diagnosed 4 years ago and have only had that initial flare up.

I use La Roche Posay which is excellent. They have a Rosacea range, but I use a different LRP range now. They're not fancy but they work. And they are reasonable. Boots recently had a buy 2 get one free off on - may still have? I use a lovely creamy/milky cleanser from them.

Be careful of hot cloths. Heat is very likely a trigger. Ditto red wine and spicy food, and saunas/steam rooms. I do use a muslin cloth for the cleanser, but I am careful not to have it too hot, and I always do a cold sweet afterwards.

Liz Earle tinted moisturiser with SPF. SPF50 in Summer months (this sucks as am also vit D deficient).

As a PP said, less is more with regards products.

mandy214 · 11/03/2015 21:33

I suffer from it too but its localised in a patch just on one side of my face. I have found La Roche Posay has cleared it (after a recommendation on here) and that moisturising seems to improve it which I find slightly bizarre.

Amybabygypsyqueen · 11/03/2015 21:39

I have seen the dermatology consultant last week who put me on antibiotics and finacea gel. I'm to use the gel twice per day and aveeno cream for a moisturiser if absolutely necessary.

He also said avoid hot drinks, hot water on face and anything the makes you flushed eg alcohol. It's cleared massively if I could put photos on here I would. I feel great and my skin is beautiful- it was horrific

FrugalFashionista · 11/03/2015 21:44

Maytheforce, I'm the same. Years since the flareup but hot cloth and steam would definitely make things worse, as does freezing cold air and splashing with cold water. Minimal routines work for me, love LRP basics, but haven't tried the Roseliac range. Sunlight seems to help and keep me symptom free as long as I remember SPF.

DarkNavyBlue · 12/03/2015 00:40

Have you tried glycolic acid products? I had a Jan Marini facial and then used the products and my rosacia cleared up overnight. I'd had red skin and pustules for a year before I tried that.

Superworm · 12/03/2015 07:15

I finally managed to get rid of mine after 5 years. I've tried all sorts including antibiotics.

What's worked is putting as little on my face as possible. I use this face cleanser to wash my face and remove make-up. It's amazing. Roche-possey face cream and bare minerals make up
applied with antibacterial brushes. I apply Alezic cream twice a day (on prescription) which works like an exfoliator .

The biggest thing for me has been stopping red wine. I only drank half a glass a night but it's pretty much completely vanish since stopping. I think finding your triggers are key to getting I top of it tbh.

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 12/03/2015 07:20

Get yourself to YouTube. Lisa Eldridge has a couple of videos about covering Rosacea with make up. But she talks about some products she puts on before the make up to help with the skin redness. I've got an avene anti-redness cream in my head, I think it's what she uses.

thenextday · 12/03/2015 07:30

I get pustular roseacea, usually after sun exposure. I only started getting it when I was 50.
So my skin isn't red, I get spots sporadically especially in the "marionette line" area by my mouth.
I use dermalogica ultracalming wash and age smart moisteriser.
When I get a flareip All over my face ( dozens of pustules) nothing works but time. It subsides after about 4 days.

coffeenut · 12/03/2015 08:28

BIG yes to jan marini. The bioglycolic lotion. Try it.

daftyburd · 12/03/2015 11:59

I should add when I say I hot water cleanse it is more tepid water cleanse. Another one who had to give up the red wine. I drank it at Christmas and Boxing Day and within a few days had a terrible flare up. I used to drink energy drinks and I found my skin really reacted to them too.
