my mum swears by it. the soap bit is really good ans the moisturiser is great too, havent used step 2!

mateychops · 27/10/2006 10:29

I used to use Clinique 3 step, until my beautician told me they used to put acetone into the toner, hence the reason why your skin feels really tight. The rest of the stuff is fine, I love Clinique make-up, but you might try chaning toner if your skin is blotchy.

nailpolish · 27/10/2006 10:37

no, my skin was blotchy before, i am thinking of trying th e 3 step to sort it out

The girls on the Clinique county, btw, will tell you this is all part of the process, the cycle of skin, blablablabla (I'm the mug that normally hands over half the housekeeping in the vain hope that they might be telling the truth, but I still look like Thora Hurd

Yes, but the white coats make them think they're part of the medical profession

merrily · 27/10/2006 12:26

I hate the Clinique 3-step stuff - I found the soap and toner made my skin really dry and tight, and the moisturiser just seemed to sit on my skin and make my t-zone look greasy.

Much prefer Clarins - especially the multi-active daily moisturiser and the purifying face mask.

Alas I am poor at the moment so have to make do with Olay...

KathyDCLXVI · 27/10/2006 12:29

Clinique has some of the most advanced pseudo-science of any of the major skincare brands.... anyone else had their skin type decided on the Clinique 'skin computer'?

If you do try it, a word of advice - go for a more sensitive/drier skintype than they tell you you need - almost everyone I know who has ever tried Clinique (me included) finds it is harsher than they make out.

mateychops · 27/10/2006 12:41

I've also heard some of the Clinique counter staff are on secondment from NASA.

KathyDCLXVI · 27/10/2006 14:03

LOL Mateychops.

i used it for 2 years then couldn't afford it anymore. i loved the moisturiser, but found olay beauty fluid was just as good for my skin.

nailpolish · 27/10/2006 14:36

bugger

ill not bother then

i just thought maybe it would be good for my sensitive skin

is clarins much more expensive?

I used it years ago - the first proper skin care stuff I ever bought and i bought the whole system. A week later went to Clarins as my skin was a bit dry and she was horrified - told me my skin looked burnt! Have avoided it since although have used bits other than the 3-step system. That Dramatically Diff Moisturiser gave me the most awful painful spots too at a later stage.

nailpolish · 27/10/2006 14:40

but is clarins any more expensive than clinique

OP posts:
KathyDCLXVI · 27/10/2006 14:41

not much.

nailpolish · 27/10/2006 14:42

great!

Queenmummy · 27/10/2006 15:14

I used to use it, but find it too harsh on the skin (love the Clinique make-up though). I now use Clarins when I can afford it, and Olay or Nivea when money is a bit tight!

nailpolish · 27/10/2006 15:15

how come it is so popular then? no-one has praised it here yet!

shall try clarins

Clinique facial wash and mosturiser a much better bet IMO... also they do the most amazing make up, I agree. Too bad I'm broke...

nailpolish · 27/10/2006 15:17

oh yes i do loooooooooooove clinique make up

is clarins good for sensitive skin then? i need to get over this itchy itchy itchy

I used Clinique 3 step in the lead up to my wedding. Began 3 months before. Is was AWFUL. Skin was red and blotchy and tight and dry. I use Clarins now and think it is wonderful. I would recommend that over Clinique skin care any day. I also hate the ladies on those counters. So patronising. They make me feel like crap cos I don't wear much make up. They look at me like they feel sorry for me I am sure. I like Estee Lauder stuff too though that really is too expensive. The lady on the Estee Lauder counter in Debenhams did my wedding make up for free! Was lovely.

Queenmummy · 27/10/2006 15:24

Clarins is the best stuff I think - also, of all the cosmetic companies it is the most ethically-minded (read an article a while ago) - they use loads of plant products and won't use endangered ones, ones where local people use them for food, ones which damage environment in farming methods etc.

fishie · 27/10/2006 15:24

np you are in scotland aren't you? probably just weather, what products are you using atm? i have to use different skincare summer / winter

Skyler · 27/10/2006 15:24

Oh sorry meant to mention my skin is sensitive. The Clarins Beauty Flash Balm works miracles. It is always on my Christmas list.

nailpolish · 27/10/2006 15:24

estee lauder seems a bit fusty old lady to me

why oh why does clinique have such a good reputation then? i had heard they were great for sensitive skin
