Clinique have good marketing I think.
They also do great free gifts so if you buy the skincare you can almost keep yourself in makeup and perfume with the free 'bonustime' packs you get.

They do do some nice products - my favourite ever handcream (can't believe I have a favourite handcream - how sad is that? ) and the 'weather everything' face cream.
But I def prefer Clarins for facial washes etc.

nailpolish · 27/10/2006 16:09

i didnt know they did handcream!

i tried the beauty flash balm once as mum had a free gift of it and i didnt really notice anything

whats the proper way to use that and what is it supposed to do?

I used to use the Clinque clarifying thing (the harshest one) and my skin became very clear, but it did sting a bit. Not keen on their moisturiser. The best one IMO is Estee Lauder Daywear anti-oxidant, but is way too expensive so now I stick to Liz Earle

Clarins is a bit more pricey than Clinique I think, but it's worth it.

The face wash is about £13 IIRC, the multi-active day cream is about £30, and Beauty Flash Balm is about £16. The cheapest I've seen it is in Superdrug.

I would recommend buying the ones specially formulated for dry/sensitive skin - I used to use these during the winter and they worked a treat.

Clarins hand cream is also great. Definitely going on my Christmas list!

merrily · 27/10/2006 17:49

Beauty Flash Balm is supposed to plump up your skin and make it look all radiant and glowing. You just smooth it over your in a thin layer and let it work its magic. They also do a foundation which works in a similar way - called "active radiance" or something like that. It's lovely - I used it on my wedding day, oh so long ago...

Go to the Clarins counter and ask for some testers. Then if it suits you, check TK Maxx, Tesco and possibly Superdrug. I think they all sell some of the Clarins products. I like their perfume in the blue bottle. Like Eau Dynamiste aswell.

Another vote for Liz Earle here too - v good for sensitive skin, too.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 27/10/2006 17:56

But I do agree the Clarins hand cream is fab (Liz Earle one very lovely too).

lemonysnickett · 27/10/2006 19:11

I have used clinique on and off since i was 18 years old...not the toner. have slo used clarins, aveda, body shop vitamin E cream was great..now moved on to Simple moisturiser....still kept clinique soap...this is brilliant..skin feels moisturised all day..have dry skin. recommed it! Try drinkng lots of water and running for an hour or so on the treadmill to release toxins and sweat the impurities out...gurantee it will make a difference to blotchy skin!

Skyler · 27/10/2006 19:17

As merrily says you just smooth the flash balm on instead of or under moisturiser. I use it if I am going out and I feel it really brightens and tightens my skin. Seems to make me look much less tired.

janeite · 27/10/2006 19:30

Hate Clinique skincare, truly vile. The eye make up remover really stings, the moisturiser does nothing and the toner is like turps. Love their makeup though, especially the eyeliners and lipsticks and love, love, love their body butter.

I would definitely recommend the Liz Earle products if your skin is blotchy/sensitive. Iwas recommended it here and it has done wonders for my skin. Probably bit cheaper than clinique if you buy a set, and always get nice free gift like the eye repair stuff which is fab.

mateychops · 30/10/2006 08:49

You can also get Clarins from Semichem, so it's not so expensive as the likes of Boots or Frasers.
