First hair cut in 7months tomorrow. Help. Pic included

I have my first hair cut in 7months tomorrow. The last haircut was a total disaster. The cut itself was fantastic but the hair dresser totally misunderstood and chopped far too much off.
I have been growing it and now it is just annoying, shapeless and mumsy.
What should I ask for tomorrow? I don't want too much off the length as I am trying to grow it as I'm getting married in September and want to be able to do something with it.

Please help me. I know I won't sleep tonight thinking about it.

How do you want to wear your hair when you get married? If you want an up do then maybe try and keep the length but if not, then maybe a jaw length cut would look great as you have great cheekbones.

thenextday · 06/03/2015 23:40

Is that your bedroom? You have a lot of chairs Grin

LeoandBoosmum · 06/03/2015 23:58

Love it as it is, so just a trim :)

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 07/03/2015 00:01

thenextday GrinGrin I was thinking the same!

DarylDixonsDarlin · 07/03/2015 00:03

It looks really nice in that pic? Seriously! If you want to leave some length in it just ask for a tiny bit off the ends, it will defo be long enough to do something nice with it by September - my hair personally grows about half an inch a month, so that would be 3 inches extra length! I would just have regular trims til then if I were you, then maybe something different afterwards?

MetroMonkey · 07/03/2015 00:19

Are you sure you posted the right pic as I think your hair looks great! Was expecting "shapeless and mumsy" but this looks more like something out of Vogue!

I definitely wouldn't take any length off now if you're undecided and don't know what you'll choose to do for your wedding! Rather wait until you feel inspired.

Glittermud · 07/03/2015 00:26

Your hair is lush. Small trim.

BatCrapCrazy · 07/03/2015 05:59

in this pic it has been straightened to within an inch of its life. And it doesn't stay looking like this for long. It is so so thick. It ends up all flicky. It is impossible to get it looking like this everyday. I dont have any pics of what it looks like day to day. I'll put one up this morning. My hair is currently covered in overnight headlice treatment (as a precaution Grin)
I want to be able to spend less that 25mins straightening my hair every morning.
I do want my hair very loosely up for the wedding so I can't have too much off the length

Also it's not my bedroom - it's a hotel room Grin
Here is a pic of my hair after the last hair cut. I liked it but desperately want to grow it longer for the wedding

Don't you just love those days when you have to treat your hair! Do you want to keep your fringe? I think your hair looks great too! But hard to tell without its natural texture. It also looked lovely in the Bob.

SpecificOcean · 07/03/2015 09:41

You're having us on!
Your hair is gorgeous- lovely colour, thick and shiny
I would just have a trim and grow it longer.
Is it wavy? Mine is thick and wavy (bit longer than yours) I wash/straighten it once a week, then go with the wave on the days after when it is calmer and easy to deal with.

BatCrapCrazy · 07/03/2015 10:22

I've just washed and spent 10mins straightening it and it's awful

Excuse the no makeup

I came out looking like a bag of feathers. I'm so disappointed. I'm literally never having my hair cut again.

Is it the cut that is bad or the way they have styled it? I love the way my stylist cuts my hair but don't like how she finishes it, but once I've washed and dried it myself it looks fine. Can you try that?

DarylDixonsDarlin · 09/03/2015 10:59

Oh Bat Sad sorry you have been disappointed. It should grow quite a lot between now and your wedding though, so all is not lost. Id still recommend fairly regular teeny trims to keep it in nice condition, minimal heat styling if you can, if it were me I'd put it up for 6 months and grin and bear it, but I don't know if that will work for you!?

Another vote for washing it and having a play about with it yourself, I never like mine just after its been cut, always got to faff about with it to make it the way I want Smile

I have thick hair which a hairdresser cut loads of layers into and made it hard to manage. What worked for me (while trying to grow out) was using a smoothing cream before drying my hair, made hair lie flatter.

Also make sure you use right technique with straighteners. Are you pulling them down hair and curving in towards your neck when you get to shortest layers? You could be getting flicky bits because you're going down the whole way in a straight line or even starting to pull the straightener out when you get to your shoulders. Also are you sectioning off and getting bottom layers to sit flat before you work on top layers?

Coumarin · 09/03/2015 14:25

It doesn't look in poor condition at all! The ends on the just washed pic look thin because it's due a trim and the hairdresser has, I suspect, 'thinned out' the ends. That might be the cause of the slight froofy-ness.

I have very thick hair that tended to go it's own way when the stylist out too many layers in including some as short as your length. I also thought I needed it thinning out so they'd do that dragging the scissors down the hair thing. Not a good idea on thick wavy hair.

I think for you, the best thing would be to grow it down so that it's heavier and the weight will pull those ends down. Then you can have a little bit of shaping around the front.

You've got really good hair, honestly. If you hate your new do, eat tons of protein, take some vitamins and lay off the straighteners as much as possible and it'll grow really quickly.

BatCrapCrazy · 09/03/2015 15:11

I'll post a pic later but she's thinned it out so much that the bottom is so thin. She's put loads of short layers in which I specifically said I don't want. I'm going to get it cut back into a slightly longer version of the pre hair growth pic and leave it to grow again. I'm so pissed off.

Just and idea. Can you post roughly where you are so that MNers nearby can recommend hairdressers?

I think having the bottom bit chopped is a good idea. It suits you more blunt at the bottom. Then you can let it grow. I'm going similar after a disastrous cut. I have thick, wavy hair and lots of it and the muppet took the layers far too short despite me making a point of telling him NOT TO.

BatCrapCrazy · 09/03/2015 17:37

I'm in bridgend in South wales. I can't do the no heat thing. Unfortunately I've inherited my dad's sticky out ears which I am so self conscious about so I have to wear it down everyday. DP has promised I can have the surgery to correct them but we have so much going on at the moment (new house, wedding) and I can't justify spending the 3 grand at the moment.

Hmmm your hair looks very similar to mine before I actually discovered I was curly !

It would never straighten properly, was frizzy and fly away.
It was a battle I lost most days !

All is not lost- dampen it ,apply some leave in conditioner and gently scrunch and dry with a diffuser.
Bet you are a wavy at least.Grin

myknickersknackersknockers · 09/03/2015 18:11

I have thick hair and find that any layers add volume. Your ends look over thinned and fluffy. I find that all one length is heavier and pulls it flatter and straighter. I'd have the ends cut again so the ends are thicker and blunter. I think it looks nice though.

bimbobaggins · 09/03/2015 18:13

Your hair in the first photo is beautiful. I would just get a fringe trim and a tiny bit off the edges.
