I've name changed as adding a photo.
After taking your advice I have been to see an orange lady, bought some nice makeup and actually know how to apply it (obviously not wearing it in the photo!).

I now need to sort out my hair. It is wild and I have lots of frizz from after having my DD. I need something that doesn't take too long day to day but that I could do something nice with when going out. The picture is what it is like when it is just left to dry after washing. I have an appointment on Tuesday so what do you suggest?

Also it is my birthday soon so thinking I could ask for a styling something - I have straighteners but maybe a BBH or something? I would love to have nicely styled hair but not really sure how to start or what would help.

Apologies for the terrible photo - I don't generally take selfies!

I had exactly the same probkem after having dc2. I had 2 under 2 and always had my hair in a pony tail because that's all I had time for. So I thought sod it. I had it all chopped really short and spikey. I now wash, put a bit of putty in and done. Less than 2 min and it always looks styled rather than I cant be bothered or have no time. Its done wonders for my daily routine and confidence.

DarylDixonsDarlin · 28/02/2015 13:41

It doesn't look awfully frizzy? Are the waves natural, is it natural colour? It looks fairly similar to how mine used to look before I gave myself a fringe, does it straighten when you blow dry it? Are you keen to keep the length, or open to shorter versions? Smile

TheOddity · 28/02/2015 13:41

How about this? I got it done last week and took a photo with me. You could totally pull it off, even if to begin wi the hair is a little shorter. You do need to get a fringe trimmed every couple of weeks but people have said it has taken ten years off me. I have an oval face like you. I have a curling tong to va-voom up the look on a night out. Fringes are really funky and versatile I think.

I keep chopping it shorter but it's so bushy it looks terrible - maybe I need to take the plunge and go really short - do you think it would suit me? I have been trying to grow it as I fancied trying to do different things with it so it didn't always look the same.

Oh and do you want waves, or are you looking to be sleeker? Just wondering what would happen to it if you added like a curl product after washing, scrunched and left it to dry? Mine would have been fairly wavy had I done that. But waves and sleek do not go together for me!

NeedToSortItOut · 28/02/2015 13:45

Yes it's all natural - waves and colour. I do like the picture. Maybe a fringe would be good. I've had side sweepy fringe things but not considered a thick fringe as spent years with a wonkily trimmed one as a kid Grin

Sorry I'm really slow replying today! Not worried about sleek but somewhat styled rather than the through a hedge backwards look that I tend to have.

I have used a curl product and it does go quite wavy but looks massive at this length - I think it might look better when it's a bit longer

NeedToSortItOut · 28/02/2015 13:50

Not sure if it straightens - I can't remember the last time I blow dried it!

Your hair would really respond well to a good tool kit of denman hairbrush, ghd straighteners and Parlux hairdrier - you dont need to style it every day. If you wash and condition it one morning then use a bulldog clip to separate the hair into 2 sections (you can obviously do it in more sections but that can be fussy) then dry each section with the nozzel pointing downwards to smooth those flyaway strands. When it's bone dry then you can straighten, again in the two sections. This will give you a great, smooth base for a few days. I usually go over my hair again with the straighteners the next day but that's because I get really kinky hair over night - which you'd never guess - I am complimented almost daily on how smooth and shiny my hair looks. Another important tip in my opinion is to wash out all shampoo and conditioner thoroughly because any residue can make your hair look dull and can coarsen the natural texture leading to fizz. This routine can become second nature really quickly if you have patience and it will do wonders for your hair's appearance. I wish you the best of luck with your hair journey!

NeedToSortItOut · 28/02/2015 14:05

Thanks Anerak - I have Ghd's already and a good hairdryer but don't make the time to use it as it always ended up looking the same as letting it dry on its own - I'll make the effort and try it as you describe.

What is a denman hairbrush?

TheOddity · 28/02/2015 14:14

This is a denman classic www.boots.com/en/Denman-Classic-D3-Styling-Brush_1347/ and I must say I have one because they seem to attract the static less than most. In terms of styling products, you can get this www.amazon.co.uk/Styling-Wella-Polished-Waves-200ml/dp/B005LO3AAM/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425132705&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=sp+wella+hyper+curl which works well for me. You basically just scrunch it, dry your hair with diffuser or leave to dry naturally and then when dry scrunch very sparingly with this stuff and it just makes mine look like messy defined curls rather than frizz. my hair has a wave to it, not a full curl but the product brings it out.

Anerak · 28/02/2015 14:21

Yes the very same as oddity linked to - it's a cult brush in the uk, I think it's the rubber back to the bristles that stops the frizz and occasional static of your hair. I never use product in my hair as I find this ruins the texture and natural shine of hair (especially over time). A tip against frizz if you don't have time to dry your hair is brush your hair after it's washed and smooth it (but not too tightly) into a pleat at the back of your head - and this will let your hair cuticles dry smooth and flat

Anerak · 28/02/2015 14:23

Also agree that a fringe would be lovely for you but you must brush the hair that's cut into the fringe when you get out of the shower, or as near to that time as possible, otherwise with your hair texture the fringe will kink and not lie straight

TheOddity · 28/02/2015 14:24

This is quite funky too but it depends on the level of curl in your hair if it will puff up or lie flat

NeedToSortItOut · 28/02/2015 14:26

Thanks for the links Oddity. I think the curl product is similar to what I have (it works the same way) I don't get curls but it does tame the frizz. It just looks huge around my face! atm

NeedToSortItOut · 28/02/2015 14:30

Oops it didn't post when I wrote it!
Will get a brush as anything that reduces frizz is good.
I like the blonde picture but don't think it would work on my hair - I have had it that length before as like the look of it but my hair just doesn't seem to look the same without a hairdresser doing it.

SpecificOcean · 28/02/2015 19:11

I would go for something like this.

I like your hair colour and length, I think it looks a bit thick at the bottom and looks thinner at the top. It sort of needs balancing.
I wouldn't go too short personally.

I hope it goes well on Tuesday-I'm sure you will look gorgeous whatever you go for.

I like that style thanks Ocean. Yes it is flat/thick but it could be partly due to my lack of styling ability!

NeedToSortItOut · 03/03/2015 15:01

Thanks for all the advice. I have bought a denman brush and been blow drying as anerak explained and that in itself has made a huge difference.
Had my haircut and tbh wasn't sure about it when she had finished but it's growing on me and DH says it looks good so here it is - now I just have to style it myself!

The hairstylist used a curling tong so I'm thinking of getting one for my birthday. Any recommendations?

Wow! So sleek. It's lovely and you look very happy :)

No curling tong help sorry.

You look smashing. That's taken years off (not meaning that to sound rude ..meant to be a compliment)

Yay! Was wondering how it went. It looks really cute! Nice length. Definitely get a curling wand to keep it like that or heated rollers are good if you are talentless like me

fizzycolagurlie · 04/03/2015 02:40

I like the photo Oddity posted but I think you'd look wonderful with a 1930's style bob - behind the ears, the curls would really show off well. (I may have been watching too much period drama on TV)

CoconutAmericano · 04/03/2015 08:21

You look beautiful. Your hair is so glossy!
