Calling all fashionistas to style this dress for DD's prom (edgy not gypsy wedding please!)

DD (16) has been stalking this Maje dress for her prom for months and has eventually found it, worn once for a fraction of the price.
She has asked me the experts of Mumsnet how to style it, she thinks the ankle boots maybe aren't right in June.
She's petite with very long curly brown hair.

Proms aren't "edgy".

That Maje dress is awful...

lottiesatitagain · 22/02/2015 16:23

Personally I think silver looks fab with bronze. I would go with silver shoes and an ear cuff. Great dress

cathyandclaire · 22/02/2015 16:24

Proms may not be edgy but Dd is.
I disagree about the dress, it's not foil as it may appear in the pics it's a gorgeous burnished copper.
Thanks for the helpful advice though :)

Sorry for the random link but I really like that bag!

Um I don't think it's relevant if we think the dress is awful. Not to my taste but if she likes it then she should wear it.
But she might find it hard to style it without looking er "brash" as my mother would say

cathyandclaire · 22/02/2015 16:28

Thanks Chilly and Lottie, the bag is pretty and the silver sounds good.
She had seen it like this, not brash IMO which maybe how she'd wear it in the future but not for prom

What about an open toe shoe boot?

Madamecastafiore · 22/02/2015 16:30

Heeled boots, biker jacket and a silver cuff.

It's nice to be edgy against all the spray tanned princesses.

libertychick · 22/02/2015 16:32

or embellished flat sandals?

MarshaBrady · 22/02/2015 16:33

Is it the same length on her?

Looks short, so I'd go for something that tones it down a bit.

Lj8893 · 22/02/2015 16:34

I think that bag would be lovely with it and then maybe some strappy heels in the shell pink colour of the bag?

cathyandclaire · 22/02/2015 16:36

Definitely not the same length on her, she's probably at least 6 inches shorter than the model, similar build though.

www.missguided.co.uk/catalog/product/view/_ignore_category/1/id/155475/ I'd probably go for shoes like this (I think there's a nicer pair on ASOS) but I'm quite boring...

MrsMinton · 22/02/2015 16:38

A chocker necklace with her hair up( if it's long)

What about light colour DMs? Baby pink?

AvonleaAnne · 22/02/2015 16:39

I think it would work well with matt black accessories.

A bit like this pin www.pinterest.com/pin/456974693413374635/

or with a cuff like this folksy.com/items/4026546-Winter-landscape-cuff

or this folksy.com/items/6540969-Forest-floor-cuff-bronze-print-from-an-original-linocut

cathyandclaire · 22/02/2015 16:45

Thanks so much for all the links, I think some sort of shoe-boot type thing may well work, she loves DMs but may be a step to far for prom.

I absolutely love the Folksy/Etsy jewellery links and the whole matt black accessory look. My hand is just itching to click and buy that cuff.

I agree silver sandals would look really nice. I actually like the heel boots with it on the picture! Why not a really pretty bag and some really floral jewellery like so
m.newlook.com/shop/womens/jewellery-and-hair-accessories/pink-floral-ring-pack-_332305870
And then some ankle boots and a tailored stiff bolero like this maybe not the colour though

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/02/2015 18:37

That's helpful, Bonsoir.

She's 16 and it's her prom, therefore she should wear whichever dress she wants.

Black shoe boots and a leather cuff could be good, or maybe pewter.

Datahub · 22/02/2015 18:39

i think dd should do her own styling tbh
NOt ask a group of mothers

Twinklestein · 22/02/2015 19:02

I'd either wear black tights and black heels/boots or nudes/bare legs with bronzy-goldy heels, I don't personally like bronze & silver together.

Something like that

Twinklestein · 22/02/2015 19:02

(But cheaper)

cathyandclaire · 22/02/2015 19:20

DD will definitely do her own thing, but she saw a S+B thread I left open and thought there were some great ideas and that she may get some inspiration...and she has, so thanks for all the help.
She loves the black a la AvonleaAnne's Pinterest post, black shoe boots or something very strappy and bronze. She'll play around. She's waifish, so she never really looks tarty or overdone and can get away with stuff that I wouldn't dream of.
Thanks anyway, I think if a few members of a 'group of mothers' hadn't hated her dress it would have made her rethink her choice! ;)

Does she want heels or flats btw?

TSSDNCOP · 22/02/2015 19:29

These would be so cool!. She'd need to do vairy well in her exams though Grin

Something like that though is what I'd aim for.

burnishedsilver · 22/02/2015 19:30

These?
