Well someone had to do it as my last post was number 999...

OP posts:

Sympathy to all poorly folk. We are still battling the coughy virus but went up to the fish market at Ouistreham this morning and bought lobster for dinner; we will have it with green salad, mayo and four chips each (low-carb maintenance mode).
Have been trying very hard to think of a bucket list but only thing I can think of is to sleep overnight on a train.

EmilyAlice · 11/03/2015 11:47

Can I recommend limoncello with roast duck? You rub ithe duck all over with a lemon, roast it, pour off the fat and deglaze the pan with limoncello. Add a bit of stock and pour over. Tis delicious.

bigTillyMint · 11/03/2015 11:49

Well done Stropps for ripping a strip off both of them! They need to woman-up FFS!

herbaceous · 11/03/2015 11:52

Am I the only crepey who doesn't like limoncello? Tastes to me like a janitorial requisite.

Still fuming for you, Stropps. But agree they need to learn through their own actions, and that you Must Not bail them out. They are both old enough to know better.

Stropperella · 11/03/2015 12:49

Yes, Herbs, exactly. Definitely old enough to know better. Still rolling my eyes and huffing to myself here. And you're not the only crepey who doesn't like limoncello (Grin @ "janitorial requisite") - I don't drink any liqueurs at all. They are all like cough mixture. Bleargh.

EA - 4 chips? Are they big chips? I couldn't cope with 4. 4 is not a good number for me. I could only have either 3 or 5. Dh is so unobservant that he lived with me for the best part of a decade without noticing I have a rule of 3. It was only once I told him about it that he started noticing and now he thinks it is very funny. Well, he may laugh, but as a control strategy when faced with a packet of biscuits or a box of chocolates, it works. He doesn't bother with control strategies, which is why he looks like a weeble.

bigTillyMint · 11/03/2015 12:56

I have only tasted it in a desert and very nice the desert was too!

I like the idea of a control strategy. 3 sounds like a good number, though I fear it may be 3 too many for me where food is concerned! But 4 chips?! I hope they aren't French Fries - not worth opening your mouth for!

EmilyAlice · 11/03/2015 13:00

Two small potatoes cut in half, rolled in oil and cooked in the oven with lots of salt. The potato could be cut into three I suppose?
Are you in East, West, North or South Dorset, Stropps? I used to drive all over it for ten years so know it quite well. My car once got sprayed with manure in Shitterton.
We lived in Bournemouth.

CointreauVersial · 11/03/2015 13:34

LOL at Shitterton. More soberly, I once ran over a cat in Catford. Sad

Strops - oh, I would be hopping mad. Hopping.Your DD isn't six years old; she should be more than capable of managing her own day out without you standing over her. If it were me, I'd be stepping back further, tbh.

I adore Limoncello, having developed a taste for it during our annual holidays to Lucca while the DCs were small, and I usually have a bottle in the freezer. In fact, I made a bottle last year, having won a litre of vodka in a raffle and not knowing what else to do with it. It is very sugary, though, so not really a low-carb staple, more's the pity.

motherinferior · 11/03/2015 13:36

Limoncello is also v nice when mixed with freshly-squeezed lemon to sharpen it a bit. Though the Naice Limoncello I bought in Soho is sadly superb on its own. I am wondering if the Cointreaualike from Aldi would also be improved with fresh orange juice.

Dogs nearly done. Eye interviews done. Cots nearly finished. Must. Keep. Going.

MollyAir · 11/03/2015 13:57

Oh, wait, do I look like a weeble because I don't have a rule of 3 or 5? Is this The Answer?

Stropperella · 11/03/2015 13:59

EA, I live quite close to Shitterton. :) So, West Dorset. I believe they have had to replace the village sign at Shitterton with a large heavy stone one, as people kept nicking the metal one. The village of Duntish, which is a bit north of where I live, also has terrible problems with its sign. People keep altering the first letter. :) Dorset has some fine place names.

Stropperella · 11/03/2015 14:00

lalsy · 11/03/2015 14:09

MI, what are you up to, mentioning Martinis at lunchtime?

Rule of 3 or 6? If you get past 4 or 6 is there anything to stop you finishing the packet? That question is probably why I look like a weeble too.

I am in a cafe waiting for DD'S phone to get fixed. I was a bit worried when I found the address was the repair man's house, but I hope this is not necessarily a bad thing?

bigTillyMint · 11/03/2015 14:17

Rudy, sympathies re DD and school.

My DD seems to be having a CA/ISA fest. She did one CA last Fri, has just text me to say she is doing half an ISA (redoing) tonight another CA tomorrow and one on Fri I think Shock She seems reasonably up for it Shock

EmilyAlice · 11/03/2015 14:17

I think it was Bill Bryson who said Dorset villages are named for Barbara Cartland heroes, so Bradford Peverill, Charlton Marshall etc.
I loved all the Piddle place names too.
It is a glorious county. I remember driving over to Kingston Maurward early on a summer morning, listening to Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs and being in such a state of euphoria when I arrived that I couldn't concentrate on the training day at all (may have even been the introduction of the National Curriculum). Grin

cremolafoam · 11/03/2015 14:26

Grin@ shitterton. Pity the folk that live there tho.
No for me also Limoncello =Jif
That is a result of it being offered after every single meal in Venice as a complimentary digestif. Well you have to choke it back, to look grateful dontcha.Blush

Lalsy, I understand about Dropbox now. I thought perhaps it was like a shared drive on a computer, where a number of designated people could access and edit. Not to worry.

Had the strange iced yogurt for breakfast. It is rather lovely for being so virtuous .Wink

Off for a bracing Ladywalk on this sunny windy and chilly afternoon.

lalsy · 11/03/2015 14:33

BTM, ds has had shedloads of coursework too (as I have mentioned, he is working his way backwards through examinations systems). Anyway, I remember with dd, the actual revision and GCSE bit seemed very calm and easy compared with keeping all those balls in the air in this half term.

Ah, I see Crem, yes could have done it like that but I didn't for dull pdfy-y reasons Smile. I am going to try some of the recipes over the Easter hols (ds has extremely conservative tastes and dh often gets unpleasantly mushy leftovers but living off pasta and cheerios means she may be more appreciative).

motherinferior · 11/03/2015 15:23

Ooh, in recipe news I am going to try making a spicy peanut sauce for noodles tonight. This may just possibly be a Fabulous Standby.

Rewritten the dogs. Must finish next one.

bigTillyMint · 11/03/2015 15:48

Lalsy, that is reassuring, thanks!

MI, I happened upon a cheats spicy peanut sauce when desperate one night - curry paste and peanut butterWink

Have got DD's phone back and the on/off button was working. Hope there's no hidden surprises!

Stropperella · 11/03/2015 15:50

EA, I live very close to Kingston Maurward. I have to say that I am not so fond of Bournemouth and am especially not fond of driving around it. Were you a teacher, then?

MI, I do like a spicy peanut sauce. Mmm. Wouldn't know how to make one, though.

I dread to think what is going on for dd with schoolwork at the moment. She says she doesn't want to talk to me about it. Which doesn't bode well.

Well, at least ds gets himself up and has now started making his own breakfast.

motherinferior · 11/03/2015 15:56

Rewritten dogs AGAIN. New client. Nuff said.

Back to buggies.

I have been fairly immobile at this desk (I did put a load of washing on) since 7.30 and I feel I've probably reached my limit fairly soon.

EmilyAlice · 11/03/2015 16:09

I waa a teacher Stropps, then an adviser and then an inspector.
No I don't miss Bournemouth one little bit. It was quite a good place to bring up the children though. It was still quite nice in the eighties but grew enormously after that and too much clubbing!
