Well someone had to do it as my last post was number 999...

That is an interesting idea Monty - must suggest it to DD! She did say she was going to stop thinking/moaning/stressing about the current issue at the end of Sunday (ie yesterday) so we will see...

Rosebag · 09/03/2015 15:02

Lalsy really hit the nail on the head. It's a small charity which is going through a lot change and updating of archaic practice. It under charges for its courses, definitely. But it needs to crank up the cost. I'm assuming she doesn't always sleep on floors, that some of her contacta have a spare room. I just want my own space and my own loo!!
Monty so wasted you're better. It's not to do with the play , no. Teaching but a different sort from the classes I run at home.
MI any strategy for managing anger is good. Let go of it when you can. Not always possible but improves with practice. Forgive them their ways as that will be us before long... In one at if another. Sadly all too frequently, I blow up at DH when my parents drive me to screamng
pitch. Poor bugger. Must try harder.

Am on board train to Warwickshire. On time. Looking forward to a really quiet evening in little village hotel with free wifi and will keep co-tutor at arms length til tomorrow. She is driving down to her wooden hostelry. Ya boo!
Ps I lost 3 lbs this week. Nine in total Smile

Rosebag · 09/03/2015 15:05

God the auto corrects having a field day.

motherinferior · 09/03/2015 15:36

Hmm, I am working very hard not to make such a complete pig's ear of my relationship with my daughters. I know I will drive them mad, but at least I haven't told them their 10-year-old stomachs "look pregnant" or made them wear my cast-offs.

I have another feature for which I need to pick your brains: not a parenting one, for once, but a 'bucket list' one of things to do over the summer. It's for a readership that starts at aged from 50 (eek) up to Really quite Old. It’s their 50th jubilee year so I’m doing a trivial 50-based piece. I’m listing stuff like watch the Perseid meteor shower, go to a food festival, give blood, view an ROH opera at an outdoor screening, but also things like bake a cake/go for a walk/learn to use a new bit of technology…

Any new suggestions grovelingly received!

hattymattie · 09/03/2015 15:58

MI - Shock at your mother.

I reckon the ROH outdoor screenings are for the young and over 50 I would be looking for a decent seat (which I cannot possibly afford) on the inside.

I would like - to visit a tropical paradise (Bounty advert stuff); stay in an Indian Palace; eat a three star Michelin meal (we are too stingy); walk the Yorkshire Dales with DH staying at lovely pubs an route.

No doubt more will come to me.

DD - not much better - I think she's got a nasty little virus. Just waiting for domino effect.

QueenQueenie · 09/03/2015 17:51

... swim in the sea, learn a new skill at a class, throw a party for 50 people, buy some ridiculous shoes...

bigTillyMint · 09/03/2015 19:13

I like your ideas Hatty, but not yours MollyGrin

I have a million places that I want to visit and I will be ticking one (New York) off in OctoberSmile Not sure what else ...

herbaceous · 09/03/2015 19:25

Drive across America, either in a convertible or a Winnebago. Knit a jumper.

CointreauVersial · 09/03/2015 22:10

MI, I can guarantee this one won't make your list.... when DSM was approaching 60 she decided the one thing she'd never done but wanted to, was.... smoke a joint. Shock She sweet-talked next-door-neighbour's layabout son into supplying her with said joint, waited until DDad was out, then sat at the end of the garden and fired it up. Grin Grin "Interesting, but wouldn't bother again," was the conclusion.

Auriga · 09/03/2015 22:50

I am horribly, disgustingly ill. Can anyone recommend something soothing to watch on Amazon or iPlayer? I like the West Wing, Sherlock, Wolf Hall. What do you think would work?

QueenQueenie · 09/03/2015 23:02

You poor thing Auriga. Hope you feel better soon.
How about House of Cards (BRILLIANT! and same political theme as WW), Damages, Better Call Saul...
Or a soothing documentary? Bill Cunningham New York, Advanced Style, anything by Andrew Kotting, Finding Vivian Maier...
Most should be on Netflix I think.

... on iplayer look at the 'Storyville' season on BBC 4

MollyAir · 09/03/2015 23:08

Thanks Auriga.

cremolafoam · 09/03/2015 23:28

Oh Auriga , so sorry you are poorly Thanks doesn't seem long since you were ill. Take care.
I too am enjoying House of Cards second season. We also love all those dark Scandinavian things like The Bridge and The Killing.

Day 22 on the 1500 calorie plan chez us. Still squeezing into the ToT but dh is disappearing ( Grrr) can't wait to get back in the pool after the op. Sigh

cremolafoam · 09/03/2015 23:40

Bucket list so far

Stay in a very very expensive , but not snooty Paris hotel that has The Perfect view ( Eiffel tour glittering, seine rippling, small pots of pink geraniums and jasmine scenting the breeze) , crisp linen sheets, Louis quinze furniture - blah blah

To find the most beautiful natural freshwater pool of turquoise water and dive right in.

To own a 1966 Vintage fiat 500

To learn to crochet ( I have a mental block)

To own a stone water mill and live there

lalsy · 10/03/2015 00:07

Auriga, Newsroom is another Aaron Sorkin that starts off a bit weak but gets better. We've also enjoyed Nashville for some light relief but more fun to watch with dc probably. Borgen is a Scandi political drama with some fab female characters but not good if you are feeling dozy as it is mostly people in suits talking to each other Smile. Mad Men. Life on Mars.

hattymattie · 10/03/2015 05:58

I would go for Mad Men or Downtown - I enough trouble with House of Cards when I'm fully attentive. Hope this morning finds you a little better Auriga. Thanks

Blackduck · 10/03/2015 06:55

Auriga :( - so sorry to hear...

Here still queasy, meanwhile dp is suffering the other end (own fault for not throwing up) and smells baaaaad (sorry TMI!).

I am trying to decide whether to say 'sod it' and get a flight somewhere for a couple of days over Easter.

bigTillyMint · 10/03/2015 06:56

Herbs, I'm with you in the Winnebago, and I can teach you to knit a jumper en route!

CV, LOL at your DSM! Did she watch the Jon Snow prog about weed? I felt so sorry for him.

We enjoyed Modern Family on Netflix when we were away last year, but that is probably way too non-intellectualBlush I quite fancy Mad Men, if only for the fashion, but we don't have Netflix/other and I never get to watch the TV anyway.

Auriga · 10/03/2015 07:13

Thanks everyone. HoC brilliant, but DH will divorce me if I watch it without him Grin Will try some of the other suggestions.

lalsy · 10/03/2015 07:24

BTM, I watch Netflix on my own on my laptop - great for family harmony, worth every penny.
