Well someone had to do it as my last post was number 999...

OP posts:

Thanks, Rose, and well done on the weight loss. I have lost a lb in 4 weeks so am feeling decidedly irritable. I had been so committed for 3 weeks and only went off piste for a week. Sad When I think of the hours I have spent in the gym and swimming pool. ...

Stropps, DH has an excellent exercise book called "Treat your own back". The only thing is that he finds that he has to keep up with the exercises and he is not very good at that.

Stropperella · 23/02/2015 15:59

Aww, NU, sorry to hear about the frustratingly slow weight loss. Thanks for the book recommendation.

And thank you, Auriga, for the reassurance. (btw, did you say you had stewed rhubarb with porridge yesterday? Did you feel in need of punishment at the time?? Grin.) It's just a shame to have to give up the circuits, because I've been doing it for three years, I go with my neighbour and it's a bit of a social thing for me. Also, it's very cheap. I do a lot of solitary dog-walking and work from home, so it was nice to have something that I didn't do by myself and was also affordable. I guess I'll just go back to only dog-walking. The fierce aspect of the exercise really helped with lifting my mood and controlling my temper. It also made me feel a little bit more powerful in my everyday life, which was something that I needed. So giving up the classes will leave quite a hole. I have been aware of the sciatica for quite some time, but I figured if I ignored it and scoffed the odd painkiller it would go away. It does go away (unlike poor Crem's), but only when I stop exercising. Boo. Still, as I mentioned before, I guess I must look upon this as a sign to move on to something different and maybe something affordable and a little bit social may turn up when I start looking.

Wonder how poor Dylan is doing :(

I have a health warning, crepeys.

Remember I was banging on about magnesium, and it being the solution to all manner of stuff, including my menstrual migraines? Well, I'd been wondering why I have been spending so much time in the khazi of late, and of course it's the magnesium! As in, Milk of Magnesia. As in, its laxative effects.

So, watch your dosage!

Thatisall.

bigTillyMint · 23/02/2015 16:33

Herbs, I was following your advice and swallowing mammoth magnesium pills. I haven't noticed any no.2 effects yet though!

My knees feel a lot better now I am home. My normal routine doesn't put nearly as much pressure on them as skiing!

I am going downhill cold-wise, having smugly assumed I was going to get away with just a light dose. Am chugging Lemsip and feeling sorry for myself.

Stropperella · 23/02/2015 18:29

I am also very full of cold, having just had the sniffles last week. Very sly germs - no likey. And also no likey the idea of tomorrow's 4.30 start.

I've been taking the magnesium horse pills since September with only positive effects, but there are lots of different forms of magnesium out there and some will just go straight through you. I believe magnesium citrate is one to avoid, but don't quote me on that. I take the Easy Absorption mg from Holland and Barrett. Various other mg sources, not citrate.

Stropperella · 23/02/2015 18:33

hmm no, I take back my ill-informed post about magnesium - it looks like too high a dose of any type will give you the squits. Halve your dose, Herbs? Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/02/2015 18:54

Rose, five months. I was living in Ramat Aviv Gimmel (there's posh!). Not on kibbutz. Proper, temporary job. Grin I did study Ivrit for about a year beforehand, at the Spiro Ark.

Beachy, how is your paw hound?

bigTillyMint · 23/02/2015 18:55

I have Natures Plan Magnesium 200mg. I or 2 per day. Surely that is safe or they wouldn't give it as the dosage?!

herbaceous · 23/02/2015 19:10

I had been taking magnesium citrate horse pills. BTM, from my sketchy research it seems that it's only what isn't absorbed that causes the squits. So if you're quite deficient, more will be absorbed. I must be not very deficient.

I can't halve the dose, as they're those horrible rough pills that if you cut in half are even more impossible to swallow. But they're Solgar, and thus vastly expensive. Anyone want to buy them? Grin

motherinferior · 23/02/2015 19:15

Herbs, you've made them sound irresistible Grin

bigTillyMint · 23/02/2015 19:22

Mine are horse-pill sized! I am not sure if they are having the desired effect or not so far.

What is the desired effect?

CointreauVersial · 23/02/2015 19:52

Have moved on to hot whisky. Still have a cold but don't care as much. Grin

beachyhead · 23/02/2015 20:03

Dylan's home, GrinGrinwith a Mondrian-esque square bald patch on one side. He wasn't eating there, so I went at visiting time (3pm) where he scoffed down whatever I gave him, so the nurse consulted the vet who confirmed he would be better off at home.

He leapt out of the car, did the territorial run around the garden, woofed up the next door dog and came in to flump....

He has four different medicines and the bill could have paid for much Crepey merriment. In fact dd1 said it could have paid for her whole Interrailing adventure planned for the summer. I'll get him insured next week!

I will go into work tomorrow having found it difficult to work here today as I'd left all my papers at the office. I am a 'paper and pencil girl' when marking up boring documents, I'm afraid.... I have briefed vet nurse dh, who will be on Dylan duty tomorrow Smile

MollyAir · 23/02/2015 20:28

Norty, norty, norty dog Dylan! Grin Glad he's feeling better!

Stropperella · 23/02/2015 20:30

Hooray, hooray that Dylan is home and will soon be up to more mischief. Grin
Have been staying up waiting for news... :)

Grin @ CV, but are you sure that won't leave you a tad .. regretful in the morning.

Auriga, hope your dh is back fighting fit very soon.

Herbs, well it's good to know that you're maybe not magnesium-deficient after all. Grin

Right, must finish making a worksheet and then it's off to bed.

Blackduck · 23/02/2015 20:41

Hooray that Dylan's home!

I have to go in tomorrow - I don't want to.....

I am also a 2 of 5:2 and the rest of the house are snaffling fish n chips...

CointreauVersial · 23/02/2015 21:19

Beachy - great news about Dylan - and get that insurance started! Something tells me that won't be the last scrape he gets into.

Auriga · 23/02/2015 22:02

Smile pleased to hear Dylan is home. He must be firmly attached to you already Beachy.

Funeral was huge but with tiny choir, so I was glad I could go but it was tough. And church was freezing.

Think I'm going down with what DH hasSad Hope not, too many non-cancellable things going on in the nt two weeks. Otherwise I'd join you in a whisky CV

EmilyAlice · 24/02/2015 06:45

Am going down with some kind of bug too. Always happens when I come to England..... OH is coming over today and we go back on Thursday so will take it back with me and spread it round France!
I also found Treat Your Own Back very useful when I had sciatica.

bigTillyMint · 24/02/2015 07:02

Sorry to hear so many Crepeys are sniffling. I am wondering if I am taking the right magnesium tablets as I felt completely wiped out last night. But there again, it was a very demanding day!

Glad Dylan's survived to furnish us with more stories of derring do and exasperated Beachy's!

motherinferior · 24/02/2015 09:04

Sorry about yesterday's self-pity. Today I have conducted bracing and calming Ladyjog, and am fairly well ahead with the project I am trying to get on with (though took on another feature yesterday, eek). DP was home early and cooked supper, before doing a three hour Skype conference about t'ai chi. Then he has t'ai chi tonight and guess what, one of the t'ai chi mad hippies gurus is over from the US tomorrow and hey, can you imagine what he's out doing? Such funGrin!

It doesn't actually matter in practical terms, but I do sometimes wonder if he is in fact what nice mental health practitioners like Auriga and QQ would call utterly off his trolley.

CointreauVersial · 24/02/2015 12:29

Keeps him off the streets, MI.

I phoned in sick today, as my office don't take too kindly to people sneezing and snotting everywhere. I am now cuddled up on the sofa with furry throw, box of tissues and a Lemsip and intend to watch trashy TV for the afternoon.

beachyhead · 24/02/2015 13:30

Very jealous of that CV Envy in this day and age of 'technology', I can't really have a sick day, just a working from home day. I would have to be unable to reach a keyboard in order to phone in sick (obviously not helped by the fact I work part time and the tutting would be heard for miles if I happened to fall sick on one of my working days!)

Do think he'll ever tire of TMATSNBN, MI? Although I'm quite jealous of those people with a passion, there is a limit. Have you ever tried it? Is it the slow one people do in parks in their 'pyjamas'?
