What clothes did they have you loved?

Was remembering miss crossland. She did story time with Maroon knee length boots on. How I loved those boots and her 70s Flicky up curled pageboy.

I suggested to my mum she had her hair like that. Mum was not impressed. Grin

Probably not stylish but my Y2 teacher had a lovely (to my child self, anyway) turquoise fluffy jumper with a sequinned number 7 on one of the shoulders. I remember being very pleased whenever she wore it, and I liked that it has a number 7 on as that was my age Smile.

*had

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/02/2015 07:50

Yes, in the late 70s. She did seem a bit old fashioned, her style was 60s formal, neat brightly coloured suits, court shoes, helmet hair, a bit like an air stewardess, she stood out next to the others who were far more casual, jumpers and loose skirts etc.

TeddyDreadful · 16/02/2015 07:51

My Yr2 teacher had crisp starched shirts and tailored trousers. She had an elegant cropped bob and eyeliner in three lines radiating from the corner of her eyes.

LynetteScavo · 16/02/2015 07:55

Oh yes, Mrs Bull - Also with knee high boots and flicked hair. She smelled of Givinchy. Sooo fashionable. Grin

LynetteScavo · 16/02/2015 07:56

Mrs bull has some very lovely brown A- line skirts.

SirChenjin · 16/02/2015 08:06

Oh yes. Miss Budge was from Australia (in a small Kent village in the 70s this was very exciting!) AND she had a yellow MGB GT. She wore high heeled boots and denim skirts, and she had long hair that she held off her face with sunglasses

We also had a group of 3 teachers who were also our neighbours - they were a little clique (not a particularly nice one, according to my mum), and they tripped off down the road dolled up to the nines, for school starting at 8.45 (way back in the 80s, no early starts for teachers then). They obviously tried to outdo each other in the fashion stakes Grin

Amazing the detail one can remember. We had an oz teacher too who was very naive and virginal. There were too stories as to why she was there one that she was too fair, the other that she was an ex nun

No, i cant say i remember. The teachers i do remember i always thought were far too old!!!!
I am a primary teacher and would like to think im stylish Wink

ggirl · 16/02/2015 18:14

My yr 5 teacher wore very smart suits..she stunk of fags though .

SpecificOcean · 16/02/2015 18:23

No none of them -they all dressed like Margaret Thatcher (late 70's) and one male teacher who wore tweed jackets with leather elbow patches.

IAmNotDarling · 16/02/2015 18:48

Oh yes, my favourite teacher wore Laura Ashley dresses and Ravel shoes. She was lovely and I owe my education to her.

DelphiniumBlue · 16/02/2015 18:51

The lovely Miss B, who had Anello & Davide character shoes in every conceivable colour! And usually tights to match.

OnlyLovers · 16/02/2015 18:59

I don't remember anyone stylish, but I had an art teacher with the obligatory deathtrap of an old Citroen 2CV. Which she used to drive us around in, packed in and rattling along.

Also a teacher with inches of foundation, blue eyeshadow and clouds of face powder. The word 'tidemark' was invented for her face. She was fab though.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 16/02/2015 19:33

God no. Mine were all ancient and dressed in horrible Laura Ashley floral dresses (late eighties to mid-nineties). I remember hideous navy or tan tights as well.

My primary teacher friend is v stylish, though.

Gunpowder · 16/02/2015 19:41

We had one (late 80s/early 90s) with an Annie Lennox crop, tartan wool minis, crisp white shirts, stilettos and red lipstick. She was terrifying! I remember all the school gate mothers discussing her in hushed tones. Grin

There were a couple of sweet ones who wore long floaty skirts and DMs, they must have been really young, in retrospect. The others were all mustard cardigans, pie crust collars and wrinkly tan tights. Grin

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 16/02/2015 19:43

Miss Lawson. Miniskirt, white plastic boots... 1968

bigTillyMint · 16/02/2015 19:49

No! There was one teacher who I remember wearing a 70's long dress with puffed sleeves at a party (DM also taught at my primary and was probably on of the least stylish there!)

I, however, was and still am Wink

BallroomWithNoBalls · 16/02/2015 19:50

Er no. Mid calf floral skirts, polyester blouses tucked in, that kind of thing. My Y5 teacher had a peach skirt suit that was too tight around her tummy and I asked her if she was pregnant and didn't believe her when she said no and kept going on about it Blush

The school secretary had amazing waist length white hair she always wore in a tight chignon though, I once saw it loose and it was breathtaking.

Datahub · 16/02/2015 21:05

when there WAS one, it was amazing

pinkfrocks · 16/02/2015 21:28

Golly- you lot are young! My primary school teachers go back to the early 60s! But they were all old and far from stylish.

Asleeponasunbeam · 16/02/2015 21:37

My very favourite teacher (the reason I am one myself) wore the most incredible brightly coloured clothes, and make up, in shades of cerise, royal blue and jade green.

JudgeyHotPants · 16/02/2015 22:22

Mine always seemed to wear long beige or floral skirts down to their ankles and blouses with a scarf. All of them worse a scarf. Lots of shoulder pads as well.

NoStrange · 16/02/2015 22:24

I had a teacher that had a collection different, brightly coloured Mary Jane shoes that she matched to her outfit. She had red ones, purple ones, turquoise ones and wore matching scarves and sometimes lipstick. We all thought she was so glam Grin. Early eighties. Ha.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 16/02/2015 22:35

Ye gods, I went to ps in the late 60s. In Australia. When I want everyone to have a good laugh I show them pictures of the long shorts, knee length socks, short sleeved shirts and ties mine wore.(they were blokes btw)
But we had Mrs Moe, who taught us sewing (and how to be a bitch etiquette) who was terrifyingly groomed. Think a tiny dame Edna.
