Ok: I've shaved my face. Am I bonkers?

Saw this in the Mail this week (I know, I know...) and couldn't resist. I did it with a bic and some shaving gel. Apart from cutting the top off a zit I'm in one piece.....and my face is like a baby's bum today.

Anyone else done this?

Shock what about all the stubble

ginmakesitallok · 11/02/2015 13:20

No. You are bonkers.

Northumberlandlass · 11/02/2015 13:24

You are bonkers. It might grow in stubbly!
Did you have a very hairy face ? Mine is covered in downy hair, quite fluffy - wouldn't dream of shaving it though. I do pluck out the long black /spiky white hairs!

DeanKoontz · 11/02/2015 13:24

Why?

PureMorning · 11/02/2015 13:25

and a few hours after shaving Dp has a shadow. You will get that

LulaPalooza · 11/02/2015 13:33

There was an artilce on this in Stylist this morning (free mag handed out at Tube stations. Don't know if it is available outside London?). The article talked about ordinary shaving but also a treatment called dermaplaning which basically sounds like posh shaving. V thin scalpel used to re-surface the skin also obvs takes hairs with it.

I have [sob] facial hair, both fluffy stuff and a verying crop of black spiky buggers which I tweeze. I have been tempted to shave but I fear battles with re-growth.

IMHO you are a little bit bonkers to shave with an ordinary razor because surely it will grow back quickly and stubbly?

The Stylist article recommended:

  1. Lillibeth Facial Hair Removers (£11.50) which looks like a spenny eyebrow razor;
  1. Philips Precision Perfect Trimmer for face, which is a ladies electric shaver thingy and a bargainous £20. I am considering purchasing this
  1. Braun Face 810 Epilator and Cleansing Brush - also considering this but it is £60 and if it doesn't work I will cry. the reviews on Amazon are mixed.
NormHonal · 11/02/2015 13:36

Hmm.

Am considering this as I've finally taken the plunge and bought a Lumea, which I adore, but you have to shave the hair down first. I'm contemplating how to tackle this with my facial hair. Might look at the Philips trimmer thingy.

MsBojangles · 11/02/2015 13:38

I've been shaving my peach fluff every few weeks (especially in the summer) for years, it hasn't grown back thicker or stronger, the ends are blunter that's all.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 11/02/2015 13:40

Bonkers and I read the same article

I have enough to shave without worrying about my face. I have the blonde fine fluff on my face.

LulaPalooza · 11/02/2015 13:43

I went back to Amazon and the Braun thing is available for £49.69

Tempted...

mowglik · 11/02/2015 13:47

Yes they do this in Japan - apparently it keeps wrinkles at bay too

I do it on my tache with a normal bic razor when I can't be bothered to wax and it's fine, regrowth looks the same as if I'd waxed it

HoneyIsBeePoo · 11/02/2015 13:49

My friend did it at school and spent the next few weeks with

a) razor burn
b) Desperate Dan-esque stubble

peaz · 11/02/2015 13:50

I used to do this. I was teased endlessly at school as I had half-side burns. So I shave them. And I had to do it every, single day. It didn't stop the teasing, as they had something else to tease me about.
Then I met DH and he was lovely about it (I hadn't told anyone what I did. Just denied it when asked/teased and kept my hair over the stubble) and I had a course of IPL done. It's grown back since but it's softer and lighter and I am fine with it. I do have more hair on my cheeks (I sound like a werewolf but I'm not- its light and I am probably the only one who notices!) so I just use sensitive immac on it. No pain, its cheap and it lasts about 3 weeks.

whats the difference then? sounds like 'Lady Specific' marketing to me

(Like pink sapphires, which are really just pale rubies)

OFrabjousDay · 11/02/2015 13:58

Yes you are bonkers. And if in 15 years time my daughters are under social pressure to shave their faces because 'everyone does it' I am holding you and all the other idiots who do what newspapers tell them to do personally responsible.

Britbird · 11/02/2015 14:03

Is it not now considered normal for women to have fluffy faces then? I honestly never think anything of it on other people, and had hoped that no one would think anything about the light hair I have on my face :(

Miggsie · 11/02/2015 14:07

Sounds like they have run out of men to sell shaving stuff to so are trying to convince women it's a vital thing for them too...shameless marketing of useless stuff no one considered before

OFrabjousDay · 11/02/2015 14:08

Britbird, I promise you noone has ever noticed the light downy hair on your face.

Women didn't shave their armpits until an advert by a razor manufacturer told them to.

StaircaseAtTheUniversity · 11/02/2015 14:11

I shave the sides of my nose where the skin is scaly and gets dry from the wind as a kind of exfoliation. It's the only thing that works. It's not hairy though, just rough, so not sure about re growth etc.

BathtimeFunkster · 11/02/2015 14:12

The light downy hair on some women's faces is very noticeable.

I'm considering doing this.

Shaving vellus hairs isn't going to give you stubble like a man.

ArcheryAnnie · 11/02/2015 14:16

Yes, bonkers.

Where the hell does it stop?

BathtimeFunkster · 11/02/2015 14:19

Where does the hair stop? Confused

OFrabjousDay · 11/02/2015 14:19

Ok, I'll rephrase.

Britbird, I promise you, anyone who noticed your light downy hair on face almost certainly wasn't offended by it, and anyone who was offended by it was a twat, and can confidently be discounted from your list of people whose opinions you should care about.

MatildaTheCat · 11/02/2015 14:21

OP, I had some chin hairs which I shaved off in the shower every single day. This year I vowed no more. I've started electrolysis which has been fantastically successful and not much more expensive than all the gadgets being mentioned here. I'm going back for 15 minute appointments every 2 weeks to catch the persistent re growers.Grin

I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. If the hair is dark you can have laser treatment and that hurts less so options! Smile

BathtimeFunkster · 11/02/2015 14:22

Caring about your appearance isn't done because you imagine people will be offended if you don't.

Really fluffy face hair is noticeable.

Some women prefer to take steps to remove that hair.

Telling them that they have to put up with a hairy face or they will grow a man beard is quite twatty.
