Ok: I've shaved my face. Am I bonkers?

Saw this in the Mail this week (I know, I know...) and couldn't resist. I did it with a bic and some shaving gel. Apart from cutting the top off a zit I'm in one piece.....and my face is like a baby's bum today.

Anyone else done this?

Bonkers, sorry.

Are we all destined to be completely hair-free in years to come? Arms next too? I can barely be arsed with my legs most of the time

Redglitter · 11/02/2015 14:24

Unfortunately for some people with things like PCOS it's a necessary evil

NorksAreMessy · 11/02/2015 14:25

This GENIUS springy thingy is about 99p and is utterly brilliant at removing facial hair.
It takes a little while to get the hang of it, but I will never use cremes (angry rash) or wax (pimply rash) or tweezers (takes forever) again!

But Britbird previously thought nothing of the hairs on her face. It was only this thread that has given her the idea that other people might have a problem with it. My comments were addressed to her, and only sought to reassure her that noone cares about the hair on her face.

I was not telling anyone to put up with a hairy face if they don't like it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/02/2015 14:28

I read that article too. I think men age better because they have more collagen than us?.

They age better on bits they don't shave as well don't they?.

Britbird · 11/02/2015 14:31

Thanks OFrabjousday. you're right, I had never given my facial hair (light, fluff) a second thought. I've seen it on other women. Have always thought it was normal and don't think anything of it so didn't realise people would remove it. I understand why people with dark or coarse hair would.

BathtimeFunkster · 11/02/2015 14:34

I can barely be arsed with my legs either.

But I don't want to become one of those middle aged women covered in quite dense fluffy hair on their cheeks and sides.

I'm keeping an eye on it, because it seems a possibility at this stage.

Picastyle · 11/02/2015 14:40

Ah, that explains why Caroline Hirons wrote about shaving recently. She does it and has done for years so no doubt the rest of us sheep will follow...

ChablisChic · 11/02/2015 14:41

I once read that the reason men who shaved ages better was because all those facial contortions they go through each day to keep the skin taught while they shave strengthen the facial muscles, guarding against sagging. Makes sense when you think about it. Perhaps we should just pretend to shave every day .....

ChablisChic · 11/02/2015 14:41

Taut, not taught . Doh.

BathtimeFunkster · 11/02/2015 14:53

Genius! Grin

Whst does the lillibeth and philips things mentioned do? Surely they are razors for, um shaving?
I have very noticable downy chin hair, since a hysterectomy, as well as a few black hairs . I will run a razor under my chin a couple of times a week.
I don't like the hair so I get rid of it.

CarbeDiem · 11/02/2015 16:06

I read this yesterday while thinking WTF? are the women doing it crazy??
I hate hate HATE my facial hair. I've plucked, waxed, threaded and burned the bastard immac'd it off for years, I've even got that threader spring thingy Norks. The odd emergency time I've shaved my tache too.

I know it's impossible to affect the root by shaving and that theoretically the hair shouldn't grow back any different but mine has/does. The more I remove it the darker/thicker it becomes - the amount stays the same, it's still the same hairs coming back, only worse.
All my other hair where I don't shave is the same as it's always been - light and fine so it's not just that my hair got darker as I got older.
If it's not meant to be made worse - then why is mine? I give up trying to work it out.

squoosh · 11/02/2015 16:13

I like my fluffy face. Face fluff works well in photos, can give a diffused look.

Jackieharris · 11/02/2015 16:25

I first tried this years ago.

I just thought I'd give it a go, like an extra special exfoliation. My skin did feel very smooth after. Only took off downy hair so no regrowth problems. I've do e it a couple of times since-never mentioned it to anyone. Don't think it's a big deal.

As I've got a bit older I do now have those 'bad' thick black hairs- one on my chin which comes through every few weeks- that gets the tweezers.

The few on my upper lip get a tweeze if I can take it but more often I just shave it.

OFrabjousDay · 11/02/2015 16:26

Yes squoosh - your own personal soft focus :)

Crazyzowhat · 11/02/2015 16:51

I use an eyebrow trimmer / razor after reading on a beauty blog bout 2.00ish for disposable pack of 3 from amazon no stubble or dark regrowth x

ChablisChic · 11/02/2015 16:51

"Yes squoosh - your own personal soft focus"

..especially before you've put your specs on. Ah, the joys of old age.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 11/02/2015 18:11

I read the Guardian not the Mail and think you're bonkers. The argument in the article I've linked is that the exfoliating benefits of shaving are good for men, but women already exfoliate a lot so this is just overkill. Plus stubble just isn't a good look.

I have facial hair, and I actually used to get my face threaded (hurt like a mofo) but now for the past nearly 7 yrs I actually get my face waxed I got every 2/3 weeks, only because I'm too lazy to even pluck my eyebrows, and plus threading gives it a much nicer shape. I've noticed with waxing my hair is slightly lighter (being asian god knows why) and slightly finer and it's the best thing ever, ladies waxing is the way!

Heifer · 11/02/2015 18:44

No don't do it!!!!
I stupidly did this years ago and now have to do it daily! If I am going out in the evening I need to do it again! tache not such a problem but I have awful stubly shadow under my chin. Worse thing I have ever done...

angelpip · 11/02/2015 18:50

I have idiopathic hirsutism, it's terrible and is so much worse after the birth of my child a few years ago, the Dr. has put it down to my Mediterranean roots. I have plucked for years and this has left my face scared, tried lazer, but I am the wrong colour so didn't work, electrolysis at 40 mins to 1 hr sessions get expensive. Shaving is sadly an option on days that I haven't put in my hour of plucking and scaring my face the night before.

n33c33 · 11/02/2015 18:58

I've had thick dark hairs growing from either side of my chin after giving birth and hormones 'settling down'. Had tO shave them every morning and had a 'shadow' by the end of the day! I would be so embarrassed in work if I had forgotten to shave that morning and it knocked my confidence. I started keeping a spare razor in my handbag just in case! Its OK to say that you would never shave but I think you would reconsider if you were in a similar predicament?
I've gotten an ILP course of treatment on Groupon and I'm amazed at the results! Its been the beat £49 I've ever spent and I've still got three sessions left. Its no where near as painful as electrolysis or waxing and would recommend it to anyone who feels they need to remove unwanted hair x
